Bug#1064407: Please add a symbols file

2024-02-21 Thread Raul Tambre

Source: libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0
Version: 1.22.10-1
Severity: wishlist

Any packages using libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0 end up with a >=
dependency on the version they are built with. This makes upgrades and
recovering broken installations harder that necessary due to the
unnecessarily high version dependency.

Please add a symbols to help with this.
I've attached the one from my downstream, though I build a rather
limited set of functionality.

And for a little further background... I package GStreamer, including
the bad plugins, myself for a downstream Debian variant.
libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0 after upstream rebuilds ends up depending on the
latest libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0. Our downstream packages override
any from the Debian upstrean. If the repository is updated in such a
state `apt dist-upgrade` ends up removing users' Gnome due to an
unsatisfied dependency on libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0.
The fix has been to be more on top with GStreamer upgrades and improve
testing, but having a symbols file in Debian seems like a good idea anyway.libgstadaptivedemux-1.0.so.0 libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0 #MINVER#

Bug#1057448: libc++experimental.a symlink should be in libc++-17-dev

2023-12-05 Thread Raul Tambre

Package: libc++abi-17-dev
Version: 1:17.0.6-1
Severity: minor

The package ships the symlink
/usr/lib/${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH}/libc++experimental.a, which should be in
the libc++-17-dev package as the libc++abi project has no relation to
libc++'s experimental standard library feature implementations.

* Package name: u-root-cpu
  Version : 0.0
  Upstream Contact: Ron Minnich
* URL : https://github.com/u-root/cpu
* License : BSD-3-clause
  Programming Lang: Go
Description : cpu command in Go, inspired by the Plan 9 cpu command

The cpu command lets you log in from a local system to a remote system and see
some or all of the files (how much is up to you) from the local system.

This is wonderfully convenient for embedded systems programmers. Because some or
all the files can come from your local machine, including binaries, the only
thing you need installed on the remote machine is the cpu daemon itself.

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
upgrading to steam-installer, under KDE Plasma, clicking on the Steam
iceon results in error "Launching Steam (Failed). You are not authorised to
execute this file"
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
-clicking on Steam in the Plasma menu gives the error. Steam does not
launch
-running "steam" from console works fine
-once running from console you can pin the icon to the plasma taskbar.
If you quit Steam anc click on the pinned icon you get the same error as above
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Steam to run as always clicking the icon

I'm packaging this software (first time I try to package and upload a
piece of software). I already packaged the base library (libgawkextlib). Then I
was going to file an ITP request and found this RFP. I was going to package
each library into a different package. But maybe it is better to package all
libraries
in a single package plus -dev and -tools counterparts (gawk-xml builds xmlgawk
binary).
Or two packages, the base lib which provides extension infrastructure and
another
package for the rest of currently available libraries.

Bug#1003042: Why aren't non-SDK releases packaged?

2022-01-03 Thread Raul Tambre

Source: vulkan-validationlayers
Version: 1.2.189.0-1.1
Severity: wishlist

It seems that debian/watch only tracks tags starting with "sdk-" and
intermediate releases aren't packaged.

Are there any reasons besides time and manpower? Would there be a way to assist?

Lack of timely releases in downstream distros such as Debian is a pain point I
brought up in the LunarG Vulkan 2021 ecosystem survey. My impression was that
this was due to lack of official releases/tags for intermediate versions, but
they have got back to me and pointed out that that is not the case. And indeed I
cannot see any difference between SDK and non-SDK tags besides the SDK ones
having an official binary release from LunarG.

Bug#995122: LLVM change

2021-10-05 Thread Raul Tambre
On Tue, 5 Oct 2021 15:25:30 +0200 Andreas Beckmann
wrote> Would a symlink /usr/lib/cuda/include/cuda.h -> /usr/include/cuda.h

work, too?

Yes. I tested to be sure.

Bug#995122: LLVM change

2021-10-02 Thread Raul Tambre
An upstream Clang change () has been merged to
make symlinking /usr/lib/cuda/include to /usr/include work.

The shim header approach would still have the benefit of being smaller and thus
Clang being able to parse the version from it faster.

Bug#995122: cuda.h shim

2021-09-27 Thread Raul Tambre
Simply symlinking doesn't actually quite work as evidenced by my CMake CI bot
(), where I applied it manually.

Having a shim /usr/lib/cuda/include/cuda.h:

#pragma push_macro("CUDA_VERSION")
#define CUDA_VERSION 11030
#pragma pop_macro("CUDA_VERSION")
#include_next

Solves the issue. This was suggested in the LLVM discussion
().

It is unclear to me why the symlink variant didn't work as previously when Clang
detected the version using version.h having the cuda.h simply in /usr/include
and thus the default search path was fine.
Though Clang is noted to be sensitive to the ordering of CUDA and other includes
due to it wrapping/shimming them to make them work with Clang.

Bug#995122: Clang and /usr/lib/cuda

2021-09-26 Thread Raul Tambre

Package: nvidia-cuda-toolkit
Version: 11.3.1-4
Severity: important

Dear maintainer,

Clang recently changed its CUDA version discovery to use cuda.h since
version.txt is no more. See the LLVM commit
.

It is read from /include/cuda.h.
/usr/lib/cuda is used as a special case by Clang on Debian/Ubuntu and also by
CMake
.

On my installations /usr/lib/cuda/include is an empty directory. The CUDA
version detection fails, Clang falls back to the latest version it knows (11.4)
and ptxas fails to assemble due to PTX assembly being for a newer version.

Could we symlink /usr/lib/cuda/include to /usr/include?

A solution before Clang 14 makes it into the repository seems desirable.
Ideally this would also be backported as a fix so users wishing to use a newer
self-built Clang on older versions could do so.

Discussion in the TensorFlow issues linked in bug #985798 indicate that they
are/were moving towards assuming a similar layout as Clang (/usr/lib/cuda). It
seems likely the breakage would also extend to that and be fixed by the proposed
symlink.

Subject: [PATCH] dpkg-gensymbols: Remove useless version script node symbols

Given a version script "test.sym":

   LIBTEST_1
   {
   };

clang -shared /dev/null -o example.so -Wl,--version-script=test.sym -fuse-ld=ld
llvm-nm -D example.so:

    A LIBTEST_1@@LIBTEST_1
w _ITM_deregisterTMCloneTable
w _ITM_registerTMCloneTable
w __cxa_finalize
w __gmon_start__

LLVM lld intentionally doesn't generate the LIBTEST_1@@LIBTEST_1.
It's a nullptr SHN_ABS symbol thus completely useless in practice.

Detecting these in symbol_is_internal() isn't sufficient as there're existing
symbol files with these symbols.

As such I've:
* Added Dpkg::Shlibs::Symbol::get_internal() to classify such symbols.
* Added with_internal option Dpkg::Shlibs::SymbolFile to allow omitting these
  symbols.
* Changed dpkg-gensymbols to keep such symbols for before, but not after. This
allows graceful removal of these from existing symbol files.

Bug#992796: dpkg-gensymbols should ignore version script tag symbols

2021-08-23 Thread Raul Tambre
Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.20.9
Severity: normal

GNU ld generates a nullptr absolute symbol for each version script tag.
test.sym:

LIBTEST_1
{
};

clang -shared /dev/null -o example.so -Wl,--version-script=test.sym -fuse-ld=ld
llvm-nm -D example.so:

 A LIBTEST_1@@LIBTEST_1
 w _ITM_deregisterTMCloneTable
 w _ITM_registerTMCloneTable
 w __cxa_finalize
 w __gmon_start__

LLVM's LLD (i.e. -fuse-ld=lld) does not.
Many existing packages' symbols files however expect such symbols (e.g.
systemd).
This makes building them cleanly with LLD not possible.

Rather than considering this a bug in LLD I think it would be more reasonable to
fix this in dpkg because they're simply noise.

1. They are nullpointers and thus don't have any actual underlying
implementation.
2. If they disappear, the whole section will have been deleted, so certainly
other
symbols will have also gone missing.

I tried reading the binutils code for half an hour to understand where in the
code
and why they're being generated, but had no luck.

Maintainers, does this seem reasonable?
I would be willing to contribute a patch.

Bug#989175: Version patch doesn't work with coloured Maven output

2021-05-27 Thread Raul Tambre
Package: ruby-maven-libs
Version: 3.3.9+ds-1.1
Severity: important

My "mvn --version" outputs the version text bold using ASCII escape sequences
(\e[1m).
The 02-do-not-hard-code-maven-version.patch patch in ruby-maven-libs fails to
parse this, i.e. ruby -e "require 'maven'" fails with:

Traceback (most recent call last):

3: from
/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/rubygems/core_ext/kernel_require.rb:85:in `require'

/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/maven.rb:12:in `': undefined method
`split' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError)

This is because the regex asserts the match at the beginning of the line, but
the string is actually "\e[1mApache Maven 3.6.3\e[m".
Things that work to fix this:
1. Remove the assert for the beginning of the line (the ^)
2. Simplify to `#{mvn_cmd_path} --version`.split("\n")[0].split[2].freeze

Bug#988973: CMAKE_FIND_PACKAGE_NO_PACKAGE_REGISTRY is deprecated

2021-05-22 Thread Raul Tambre

debhelper uses CMAKE_FIND_PACKAGE_NO_PACKAGE_REGISTRY, which since CMake 3.16

They're functionally equivalent, but the logic is switched, i.e. debhelper's

-DCMAKE_FIND_USE_PACKAGE_REGISTRY=OFF.

While creating a custom deb package for an internal CA I noticed that the

* It doesn't explicitly qualify the trigger as await

Lintian overrides for installing into /usr/local/share might also be

Bug#977255: Compat 14 incorrectly sets BUILD_RPATH_USE_ORIGIN for CMake

2020-12-13 Thread Raul Tambre
Package: debhelper
Version: 13.2.1+nmu1~cleveron1
Severity: important

Compat 14 passes -DBUILD_RPATH_USE_ORIGIN=ON to CMake.
This however has no effect, as BUILD_RPATH_USE_ORIGIN is a target property and
setting
a global variable by that name has no effect.
The target property is initialized by the global variable
CMAKE_BUILD_RPATH_USE_ORIGIN,
so debhelper should set that instead for the desired behaviour.

Marking as important as this should be fixed before compat 14 is finalized.

Bug#969962: Please make nvidia-cuda-dev multi-arch installable

2020-09-09 Thread Raul Tambre
Package: nvidia-cuda-toolkit

Severity: wishlist

Dear maintainer,

I'd like to crosscompile CUDA from amd64 to arm64 and have tried to install
nvidia-cuda-toolkit:amd64 and nvidia-cuda-dev:arm64.

Unfortunately nvidia-cuda-dev and its dependency libnvidia-ml-dev aren't
marked as Multi-Arch: same, preventing installing them at the same time and
making crosscompiling impossible.
At a first glance I don't see any reason that both of them couldn't be
marked as Multi-Arch:same.

Is there a reason for this or can this be improved?
Thanks in advance!

I noticed this starting 2020-06-08 on all Debian Unstable machines I
admin. Only notable thing done on the machines has been `apt update &&
apt upgrade`. Presumably this issue is caused in combination with an
update of another package.

I've re-compiled facter 3.11.0 myself from source and was unable to
replicate the issue this way.

Maybe a recompile would be sufficient to fix this crash?

I'd be happy to do further testing, as this prevents Puppet from running
on any of the Debian Unstable machines I'm an admin of.

Bug#927885: stretch: apt-get mysteriously fails

I tried to install a package which is documented to exist and that install

So apt seems to have know about this package, and as near as I can tell has no
reason to claim that the package does not exist.

I guess there should be some sort debugging or verbose progress option here,
for apt-get to report on whatever the issue is, here, which prevents it from
seeing and installing this package. (Or at least a more informative error
message than "no installation candidate"...)

Or, if the package matching logic is really that complex, that it's normal for
it to fail this way, then that needs more user visibility (tracing tools, or
whatever)?

Bug#733979: apache a2dismod cgi fails with mpm-worker and mod-fastcgi installed

2014-01-02 Thread Raul Dias
Package: apache2.2-common
Version: 2.2.22-13

By default debian will have both mod_cgi and mod_cgid enabled.
When trying to disabling mod_cgi, we get:

# a2dismod cgi
Your MPM seems to be threaded. Selecting cgid instead of cgi.

This will keed mod_cgi enabled in
/etc/apache2/mods-enabled/cgi.load

Which is bad, because many debian php applications like phpldapadmin have
checks for mod_cgi, mod_cgid and not modfastcgi.
e.g from /etc/apache2/conf.d/phpldapadmin:
  IfModule mod_cgi.c
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Action application/x-httpd-php /cgi-bin/php5
  /IfModule
  IfModule mod_cgid.c
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Action application/x-httpd-php /cgi-bin/php5
   /IfModule

This breaks mod_fastcgi.

I understand the care of using mod_cgid instead of mod_cgi for mpm-worker.

However this care should be used only on enabling modules not disabling
them.

It is like:
ME: Apache, disable module cgid, I dont need it.
APACHE: Ok, Disable.
ME: Apache, disable module cgi, I dont need that either.
APACHE: No, cgid is more suitable for your setup. I will disable that
one instead.
ME: I really need cgi module off.
APACHE: No, you dont know what you need. I will do what _I_ want.

I don't think (but I might be wrong) that there is a scenario where you
have both mod_fastcgi and mod_cgi[d] together.
If there is these configurations should take that into consideration too
(phpmyadmin and others probably suffers the same problem).

I believe that a similar situation could happen with mpm-worker even
without fastcgi.

Bug#704453: moreutils/sponge fails silently if the destination file cannot be written

2013-04-01 Thread Raul Salinas-Monteagudo
Package: moreutils
Version: 0.47
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I have found what seems to be a bug in sponge, which does not propagate the
write error when writing to its output file, failing silently.

   * What led up to the situation?

$ echo  | sponge /dev/full  echo OK
OK

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

   * What was the outcome of this action?

It could not obviously write to /dev/full, but returned EXIT_SUCESS.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

I would expect it to return a non-zero return value and a message.

   * Debug details

$ echo | strace sponge /dev/full
[...]
open(/dev/full, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0666) = 4
lseek(3, 0, SEEK_SET) = 0
read(3, \n, 8192) = 1
fstat(4, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0666, st_rdev=makedev(1, 7), ...}) = 0
ioctl(4, SNDCTL_TMR_TIMEBASE or TCGETS, 0x7fff7e925e80) = -1 ENOTTY
(Inappropriate ioctl for device)
mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) =
0x7f8e389b8000
read(3, , 8192) = 0
close(3)= 0
munmap(0x7f8e389b9000, 4096)= 0
write(4, \n, 1) = -1 ENOSPC (No space left on device)
close(4)= 0
munmap(0x7f8e389b8000, 4096)= 0
rt_sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, [HUP INT QUIT PIPE ALRM TERM XCPU XFSZ VTALRM PROF
IO], [], 8) = 0
unlink(/tmp/sponge.wsOZkV)= 0
rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, [], NULL, 8) = 0
exit_group(0) = ?
[...]

As you can see, the write() fails but the error is not propagated.

I think this issue is potentially (although remotely probably) serious since
sponge lends itself to be used to automatically edit files, but it will thrash
them if the concerning filesystem happens to become full during the editing.

Thank you.

Raúl Salinas

Bug#622971: Fixed!

2012-03-14 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
Linux-Image-3.2.9-1 does not freeze AND the atheros card works!!

I noticed that it sometimes (very rarely) goes off line but recovers itself in
a couple seconds unlike before that it needed modprobe -r ath9k, modprobe
ath9k to come up again.

I have been testing for about 3 days with no issues,

THANKS!

Sorry to report, but after several weeks of usage, it still happens, in the
two systems where I have this wireless card.

If there is anything I can do to help figure out what the issue is (other than
check the code!), let me know.

Bug#622971: 2.6.38-5 behaviour

2011-05-19 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
After using it for some days, the issue seems to still be there but manifests
itself in a different way.

Before 38-5 when the disconnection happened, the only way to get it back was
to modprobe -r ath9k, modprobe ath9k and try to reconect, which usually but
not always worked.

With 38-5 the drop of connectivity seems to happen less often (still several
times a day) and it seems to recover itself most times, with no modprobe -r
required.

dmesg shows this:

Subject: ath9k_hw: partially revert fix dma descriptor rx error bit
 parsing

 From: Felix Fietkau n...@openwrt.org

 commit 115dad7a7f42e68840392767323ceb9306dbdb36 upstream.

The rx error bit parsing was changed to consider PHY errors and various
decryption errors separately. While correct according to the documentation,
this is causing spurious decryption error reports in some situations.

Fix this by restoring the original order of the checks in those places,
where the errors are meant to be mutually exclusive.

If a CRC error is reported, then MIC failure and decryption errors
are irrelevant, and a PHY error is unlikely.

Bug#622971: ath9k: Ath9K wireless quite unreliable since upgrade to 2.6.38

2011-04-16 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.38-3
Severity: important
File: ath9k

ath9k disconects quite often (around 10 times a day) since upgrading the kernel
to 2.6.38-2.

Workaround is to modprob -r ath9k and then modprob ath9k.

I am happy to test and collect more info, just tell me what to do.

Cheers,

Marcos

Bug#622971: China?

2011-04-16 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
Does this line:

128408.330298] cfg80211: Calling CRDA for country: CN

mean that it is trying to set the country to China? I am in Australia, and as
far as I can tell the locale of my system is properly set.

Bug#621734: More info

2011-04-15 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
My setup is dualhead with 2 different monitors.

I noticed that dis separation of the K menu only hapens in one monitor. If I
drag the task bar to the other monitor, the K menu renders in the correct
spot.

By the way, I sent to this bug the screenshot as attachment but it seems that
the system droped that email?

Cheers,

Marcos

2011-04-15 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
Just to add that this is a dualhead setup, and because the monitors are
different sizes, the mouse cursor apears in the monitor that does not contain
the login screen.

Hovering the mouse on top of the login screen is enough to re gain focus to
type the password.

Bug#621734: kde-window-manager: K menu is separated from the taksbar by a space

2011-04-08 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
Package: kde-window-manager
Version: 4:4.4.5-8
Severity: minor

There is a separation from the menu that apears when you clik K and the taskbar.

This happens sometimes, and in the past it has dissapared itself and now has
appeared again.

Sometimes applying another theme solves it, but not this time.

This is a new blank profile .kde profile in my home directory.

I'try to attach a screenshot.

Cheers,

Marcos

Bug#587252: I have 4.4.5 but have this problem

2010-11-23 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
I have updated to 4.4.5 some time ago.

All has been fine in 4.4.4 and 4.4.5 until around 2 weeks ago, where this issue
appeared.

I keep my squeeze system updated almost daily.

I tried creating a new user, just to see if it is something on my user's
config, but the new clean user had the same issues.

If there is any log or data I can provide let me know.

Cheers,

I am not expert but the issue was found while I was chatting in the irc chanel

I do not recall the names, sorry, but they were very helpful and asked me to

I will try to make some time this weekend to try again, I saw a couple days

I'll report back then.

2010-04-16 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
Package: live-magic
Version: 1.10
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

live-magic sends disabled to live-helper to disable an option, but this was
used by live-helper 1.x. Live-helper 2.x uses false instead.

This causes live-magic to fail building the image.

Bug#541691: Ayuda

2009-09-16 Thread Marcos Raul Carot Collins
Buenas Ana.

Yo no tengo ninguna experiencia en mantenimiento de paquetes, pero si alguien
sin experiencia como yo, con ayuda de gente que sabe puede proponerse como
mantenedor, aquí me tienes.

Soy usuario de Debian desde Sarge y mi máquina principal es squeeze, KDE. Me
considero un usuario intermedio de Linux, con bastante conocimiento en algunas
áreas y muy escaso en otras.

Me gustaría ayudar y aprender.

Bug#482349: One more thing

About a year or so ago, when Lenny was testing, this was also happening, and
if you dual-booted into windows AND enabled there the wireless AND hard
shutted it down (as in pressing the power button more than 4 secs), then the
wireless would work in linux after booting into it.

I have tried to do that again now, but this trick does not work anymore.
Basically, I have no wireless anymore in Debian.

Does it still respond to the network? Can you log on the system

It is not possible to switch to text console with control-alt-F1, or F2

I don't use this computer as any server so I didn't try it. As
commented, as it doesn't occur so often it was not so easy to get even
that debug output. Next time it happens I assure you I try at least to
ping it.

To try to accurate the reason I switched the debug mode from gdm and
will paste its output here on an occurence of the given error.

Such an issue is most likely caused by a bug in either the kernel or the
X server. First of all, which X driver are you using?
If you mean the video driver, I am actually using the libgl1-mesa-dri.
But hoping it would stop by not using it I removed it, though the
problem persisted.

 Cheers,

OK, thanks. Beware that pinging can still work when the machine is
crashed, so it would be nice if you could try to SSH on it.

It doesn't respond to the network. Neither ping nor ssh.
I installed a ssh-server before and tested it, it was working fine. After
the freeze, no response anymore.

Before that I tried to connect a external monitor, since it seemed that the
monitor has been turned off, also no luck.

I mean the X driver, not the GL library. It is the Driver line
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. If there is no such line, please show the model
of your graphics card (lspci | grep VGA).

No specified driver for video:

Bug#243961: Found a solution.

2008-09-11 Thread Raul Sanchez Siles

Hello:

I think I've found the solution.

I found that setting http_proxy environment variable like this:
export http_proxy=http://ms-domain\\domainuser:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:8080

made wget works from the debian-installer console.

After this I, when I was asked about the debian mirror, I told the installer
that the proxy was:

http://ms-domain\domainuser:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:8080

mind that in this case only one backslash was used, not two like in the
console. I guess this is because you don't need to escape the backslash from
installer.

I'll try to include this information in the wiki somewhere.

Regards,

Raúl

Package: hal
Version: 0.5.10-4
Severity: normal

I sometimes use USB flash sticks to move data from place to place. This time I
had used it

Later on,I plugged the flash usb stick again into my system and I discovered

didn't come
up.

After looking into dmes I saw hal had crashed. I'm attaching an excerpt of the

I can think of no reason [constitutional or otherwise] why you should not be

When conversations go nowhere, it's often because people are
not understanding what the other is saying.

In this case, I see one rather obvious issue (there may be others):

Steve Langasek has said, in essence

When A says X, and we have no evidence to the contrary,
we believe A.

Your objection, in essence seems to be

We should not believe X when we have no evidence that X
is true.

It seems to me that both of these statements are reasonable,
and that neither refutes the other.

This could turn into a standards of evidence discussion, but it
currently does not taste like that.

Bug#381162: cipe is getting stale

2006-08-02 Thread Raul Miller

Package: wnpp

There's a bug more than a year old about a new upstream
version available for cipe, with no discussion from the maintainer
as to why this new version has not been incorporated. The
package should probably be orphaned, so that someone who
is more interested can maintain the package:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=264114

Also note that the last change to this package was in 2004,
and that there is a 4 year old important bug which has been
filed against the package, which has not been addressed
by the current maintainer, except to list it in a set of
confirmed reports.

Bug#367709: requesting libstdc++ .udeb in order to produce c++ based images based on d-i technology (but not d-i).

2006-05-17 Thread Raul Miller

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Ideally, I'd like to see three things:

(1) A concise description of the technical conflict that needs to be resolved.

(2) Good background material for understanding any subtle issues
underlying the conflict.

(3) A concise, specific and unambiguous proposal for dealing with the conflict.

It looks to me as if you've put quite a lot of effort into (2).
However, I'm not at all certain I know what obstacle you are running
into, and I've some uncertainties about what you are proposing.

Have you talked to the di people about this issue? Have they raised
any objections? If so, what are they? (We should get involved if you
feel that they are making a choice which is technically incorrect and
which you can't resolve directly.)

Thanks,

Perhaps the following item could be added to your draft (renumbering the

In general, your proposal looks good.

(BTW, have people read Bastian's patches in

they are a very encouraging development, if you look them over you'll see

 an issue of time management...)

Yes.
