Attached a screenshot about the proxy settings that is automaticaly set when I press CTRL + 2 on Iceweasel. Looks like you failed to install and configure privoxy or polipo or something that is an http proxy. You don't stricly need an http proxy, but your config asks for one. Either change the config or set up a proxy. I tried reinstall polipo, but torbutton don't work (as I said before). If I remove polipo and install privoxy, torbutton works, but my IP is still the same (I think that it need be another). You need to configure privoxy and/or polipo correctly after installing it. Please consult the documentation or ask for help on the tor-users mailinglist. See here (a lot of peoples with this problem): https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/631368 man polipo says: ...make sure that Polipo is running, and point your favourite web browser at http://localhost:8123 ... But, when you enable tor (CTRL+2) the proxy setting forward the proxy to port 8118. When you go to /etc/polipo/config to try change the default port, you can't find this option! This is a bug, because when you enable torbutton it set the port to 8118 instead 8123. Regards, Renato S. What you think? Here's a question to everybody here: does the load cycle count increase quickly *while you're on AC*? - When I run in AC, Load_Cycle_Count never increase. - When I run in battery, Load_Cycle_Count increase at least 1 time per minute. No more than 2 times per minute. The theory is that nobody works on battery 24 hrs/day, and that HD power management actually has benefits while working on battery. We've calculated that with this solution, even with very mobile usage patterns your drive should live for years. If the load cycle count increases while you're on AC, then the solution is broken. Yes, when I'm running in AC, Load_Cycle_Count don't increase in my laptop. Messias, and in your laptop? And... Messias can hear this sound when Load_Cycle_Count increase: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=8777action=view This can be a different bug? If the load cycle count increases only on battery, then it works as designed.) You think that is a good idea change hdparm -B from 254 to 255 in my case (/etc/acpi/battery.d/90-hdparm.sh)? Because when I run as 254, I get: setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254) And when I run as 255, I get: setting Advanced Power Management level to disabled Best regards, Renato -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#509820: bc use only 1 CPU core in multi-core machines
Package: bc Version: 1.06.94-3 Severity: normal If you have a multi-core CPU (as Intel Core2 Duo) and use bc to calculate something, only 1 core is used. Try this: $ echo scale=5000; 4*a(1) | bc -l This function will calculate Pi (3.14159...) with 5000 decimal precision. In my machine is necessary 38sec to finish. In meantime, use top (and press '1') to see CPU usage. You will see that CPU0 go to ~99% and CPU1 go to ~1%. I think that if *all* cores is used, time decrease to a half! Best regards, Renato S. Bug#501996: [VBA Support] Poor compatibility
Noel Power wrote: Hi Renato Hi Noel! Is good to know that you see my problem :-) Sorry to hear that you document doesn't run with our VBA support. The VBA api is vast, we haven't replicated every piece of VBA functionality or every API object. I hate VBA, but this kind of code is used in a lot of companies. This sample file attached in Debian Bug Report #501996 is a great example (I received it from a big client): http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=501996 Your document contains nearly 1000 lines of macro code, so it would be great if you could identify the smallest segments that don't work and relay that information to us ( or me if you like ) as small stand alone macros to demonstrate the problems. And other problem: This macro is not made by me, but I need use it :-( Some instructions are in Instructions sheet and maybe can be useful. Knowing where the failures are will influence what we set about to fix next. Additionally it might be possible to rewrite a non functioning macro so it will work in openoffice and MSO, but to give such advice one also needs to know where things are failing Are you interested in helping? *Of course* I would like to help :-) btw I followed the steps in the bug you fwded to the list, it appears that part of the problem here is that Calc itself doesn't support named ranges at the sheet level, named ranges have a global scope in openoffice, this leads to some inconsistency in the imported data ( and hence errors in the vba attempting to use those ranges ) I did change the named range Tooling_Operation_Description on sheet e-1810_A to Tooling_Operation_Description_New ( and changed the macro code to use that too ) and the steps you describe now seem to work ( but perhaps other things don't ) I go to Tools -- Macro -- Manager Macros -- OOo Basic and click in Edit. I changed all Tooling_Operation_Description to Tooling_Operation_Description_New (only 2 is found and replaced). But I give this error: Type: com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException Message: . Macro Basic is opened and show me this line error: Set TOP = Worksheets(e-1810_A).Range(Tooling_Operation_Description_New) Best regards, Renato -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. That's your error. b43 and b43legacy use different firmwares - and the package DOES get firmware for b43, too. If I remove symlink, Kernel show a message that firmware is NOT FOUND. b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the latest firmware (version 4) This is what we do, if you actually read he whole page and compare it to what we get you'd have seen that we get the firmware written there. But put in wrong place. Kernel try load firmware from b43 directory and not from b43legacy. OK, I go to linuxwireless.org, but is still impossible use my wireless device. b43-fwcutter != b43 fwiw, b43-fwcuttter is simply the tool to extract the firmware, the driver itself is in the kernel. When you install b43-fwcutter, you is asked if you want download firmware. If you accept, you can't use it, because Kernel (or something like this) try load it from b43 directory. If you move firmwares from b43legacy to b43 directory, you receive a error message TOO OLD FIRMWARE. Anyone have some idea about what is happening? No. This ia a non-bug and a user error (see above wrt the symlink) in any case. User error? Wooowww. - If I install b43-fwcutter in standard way, I can't use it (firmware not found) - If I install b43-fwcutter and move firmwares to b43 directory, I receive a message that firmware is TOO OLD. - If I remove b43-fwcutter, all firmwares and install mannualy from linuxwireless.org, driver and firmwares are loaded perfectly, but I can't connect in wireless network. Bug#495726: A lot of installation problems with Lenovo Thinkpad T61
6) HD-AUDIO-INTEL don't work very well in my laptop. My audio card is recognized but I can't get any audio output. I run alsaconf, try use model=thinkpad in hd-audio-intel, but no way. I check in Kmix that Speakers is disabled (why this is default?) and only IEC958 Default PCM is enabled. So... Just enable Speakers to get sound :-) Others problems is still presented as commented in my first email (#495726). Lenovo Technical Support sent me a .reg file that is used in Windows Vista to recognize slash/question key correctly (and not as CTRL). Bug#495726: installation-report: A lot of installation problems with Lenovo Thinkpad T61
Package: installation-reports Version: 2.35 Severity: important Hi, 1) HDAPS don't work! /usr/share/doc/hdapsd/README.Debian says: ...hdapsd needs the hdaps kernel module and the hdaps_protect patch in the kernel so it WON'T work out-of-the-box on a Debian machine yet... I really don't understand why Debian Kernel Team don't make available this patch compiled in Debian Kernel. Patch to 2.6.25 can be found in: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.hdaps.devel/1245/raw 2) Kernel source is incomplete! If you try compile Debian Kernel (/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.25-2-686) you get this: $ make xconfig /bin/sh: /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.25-2-686/scripts/gcc-x86_64-has-stack-protector.sh: File or directory not found. /bin/sh: /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.25-2-686/scripts/gcc-x86_64-has-stack-protector.sh: File or directory not found. scripts/Makefile.build:41: /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.25-2-686/scripts/basic/Makefile: File or directory not found. make[1]: *** No rules to process the target. `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.25-2-686/scripts/basic/Makefile'. Stop. make: ** [scripts_basic] Error 2 So, is impossible: - Compile Debian Kernel (from debian sources), to apply patchs, and nvidia driver (e.g.) Is missing some files in /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.25-2-686/block too. So, is impossible apply HDAPS patch as commented in topic 01 (above). Maybe this is useful: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=494435 3) Nv driver have a very poor performance! My NVidia Quadro NVS 140M is a very good graphic card, but I see a poor performance in Lenny. If I maximize/minimize a window, CPU Usage go to 100% and window is renderized very slowly. glxgears show me a pathetic ~175 FPS. I can't compile NVidia Driver (non-free), because Debian Kernel is broked as commented in topic 02 (above). I need get a new kernel from www.kernel.org to compile Nvidia Driver. With nvidia driver I get 3700 FPS (+2100% compared with nv driver) and no problem to rendering windows. 4) Is necessary change XkbModel in xorg.conf: Section InputDevice Identifier Keyboard0 Driver kbd Option XkbModel thinkpad60 Option XkbLayout br Option XkbVariant abnt2 EndSection With this, multimedia keys is recognized very well, but slash/question key is recognized as Control_R event. With PC104 or other XkbModel I have the same problem. Is necesary change /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/br-abnt2.kmap.gz adding this: keycode 97 = slash question degree With this, Is possible use slash/question/degree very well, but *only* in terminal/console... Not in X. Xmodmap may be a solution, but it's not working as you can see in: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=492919 5) Tapping/Scrolling over touchpad don't work! Is necessary change this (in xorg.conf): Section InputDevice Identifier Mouse0 Driver mouse Option Protocol auto Option Device /dev/psaux Option Emulate3Buttons no Option ZAxisMapping 4 5 EndSection To this: Section InputDevice Identifier Mouse0 Driver synaptics Option SendCoreEvents true Option Device /dev/psaux Option Protocol auto-dev Option HorizEdgeScroll 0 EndSection gsynaptics is a good tip too! 6) HD-AUDIO-INTEL don't work very well in my laptop. My audio card is recognized but I can't get any audio output. I run alsaconf, try use model=thinkpad in hd-audio-intel, but no way. Someone have a tip to me? 7) I install openoffice.org (2.4.1), openoffice.og-kde and openoffice.org-gtk. I go to Tools menu (in OOo) -- Options -- OpenOffice.org -- Memory, and check Load quickstarter in system tray. But I never see any quickstarter in system tray, and OOo still is slow to be loaded (~12 seconds). I have 2Gib RAM and a Intel Core2Duo (2.2GHz), so I really would like to load a quickstarter to OOo. 8) After installation, I need go to kcontrol and force DPI fonts to 96. Otherwise, fonts is very huge (not *so* huge, but with anormal size). This fix font size *after* kdm. Is necessary use this option (-dpi 96) below to fix font size in KDM too: /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc ServerArgsLocal=-dpi 96 -nolisten tcp If I remember anything more, I will report again in this bug. Bug#424911: [WORKARROUND] kpowersave: brightness always 100% at startup
Some brightness values available in kpowersave is not readable by hardware. Example: - My LCD panel (Laptop Toshiba M45-S355) recognize only this values in kpowersave: 13% 25% 38% 50% 63% 75% 88% If I choose different brightness values, my LCD panel is automaticaly changed to 100%. So, is necessary roll brightness slide bar (in kpowersave) and check when brightness is changed. Use this values to set default brightness in power schemes. AND, check if /home/$USER/.kde/share/config/kpowersaverc have the same value as choosed in kpowersave GUI. The same problem is found in laptop Lenovo 3000-V200.
