Bug#451962: Linux-2.6

2007-12-07 Thread Rod Lovett

Linux-2.6
Latest big Lenny upgrade and still no printer Samsung ML 2010.
Seems to see and install it but message below.
So difficult to fix in Lenny---about to give up totally on this release!
Jobviewer gives the following messages and refuses to prit its jobs as
regards the printer as disconnected, which is of course wrong wrong wrong!

Bug#451962: Linux-2.6

2007-12-07 Thread Rod Lovett

Many Thanx Max
I did as you said below and installed unstable 2.6.23-1-486 #1 Wed Dec 5
01:20:38 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
and now le voila perfect printing with Samsung ML 2010, with all the
same software.

So I reckon it is a kernel bug as the Linux 2.6.22 image on x86 refuses
to print if I boot with this, and Lenny badly needs to get this kernel
upate for all those other Samsung ML 2010's out there.
I'll post this on the forum too, it seems like a kernel problem, or some
quirky software ineraction with kernel modules.

Regards
Rod

from the log that you gave, i see no kernel error.
if you still assume a kernel error try 2.6.23-1 linux images from unstable
installst just fine in testing.

otherwise i'd say this report need to get eyes from cups expert,
not kernel team..

best regards

Linux-2.6
Hi again,
Still no printing
This is the print output with Samsung ML-2010, despite the printer being
on and ready, and printing OK on 2.6.18 on the same Lenny 32 bit machine.
The printer was invisible as user and became visible as root, but was
still non functional.

Lenny is not shaping up to be my production system with this printer.

Bug#451962: Debian:2.6

2007-11-25 Thread Rod Lovett

Debian:2.6
No further ahead with this bug, and its a wonder any bug reports arrive
with the arcane package designation.

No printing with Samsung ML-2010 with kernel 2.6.22.2-486 in Lenny
either. Only 2.6.18-4-486 #1 Mon Mar 26 16:39:10 UTC 2007 i686 works ,
all later Debian Lenny kernels do not.
Kubuntu 2.6.22 later Gutsy kernels work fine too, fixed in ubuntu but
not debian.
What is wrong with the later Debian kernels and this fine printer?
Best

package: linux-2.6

Lenny Printing bug with Samsung ML-2010 with Kernel 2.6.21-2-486 #1 Wed
Jul 11 03:17:09 UTC 2007 i686 and kernel 2.6.22.2 all printing jobs
stay in Kjobviewer
Printing works with older kernel 2.6.18-4-486 #, though no cardreader
usb mounting on usb plugin Mon Mar 26 16:39:10 UTC

2007 i686

The same printer works fine in Debian etch, also works fine in Sidux Gaia.
Same behavior in Kubuntu gutsy tribe5, which must have used snapshots of
Lenny packages, hence same errors. Now OK in Gutsy with 2.6.22 kernel.

Using a specific ppd does not help either.

Oh an old HP deskjet 895Cxi prints OK, with newer Lenny kernels, so
this seems a problem is in later Debian kernels, and Samsung ML2010
Laser specific

whatever it is.

Hi,
this Samsung ML-2010 [EMAIL PROTECTED] laser did at first work in Lenny, until apt-get
dist-upgrade in mid august 2007. The printer was visible, and put the
job in kjobviewer and gave an error message trying to shift the job to
the Samsung.

Now Lenny cannot even see this usb printer to install it after an
apt-get dist-upgrade today.(29/8/07)

The same printer works fine in Debian etch, also works fine in Sidux Gaia.
Same behavior in Kubuntu gutsy tribe5, which must use snapshots of Lenny
packages, hence same errors.
Using a specific ppd does not help either, when you could install the
printer that was.

Oh an old HP deskjet 895Cxi prints OK, but with a long latency now, so
this problem is Samsung Laser specific whatever it is.

I joined the mailing list and got 2 answers very quickly stating there
was a Kaffeine problem in Debian.
I thought that Kaffeine, interfering with a printer was a bit on the far
side.
However removing Kaffeine, allowed my Samsung ML-2010 to be seen again
in KDE print.
It refused to print still, putting the job in Kjobviewer, and only
printed on rebooting, a behaviour I had noted before.

/The true problem, I believe resides in kernel 2.6.21-2, as everything
goes fine with printing, Kaffeine present and all with the older kernel
2.6.18-4-486 #1 Mon Mar 26 16:39:10 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux.
So there is a *bug in the kernels after 2.6.18-4-486 #1* with regard to
the Samsung ML-2010 and I hope it can be fixed.

Regards
Rod Lovett
