Bug#1031041: firefox-esr: Please add PDF to supported MimeTypes
Package: firefox-esr Version: 102.7.0esr-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch In contrast to the default PDF applications (Evince, Okular, ...) recent versions of Firefox are able to handle PDF with XFA forms. Bug#965953: live-build: [PATCH] container hooks
Package: live-build Version: 1:20191221 Severity: normal Tags: patch The department I work for creates live systems for many different schools and universities. There is so much software that is needed by these organizations but is not available in the Debian repositories, that we needed to integrate flatpak support, enable flatpak and install flatpak applications during build time. Unfortunately, this is impossible with custom hooks in the current version of live-build, because flatpak doesn't work in simple chroot environments. I therefore created the attached patch to live-build that adds support for "container hooks". These hooks are executed in a simple container created via systemd-nspawn (from the systemd-container package). We built literally hundreds of different life systems including flatpaks in the last months and everything works as expected. So this patch is somewhat "battle tested". See here: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemctl.html (search for Environment Commands). > SESSION_MANAGER is definitely set here: > > printenv |grep SESSION_MANAGER > SESSION_MANAGER=local/scapa:@/tmp/.ICE-unix/32176,unix/scapa:/tmp/.ICE- > unix/32176 > > (32176 is the pid of the currently running xfce4-session process). Yes, the variable is set in the standard user environment, but (as I said above) not in the systemd manager environment block which is persistent across logins. Regards Ronny
Bug#935194: xfce4-session: Xfce session fails to start when previously logged into GNOME
> I have no idea why SESSION_MANAGER is already set when you start Xfce > the second time, but it looks like a bug in either gdm or gnome. As I said, the variable SESSION_MANAGER will be set when you log into GNOME (or GNOMEish desktop environments like Cinnamon or MATE). The variable is added to the systemd manager environment block. You can verify this by calling systemctl --user show-environment | grep SESSION_MANAGER The systemd manager environment block is persistent across subsequent logins (not reboots), even when using different desktop environments. This is implemented in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/95dbus_update-activation-env As I said, I am not very familiar with all the details around the SESSION_MANAGER variable, but it seems like it is only set by GNOMEish desktop environments. Even Xfce itself doesn't set the variable. It only checks the variable and fails to start if it is set, which is happening here. > Just ignoring the fact that a manager might be running doesn't look sound. > Can you get in touch with gnome and gdm people about this? OK, adding pkg-gnome-maintain...@alioth-lists.debian.net to CC. Regards Ronny
Bug#935194: xfce4-session: Xfce session fails to start when previously logged into GNOME
Package: xfce4-session Version: 4.12.1-6 Severity: normal Tags: patch When you log into GNOME (or Cinnamon or MATE) the environment variable SESSION_MANAGER will be set. If you then log out and try logging into Xfce it will fail. You will simply be catapulted back to the gmd login screen. The following error message will appear in the system journal (the PID may vary of course): /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[5992]: xfce4-session: Another session manager is already running This is implemented here: https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team/desktop/xfce4-session/blob/debian/master/xfce4-session/main.c#L96 I am not very familiar with all the details concerning this variable but the attached patch is a workaround that unsets the variable SESSION_MANAGER in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/55xfce4-session. This way it is possible to first log into GNOME, log out and then log into Xfce. Bug#927426: libreoffice-common: data loss because AutoRecovery information is stored in /tmp
Package: libreoffice-common Version: 1:6.1.5-3 Severity: normal LibreOffice saves its AutoRecovery information in its "Temporary files" path which is in Debian per default "/tmp". Bug#923046: flatpak segfaults in live-build hook
Package: flatpak Version: 1.2.3-1~bpo9+1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, We are providing schools with customized Debian Live images. Usually they are a combination of Debian stable and some selected backports (LibreOffice, Linux kernel, ...). Now we have some schools that really want to use the current versions of GIMP and Kdenlive. Both packages are not up to date in stretch-backports, but are available as flatpaks on flathub, see: https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.gimp.GIMP https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.kde.kdenlive Now that flatpak 1.2.3 has arrived in stretch-backports, I wanted to integrate the GIMP and Kdenlive flatpak packages in our Debian Live builds. Unfortunately, calling flatpak in a live-build hook fails with some dbus and polkit error messages and then flatpak segfaults. Here is an example that just tries to add the flathub repo: cat config/hooks/live/add_flathub.chroot #!/bin/sh flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo After adding this hook live-build fails with the following error messages: --- P: Begin executing hooks... Bug#884460: gtkhash: every second start the list of hash functions is empty
Package: gtkhash Version: 1.1-1~bpo9+1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I created a local backport of gtkhash 1.1 for Debian 9 (so that we also have caja-gtkhash). Every second start, the list of hash functions in gtkhash is empty. When this happens, I see the following value/key pair in dconf: hash-functions=@as [] ... instead of the usual one: hash-functions=['MD5', 'SHA1', 'SHA256', 'CRC32'] This makes the whole package very difficult to use for our users (teachers and students) who expect a software package to work everytime. Bug#877776: live-boot: fixed read-only mode with overlayfs
> Ok, shouldn't the same fix be done here too then (for the opt_link case)? > https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/debian-live/live-boot.git/tree/components/9990-misc-helpers.sh#n1594 > Uhm, sorry, I really don't know. I am completely unfamiliar with the opt_link option... Cheers Ronny
Bug#877776: live-boot: fixed read-only mode with overlayfs
Hi all > Can you be a bit more verbose in your explanation? OK, I try: live-boot in Debian 9 uses overlayfs per default instead of aufs in Debian 8. One difference between aufs and overlayfs is that aufs can operate directly on the file system root but overlayfs needs certain subdirectories (rw and work) on the file system root. Here is a quote from https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/filesystems/overlayfs.txt: The "workdir" needs to be an empty directory on the same filesystem as upperdir. This fact was partly taken care of in live-boot in the script 9990-misc-helpers.sh, see here: https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/debian-live/live-boot.git/tree/components/9990-misc-helpers.sh#n1335 The important part here is the postfix "/rw" in the option "upperdir=${unionrw}/rw" Unfortunately, these subtleties of overlayfs were not taken into account when using it as a lower layer (when you add the boot option "persistence-read-only"). This is what my patch fixes. > How can we reproduce the problem? Create a Debian Live system with a persistence partition, use it first in normal "read-write" mode and change some files and settings. Then reboot and use the boot option "persistence-read-only". You will see that non of your previous changes are visible because the persistence partition got mounted the wrong way (without the "/rw" postfix). > Why is your patch fixing the issue? Because it correctly mounts the persistence partition in the overlayfs case including the necessary "/rw" postfix. Cheers Ronny

Bug#827669: minetest-mod-mobf: packaging buggy/incomplete
Package: minetest-mod-mobf Version: 2.5.0-1 Severity: important Tags: patch The minetest-mod-mobf binary package contains lots of xcf and blend files and even the directory /usr/share/games/minetest/mods/mobf/debian/. Bug#814534: clamtk-gnome installs a redundant desktop file
Package: clamtk-gnome Version: 5.20-1 Severity: minor clamtk-gnome installs the desktop file /usr/share/applications/clamtk-gnome.desktop. This file is identical to /usr/share/applications/clamtk.desktop which is already installed by the package clamtk which is a dependency of clamtk-gnome. The redundant desktop file doesn't seem to serve any purpose and just creates a double entry in the desktops application menus which is irritating to users. It looks like the clamtk-gnome.desktop file can just be removed without any bad side effect.

Bug#794198: toppler: missing sources of binary file toppler.dat
The file toppler.dat is actually an archive, like a tarball. It is not compiled code. Thanks for the info, good to know. I just didn't know how to unarchive the toppler.dat file. Is there any? http://toppler.sourceforge.net/repos/datafile/ This is the source for the archiver, not for toppler.dat. Well, this repository contains all the game data in its original editable format (Blender, GIMP, POV-Ray, PNGs, WAVs, ...). So, as far as I interpret it, it is not just the source for the archiver program... This would be most inconvenient. I would need to create custom source tarballs. I'm not really an expert in Debian packaging but very often I have seen foo-data packages. Maybe the toppler.dat file could be build in a toppler-data package with it's own source tarball just containing the files from the repository above? What do you actually want to do ? I wanted to have the sources of the program in an easily accessible and editable format after checking out the debian source package of toppler. I thought this is the meaning of a *source* package. Originally, I just wanted to take a look at the game data to find a replacement for the blurry desktop file icon, see my other bug report: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=794197 Cheers Ronny -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#790852: gespeaker crashes at startup
Hi could you please attach your ~/.config/gespeaker/settings.conf file? This file does not (yet?) exist on my system. The folder ~/.config/gespeaker/ was created but it is empty. Maybe because gespeaker never managed to start without crashing? Please attach here also the output of the command /usr/bin/espeak --voices OK, I attached the output as a file. Btw, this crash happens after a fresh install of Debian 8. I just noticed that this bug is locale dependent. If I use my system locale (de_CH.UTF-8) gespeaker crashes. If I call export LC_ALL=C; gespeaker it doesn't crash. Bug#789167: nvidia-legacy-304xx-alternative: alternative for libEGL is missing
I am using a system based on Debian Live and constantly switch between systems where, depending on the currently available hardware, different glx providers (mesa, fglrx, and different versions of the nvidia driver) are needed. Bug#789167: nvidia-legacy-304xx-alternative: alternative for libEGL is missing
Package: nvidia-legacy-304xx-alternative Version: 304.125-1 Severity: important glx-alternative-nvidia sets up a slave link for libEGL. The problem is that nvidia-legacy-304xx-alternative doesn't add this slave link, too. This way libEGL is completely missing in the running system when nvidia-legacy-304xx-alternative is selected via update-alternatives. This leads to many instabilities, e.g. no window decoration in KDE because kwin is just crashing... The attached patch, which just adds a slave link to the mesa version of libEGL, fixes the problem for me. So far everything runs fine, including 3D games. I am not sure if the patch is the correct solution and there are probably more things to fix (dependencies, etc.) so please consider the patch just as a first idea...
