I would be willing to give it a try to convert the openconnect package
 to a current upstream version + dh9 + split vpnc-scripts (basically
 closing most src:openconnect bugs). I'm not a DD/DM though, so I would
 require your permission/sponsorship.

Has anyone else expressed interest in maintaining this package (I'm

Mike Miller took over the packaging this week, so expect to see progress on the

openconnect uses DTLS from libssl to connect to the VPN. However compilation of
openconnect 3.12 fails on Debian because dtls1_stop_timer() isn't in the header
files.

Upstream libssl installs ssl_locl.h and that declares dtls1_stop_timer(). For
some reason this isn't packaged in Debian.

Bug#588618: network-manager-gnome needs tighter dep on network-manager

2010-07-12 Thread Ross Burton
As said, the only possible explanation I have, is that you upgraded the
packages, suspended your laptop (then, NM is disabled by
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager), your resume failed and you had to
 reboot.

This is exactly what happened to me. As this is the first time that
I've ever had a suspend failure on this laptop (suspend light was on,
but CPU and LCD were still on, so the laptop was roasting when I got it
out of my bag) I'm suspecting that NM was responsible for the suspend
failure too. Anyway, that isn't the point.

Please make the deps tighter so that the client and the daemon can
always talk. This time it's just the global on/off, but in the future
who knows what will change.

I need pycdio for a project of mine, and moticed this ITP.

It is a while since you filed it - are you still interested in

Ben's report was a Request For Package, not a ITP. I need pycdio too,

I think I’ll just ship the gimp plug-in in the metapackages - it looks
simpler and less buggy than the standalone program.

Sounds sensible. Last time I tried gnome-scan it was pretty bad at
actually scanning, but this was very a early snapshot...

 Please consider packaging
 /usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-openconnect-auth-dialog in a seperate binary
package. Or is it even necessary, since there is a
 network-manager-openconnect plugin as well?

No, the binary can't be part of the nm-openconnect package (if it could
the source would be there) because it contains a large amount of the
openconnect source code. I guess openconnect could be refactored to
install a library, I'll talk to upstream.

Maybe for now I could package the GTK+ bits as openconnect-gtk.

 Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for postr (versioned as 0.12.3-1.1) and
 uploaded it to DELAYED/2.

Please also consider joining the PAPT [1] and maintain the package with us.

 [1] http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/PythonAppsPackagingTeam/

I was previously the upstream maintainer too but have passed that on to
someone else. I'd welcome the PAPT taking over packaging entirely.

Bug#558779: Shows my encrypted rootfs in nautilus sidebar

Package: gvfs
Version: 1.4.1-6

On my machine I have a ext3 sda1 (/boot), and then an encypted (lvm/dm) sda2

appears in the nautilus sidebar, and if I click on it I get asked for the
passphrase.

Surely this shouldn't appear, because the partition is unlocked and in use by /

I don't agree with this patch because you're pulling in libnm-glib for a
setup which might involve Connman. If that is present in the distro
when you're using Network Manager (and can set that), if it isn't then
you're probably using connman and you can set that too.

A fallback mode would using dbus directly for both NM and CM, but not
that we switched to libnm-glib because there is a lot of logic there
(reconnection handling, mainly) which is tiresome to replicate.

Bug#545130: Missing suggests and recommends

2009-09-05 Thread Ross Burton
Package: get-iplayer
Version: 2.15-1
Severity: normal

My original upload of get-iplayer (2.15-1) had these control lines:

Recommends: flvstreamer, id3v2
Suggests: mplayer, ffmpeg, lame

I see that the latest update, 2.22-1, doesn't have these. As a result it isn't
possible to use get-iplayer out of the box for several formats and channels.

Bug#540760: Doesn't turn backlight off

2009-08-10 Thread Ross Burton
Package: gnome-screensaver
Version: 2.26.1-2

When gnome-screensaver activates the screen goes black but the backlight doesn't
turn off. I can set the backlight level to 0 manually using sysfs:

echo 0 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness

And xset dpms force off also turns off the backlight.

Bug#494175: Gypsy packages

Is there any user documentation? How do I tell it
 where to find the GPS?

Is this developed upstream at all, or is it a dead project?
As a user, should I bother with it right now?

I'm asking this now, because with libchamplain and geoclue
lots and lots of pieces of a geo-aware desktop are falling
into place right now, but gypsy is very quiet, or so it
seems to me as an outsider.

Thanks for your work, and sorry if you get asked that
 twice a week ;)

Gypsy is fairly quite but it's fairly stable. There are a number of
outstanding features which need to be completed, but for basic use it's
ready. The one thing stopped me uploading into Debian was the
requirement to run it as root and the lack of auto-starting. Maybe I
should just upload it to experimental now until there are sorted.

Regarding finding the GPS, your client application tells gypsy what
device to open. I'm a fly-by-night patcher to gypsy, if you want to
talk to the maintainer when email Iain Holmes.

the cryptopts=source=/dev/md1,target=md1_crypt,lvm=vg0-root

I've discovered that this is because the generated fstab has UUID
entries in, which upsets the cryptroot initramfs hook. Obviously this
codepath has never been tested.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=522041 is the relevant

Yeah, it's been in limbo for quite a while. For what it's worth, Fedora

Bug#524982: Integrate compatibility patches for Cisco VPN client DTLS

2009-04-21 Thread Ross Burton
Package: libssl0.9.8
Version: 0.9.8g-15.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Please consider integrating the compatibility patches for Cisco VPN client DTLS
support. These have been integrated into the upstream 0.9.8-stable branch and
I've been using them locally for some time now. There are three relevant
patches:

http://cvs.openssl.org/chngview?cn=17500

When the underlying BIO_write() fails to send a datagram, we leave the offending
record queued as 'pending'. The DTLS code doesn't expect this, and we end up
hitting an OPENSSL_assert() in do_dtls1_write(). The simple fix is just not to
leave it queued. In DTLS, dropping packets is perfectly acceptable -- and even
preferable. If we wanted a service with retries and guaranteed delivery, we'd be
using TCP.

http://cvs.openssl.org/chngview?cn=17505

Firstly, the bitmap we use for replay protection was ending up with zero length,
so a single pair of packets getting switched around would cause one of them to
be 'dropped'. Secondly, it wasn't even dropping the offending packets, in the
non-blocking case. It was just returning garbage instead.

http://cvs.openssl.org/chngview?cn=18037

Compatibility patches for Cisco VPN client DTLS.

These patches are required for the openconnect package to have useful
performance.

PS yes, I know that there are no lame/gstreamer*-lame in the official

lame is missing will be enough to know where to find it

Isn't it against policy to recommend a package which can't be installed

Bug#488495: r8169: multicast packets not received

2008-06-29 Thread Ross Burton
Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-iop32x
Version: 2.6.25-5
Severity: normal

I have a NAS (Thecus N2100, IOP32x based) connected to my network using the
r8169 driver. When I start avahi-daemon on the NAS, the rest of the network
sees the multicast zeroconf announce packets being sent. If I wait five minutes
for the caches to expire in the clients and then ask another machine to resolve
the names the NAS is announcing, the lookups fail. The same happens with UPnP,
which also uses multicast UDP packets to work. My conclusion is that multicast
packets being received by r8169 are not being correctly handled.

I've also tried enabling ALLMULTI and PROMISC, which had no effect.

2008-05-19 Thread Ross Burton
Package: libedataserverui1.2-8
Version: 2.22.1.1-2

There is a bug in e-passwords which means that when a GPG passphrase is cached,
all other passwords are deleted from the keyring. This means that once you send
a signed mail you'll need to re-enter your IMAP/SMTP/LDAP passwords next time
evolution starts.

This is a known upstream bug and fixed in svn:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=531439

I have applied that patch to my local e-d-s and have confirmed that it works.
There is meant to be a new upstream release next week but I'd like to see this
fixed asap to be honest!

I'm willing to join the evo packaging team and upload this as soon as I can if
that helps. :)

Bug#474544: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#474544: Move Network Manager Editor to System-Administration

It would be alongside Keyring Manager, which doesn't require root.

 What about

In gnome-control-center it is then listed under Internet and Network
and in the GNOME menu under System-Preferences.
Seems the best solution to me.

Seems better than Applications- to me.

I use dch in scripts to rebuild packages for different distributions (using
pbuilder), and its annoying having to say that yes, I know etch-backports or
gutsy are not valid Debian distributions. When I'm doing one its annoying,
but I'd like to be able to leave my machine rebuilding something like qemu (20
minute compile) for five different distributions without having to press return
five times.

Something like --force-distribution to skip the check would be great as far as
I'm concerned.

Attached is a patch, adapted from the upstream bug fix, which should
work. Annoyingly it compiles but the swig generation later fails so it
is, at present, untested.

This is how my svn build fails:

no translation framework.

Bug#460240: Missing dependency on libtaglib2.0-cil

2008-01-11 Thread Ross Burton
Package: banshee
Version: 0.13.2+dfsg-2
Severity: grave

When importing music, I get this exception:

** (Banshee:4048): WARNING **: The following assembly referenced from
/usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.Base.dll could not be loaded:
 Assembly: taglib-sharp(assemblyref_index=15)
 Version:2.0.2.0
 Public Key: db62eba44689b5b0
The assembly was not found in the Global Assembly Cache, a path listed in the
MONO_PATH environment variable, or in the location of the executing assembly
(/usr/lib/banshee).

** (Banshee:4048): WARNING **: Could not load file or assembly 'taglib-sharp,
Version=2.0.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=db62eba44689b5b0' or one of
its dependencies.

Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or
assembly 'taglib-sharp, Version=2.0.2.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=db62eba44689b5b0' or one of its dependencies.

PublicKeyToken=db62eba44689b5b0'

  at Banshee.Base.ImportManager+c__CompilerGenerated64.QueueSourcec__197 ()

Banshee then crashes. Manually install libtaglib2.0-cil fixes this, and makes
Banshee usable again.
