Bug#918857: python3-distutils: Newest version appears to be missing py36 modules

Bug#892494: diceware: "diceware" name violates trademark
Source: diceware Severity: serious Tags: upstream Justification: Policy 2.1 As stated in the footer of http://world.std.com/%7Ereinhold/diceware.html the original creator of diceware claims a trademark on the name. I've filed a bug with upstream here: https://github.com/ulif/diceware/issues/48 Upstream does not have permission from Arnold Reinhold to use the trademark, but is aware of the issue and has reached out to Reinhold with no response. This package should probably be removed or renamed if upstream does not get a response soon.

The new package works for me. However, I seem to remember previous versions of maim would save the screenshot to a file by default. Now it prints to stdout by default, which broke my script. If I'm not misremembering, maybe note that in the changelog? Simon signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Matija Naliswrites: > So, what is the status with mediagoblin in Debian? > > I've seen it go to NEW queue (and disappear from debian-mentors), but > never found any trace of it in unstable or elsewhere? Sorry, I haven't found the time to work on this a while. The package is now a version behind upstream, and there's a bunch of javascript stuff that will need to be dealt with for new new upstream version to be packaged. I'm going to remove myself as the owner of this bug, since I don't want to stop others from working on it. > Also, in Debian Jessie with python2.7 I don't see Christopher Baines > problem with jquery-1.11.1.js: > > git clone https://anonscm.debian.org/git/collab-maint/mediagoblin.git > cd mediagoblin > git fetch --all > git checkout debian/unstable > git-buildpackage -us -uc > > seems to build installable package ok in ../build-area > > What remains to be done so it can be included in Debian unstable? Depends if you want 0.7.1 or 0.8. 0.7.1 should only need a little more works. There's a thread about what needs to be done for it to be let through NEW, but I'm not quite sure how to link to it (is ftpmas...@ftp-master.debian.org archived somewhere?). 0.8 would need a fair amount, though I don't know exactly how much.
Bug#783308: RFS: mediagoblin/0.7.1+dfsg1-1 [ITP]
I've worked on a bit of this. Paul Wise p...@debian.org writes: On Sun, Apr 26, 2015 at 1:40 AM, Simon Fondrie-Teitler wrote: mediagoblin - web application for sharing photos, video and other media As I am potentially interested in mediagoblin as a possible front-end and or replacement for various debconf.org services, I've done a minimal first-pass review. I'm not involved in DebConf so that is of course dependent on the DebConf teams. The information in debian/copyright appears to be incorrect, most upstream files are AGPL not GPL. Whoops, fixed. I would suggest packaging all the embedded code copies separately, including the one you added via a patch (which itself has an embedded code copy). I looked into packaging them separately, but couldn't find good documentation on how to package css or javascript files. A few Debian developers I talked recommended not packaging them on their own. I would suggest using the new Files-Excluded option in debian/copyright and repacksuffix option in debian/watch, so that anyone can automatically convert the upstream tarball into the DFSG orig.tar.gz. You could also try to get those files removed from the upstream VCS. http://manpages.debian.org/man0/uscan Cool, I didn't know about those options. I've added them. I've talked to upstream about the files, and some will be removed in the new release, like the binary translation files. Others need to be there to make it easy for people installing via pip or a git checkout, like the javascript. It would be great if the steps for setting up a mediagoblin instance documented in README.Debian could be converted into a script distributed upstream; the Debian package could then prompt the sysadmin via debconf for the relevant details (suggesting appropriate defaults in the text) and then run the script. That's a good idea, although the version in README.Debian is closer to an example of one possible setup, rather than a suggested way of running it. I'm still thinking about the best way of doing this. I'm assuming it's not a blocking issue for package upload? I'd suggest that debian/gmg.1 be generated at dh_auto_build time or from the upstream build system. I tried doing this, but the script won't even succeed showing help output when run without mediagoblin/tools/common.py somewhere on the python path. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to modify the python path during build. I'd use cgit for Vcs-Browser and https for both Vcs-* URLs. Fixed. If it is possible to make MediaGoblin a Python 3 only package, I would suggest doing that. Python3 support in mediagoblin is not great yet, though work is being done to fix that. For now I think it makes most sense to leave it as python2. I note that upstream uses Transifex and Gitorious. The former is now proprietary and the latter is being shut down. Upstream may want to switch to something else for both. They have already moved off Transifex and onto Pootle. Plans are being made for a migration away from Gitorious. A long-overdue update: I submitted 0.6.1 to NEW a while back, and it was rejected for not properly documenting changes made to the source package in order to make the package dfsg-free. I have fixed this and a few more minor issues mentioned in the NEW review, along with packaging 0.8.1. I'm comfortable enough with the state of the package that I think it's now ready for another review by a DD. I'll be pinging a couple people for that, but if anyone has time and wants to take a look at it that would be great. I've also created an Ansible role for testing a build and install from the Debian package source, which can be found here: https://github.com/Simonft/ansible-debian-mediagoblin signature.asc Description: PGP signature

The version in unstable is 0.9.7. I'm not sure if that actually breaks anything, but I recall Chris Webber saying that some people had to run setup.py more than once to get it to work. I did get http://mediagoblin.org/download/mediagoblin-0.7.1.tar.gz and 'uupdate -u', which seemed to go ok. Then I had to remove 0001-Fix-Babel-version-restriction.-Onward-and-upward.patch (already applied in 0.7.1), and package built and installed. That sounds right, I actually used git-cherrypick to grab that from a later commit. however, running sudo -i -u mediagoblin /usr/bin/gmg -cf /etc/mediagoblin/default/mediagoblin.ini dbupdate dies with ImportError: No module named unidecode. Installing python-unidecode (or python3-unidecode, I guess) fixes that, so we should add that dependency for 0.7.1. Same thing is needed for python-jsonschema|python3-jsonschema. Afterwards, it dies with File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/mediagoblin/tools/metadata.py, line 25, in module from pyld import jsonld ImportError: No module named pyld and it doesn't seem like there is pyld in debian. pip install PyLD works around that, but we should probably package it and add it is a dependency? So I did: sudo -u postgres createdb -E UNICODE -T template0 -O mediagoblin mediagoblin which didn't complain. Hopefully it did the right thing :) That's strange. It works for me, and psql -c '\list' shows the encoding of template1 as UTF8 on both a wheezy machine and a jessie machine. Is this a fresh install? No, it was upgrade from squeeze (and possibly woody before that, but probably squeeze was first install). But even on fresh jessie debootstrap(8) install, it shows for me: $ psql -c '\list' List of databases Name |Owner| Encoding | Collate | Ctype | Access privileges -+-+---+-+---+--- mediagoblin | mediagoblin | UTF8 | C | C | postgres| postgres| SQL_ASCII | C | C | template0 | postgres| SQL_ASCII | C | C | =c/postgres + | | | | | postgres=CTc/postgres template1 | postgres| SQL_ASCII | C | C | =c/postgres + | | | | | postgres=CTc/postgres (4 rows) it might be different if installed through debian installer, and user choose something other than C locale. I usually choose C on servers and even rarely install locales package at all, unless I need it. I'm not quite sure why this is. I'll look into it more. I guess it might be related to system using default C locale, and not something utf8-based, but I don't really know. Anyway workaround with adding -T template0 seems to work and db is created. I think we should mention that workaround in README.Debian if the user encounters the bug. I'll move to 'sudo -u postgres createdb -E UNICODE -T template0 -O mediagoblin mediagoblin' in the README for now. It should work for both the UTF8 case and the SQL_ASCII case. - 3. Bug#657405: installing on wheezy
Thanks a lot for this! Matija Nalis mnalis-debian...@voyager.hr writes: python-bcrypt and python-itsdangerous on which mediagoblin depends are not present in wheezy, so I copied/recompiled them from jessie. After that, package compiled and installed without problems. So I'd say installing part is ready for jessie! Yeah, I got both of those packages into jessie in anticipation of the mediagoblin package, but not in time for wheezy. Then I proceeded following instructions for manual configuration in /usr/share/doc/mediagoblin/README.Debian.gz - here are few issues (on wheezy): - sudo -u postgres createdb -E UNICODE -O mediagoblin mediagoblin complains with: createdb: database creation failed: ERROR: new encoding (UTF8) is incompatible with the encoding of the template database (SQL_ASCII) HINT: Use the same encoding as in the template database, or use template0 as template. You can find the packages at https://mentors.debian.net/package/iperf3. Thanks and regards, I figured I'd take a quick look over this before trying to find someone else to take a look, and I noticed a few things: - It uses cJSON (http://cjson.sourceforge.net/), which is a separate project. This should ideally be made into a separate package instead of included in this one. Unless I'm mistaken it's not a package in Debian yet. - The copyright file mentions public-domain a few times, however, I don't think any of them are actually public domain. See the relevant section of the Debian copyright format manual: https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/#public-domain - In the copyright file, src/locale.c src/units.c src/tcp_window_size.c says it's licensed under public-domain, but the license looks like the BSD-3-Clause license. - config/ax_lib_socket_nsl.m4 also says it's public domain. - install-sh says FSF changes to this file are in the public domain., which does come from the license, but I highly doubt that the FSF would put a file into the the public domain since they know the issues with doing that. However, there are a bunch of other packages in Debian with this file in them, so I doubt it's a huge issue. These are mostly small problems, and I'm not positive any of them are blocking it getting into Debian. They are things that have been noticed in packages I've created in the past, though, so I'm guessing that they would be brought up with anyone I forwarded it to. Related github issue: https://github.com/xray7224/PyPump/issues/101 Is this a regression from the version in unstable? I don't think so. I'm honestly still trying to figure out how all of this fits together, and how the licenses work. The previous package didn't depend on it, and the suggestion to install pyopenssl is new, but it was never an explicit dependency. It's pulled in with the python support for TLS connections, so I'm fairly sure that if you had given it a https link in a previous version, it would have used the openssl code. The package is uploaded here: http://mentors.debian.net/package/python-pypump I'm also still trying to figure out the Debian policy towards python applications that are licensed under the GPL. My understanding is that any python code makes TLS connections ends up using code from the openssl library. Upstream is reluctant to add the clause, and points out that programs like offlineimap don't have this clause despite being GPL licensed and making TLS connections with python. I'm communicating with upstream about the DFSG issues, and talking to some DDs about how to address them. If others want to review the package as it stands, or take a crack at some of the issues, I'd be thrilled. I certainly don't want to slow down getting the package into Debian simply because I'm still learning. Bug#368297: About the libgcrypt and OpenLDAP issue
Hi, Carlos Alberto Lopez Perez clo...@igalia.com writes: Now I'm convinced that the right fix for this is to revert upstream d769529a71ccda4e833f919f3c5693d25b005ff0 [1] commit on libgcrypt like Ubuntu did. The Regression introduced on python-gnutls by such reversion was already fixed on Ubuntu with another patch (see LP:#1013798 [2]) and they have been running with the patch for some time without more problems (AFAIK) so I think that we can assume that there are no more regressions. Therefore I think we should reassign this bug back to libgcrypt11. Fix it with a patch that reverts d769529a71ccda4e833f919f3c5693d25b005ff0 [1] and then fill another RC bug for python-gnutls asking for applying the same patch that Ubuntu applied (see LP:#1013798 [2]) At work we are running into this problem while testing wheezy. setuid programs were failing when authenticating over ldap. I've tested a patch to libgcrypt11 reverting d769529a71ccda4e833f919f3c5693d25b005ff0 and it fixes the problem for us, with no obvious regressions. If you want me to do any more testing I can do so. Bug#696945: Kernel panic when pull out USB storage disk suddenly
I'm seeing what I think is the same issue. I've got a 2tb WD drive with btrfs. When I mount the drive, then unplug the usb cord connecting the hard drive without first unmounting it, it presents an error then or when I attempt to unmount the location that it is mounted under. When the error comes up it appears as if the computer has crashed, showing only white text on a black background similar to the linked picture in the original message, however I can switch to a tty then back to X and everything else seems to be fine. After this I cannot mount the device again until after a reboot, as mount will return: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so If you want more information or for me to file this upstream I can do so. Could you please check, if thats working? Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I'm now running 1.7.0-4~bpo60+1, which seems to be the one currently in backports. I'm still getting the same error. --Simon Fondrie-Teitler -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
