Bug#784682: systemd unable to boot when snoopy is enabled

2015-05-18 Thread Stefan Schmidt
FYI: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90364#c2

So i suppose snoopy should conflict with systemd then or maybe present a
warning label when it is about to be enabled on a systemd (as opposed to
systemd-sysv) booted system.
The latter (i.e. booting a systemd install in sysvrc mode via grub advanced
boot options) still works fine when snoopy is enabled.

Bug#784682: systemd unable to boot when snoopy is enabled

2015-05-07 Thread Stefan Schmidt

Package: systemd
Version: 215-17

I just came across an issue with journald being unable to start up when
snoopy is enabled that prevents a Jessie/systemd installation to boot up
which i reported to upstream at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90364 .

This is to let you know about the issue. Maybe we need to stick a
warning label somewhere. ;-)

 Dear Maintainer,
iec16022 produces broken datamatrix images when the data to encodes

 Hi,

as both syncevolution and syncevolution-dbus already depend on

Bug#514028: fix from gentoo

2010-01-13 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Hey folks,

Tobias Klausmann from the gentoo project found this little bugger, at
least it works for me now on the same machine and kernel that previously
showed the aforementioned malloc memory corruption messages.

I was able to
apt-get source arrayprobe
apply the patches from http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=300819
bump up the version and changelog in debian/
and then debuild it with no problems.

Yes.

 If so, for what reason?

One of the FTP assistents was of the opinion that it does not belong into main
but contrib as it is useful only to download non-free content. Refering to the
DFSG.

I asked him what parts of the DFSG he reads this from and my mentor and I also
pointed out that youtube-dl, lastfm and rhythmbox with his plugin for the
magnatune shop are also in main. Sadly we never heard back from him to claer up
what he was actually meaning.

It's not really a problem putting it into contrib but more the fact that it gets
rejected and a request to clarify gets ingnored which keeps me unmotivated to
fix this and re-upload.

If you are interesting in taking the package over and try your luck be my guest.
If not, this has to wait until I find some motivation again working on it.

Bug#516218: getaddrinfo not working while gethostbyname works

2009-03-05 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Actually i suspect this problem, which i see too btw. - dns lookups
taking too long - is the same thing a collegue had with his gentoo
workstation a few weeks ago.

The new glibc sends out two dns requests, one for IN A, and one for IN
at about the same time _and_ with the same source port:

only one of these queries is answered as you can see. In a myriad of
tests we found out that its not the nameservers - which i run btw. - but
our firewall (linux 2.6) that has problems coping with that kind of
thing. [1]

As this is really heavily performance impacting for networked
applications and i suspect many firewall implementations to choke on
this i hereby kindly request a debian patch that makes libc6 use
a seperate query port for each DNS query. This is also more secure i
might add. [2]

Bug#517876: iceweasel: crashed upon opening a new tab with middle-mouse-button click on link

2009-03-02 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Package: iceweasel

Severity: normal

After some opening/closing some tabs including facebook and some other JS sites
for some hours iceweasel crashed upon middle-mouse-button clicking a link (i.e.
opening link in new tab) without reportbox.

As this is a first after dist-upgrading unstable i strongly suspect side
effects of the new libc 2.9-4 (came from 2.7-18). Yes i did restart iceweasel

Bug#475141: pdns-server: pdns.conf.local overwritten with bad values,

2008-08-22 Thread Stefan Schmidt
I had a working configuration in /etc/powerdns/pdns.conf.
With 2.9.21.1-1 - 2.9.21.1.0-1 the beforementioned broken additions came to
/etc/powerdns/pdns.d/pdns.local and broke my customized pdns.conf by
overriding the mysql backend query statements in pdns.conf.

I have thus now uncommented the (last) line
include=/etc/powerdns/pdns.d
in pdns.conf.

I wonder why you decided to overwrite my working - because it was empty -
/etc/pdns.d/pdns.local, doesn't really sound like you're sticking to the 'if
it ain't broken, don't try to fix it' doctrine here.

Bug#495691: do not log malformed qdomains

2008-08-22 Thread Stefan Schmidt
http://doc.powerdns.com/performance-settings.html
reads Logging truly kills performance as answering a question from the cache
is an order of magnitude less work than logging a line about it. Busy sites
will prefer to turn log-dns-details and log-failed-updates off.

Have you tried setting those to off?

Bug#377181: cache locally resolvable domains

2008-08-22 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Please note that pdns-server != pdns-recursor.
If it is at all possible for you you should consider separating recursive and
authoritative DNS service to different IP adresses.

As for the caches, yes PowerDNS server has two caches relevant to your
backends query load, packet and query cache.

PowerDNS recursor is another process and has its own recursive cache.

You can totally run PowerDNS server without specifying a recursor (recursor=).

For example for a standalone Mail-/Webserver it makes sense to have your
recursive Nameserver, say PowerDNS recursor, or BIND9, bind to 127.0.0.1 and
use that in your resolv.conf and have PowerDNS server listen for authoritative
queries on your 'official' internet facing address.

That way you don't burden PowerDNS server with the additonal load of your
servers recursive queries.

Btw. PowerDNS recursor running standalone works like a charm for many large
mailservers as serveral people in #powerdns (IRCnet) confirmed.

Bug#377181: Info received (cache locally resolvable domains)

2008-08-22 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Ah i just noticed your inquiry was from 2006, confused that with the current
ones.

PowerDNS recursor has been separated from PowerDNS server with the release of
PowerDNS recursor 3.0 on 20th of April 2006.

So i think its safe to say this is upstream fixed now. ;)

Indeed it was installed. Sadly there was also some old cruft aka
libnl1-pre6 installed in /lib which was found first.

Grrr, I hate it when such things happen. I really should not install
stuff next to the package system. Sorry for the noise.

mutt-ng development has still stopped. There is a new patch repo at
 http://bereshit.synflood.at/svn/mutt-patches/trunk/README from where
I'll try to create new packages. But this is still a patched mutt
and no mutt-ng :( One conclusion is to cooperate with the mutt
maintainer (cc'd) to create two different packages then.

OK, so they just keep up-to-date with their patchset against vanilla
mutt. Work together with the mutt mainatiner sounds like a good idea
to me with this change.

There are nice features like sidebar and nttp which I don't want
 to miss.

Exactly the same here.

Bug#394222: Chnage the Icon= line in .desktop file fixed it. What is the _right_ way?

2006-11-05 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Hello.

As Sven Arvidsson suggested; change the icon info in the .desktop file
fixed it.

Icon=/usr/share/games/supertux/images/icon.xpm

Unfortunately I don't think that this is the right fix. Any
documentation for this in debian which could help me to prepare a
patch?

BTW, is there a reason why I don't get the replies to this bug to my
mailbox? Polling the website is no fun.

Stefan Schmidt

You do mean in the *GNOME* menu, not the Debian submenu, right?

Right. Gnome Accessories for example.

The specification of .desktop files is hosted under
  http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Standards, check this spec:
  http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Standards_2fdesktop_2dentry_2dspec

OK, the standard refers to an icon lookup algo:

http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-theme-spec/icon-theme-spec-latest.html#icon_lookup

I'll take a look later this day.

Bug#394236: Acknowledgement (gnome-btdownload: Fails to start second bittorent connection.)

2006-10-30 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Hello.

Ueli Zahnd was kind enough to provide me the information that you can
set min_port and max_port in /apps/gnome-btdownload/settings .

Both was set to 6881, so only one connection was working.

I know that more then one connection was working by default in the
past. The question is if this setting was recently introduced, with a
scarry default value, or changed to this value.

Hello.

Amaranth. But even themes like Clearlooks, Crux and Glider don't show
the icon.

 Please check if the
 file /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/gnomebaker-48.png exists in
 your system.

Yes, it exists.

I'm not a .desktop file guru, but here is a way which fixes it for
_me_:

Change Icon=gnomebaker-48 to Icon=gnomebaker in
/usr/share/applications/gnomebaker.desktop and move gnomebaker-48.png
to gnomebaker.png in /usr/share/gnomebaker .

Again, I'm not sure if this is the right fix. Is there a guide how to
handle the desktop files in debian?

Bug#394714: was Re: mod_ssl preventing apache2 from starting (segfault)

Ok now i found the fitting bug...

i see the same in gdb:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 16384 (LWP 22030)]

And as i quoted below i guess someone just broke epoll detection.

Somehow i feel like CCing the apache people but as their bugzilla seems to be
unavailable and i cant find a fitting email-address i guess i have to stick
with you guys.

But take not care that the user exist on the system. This causes the following

I don't know which way would be better, change the username or create the user
named. So only report without patch.

Bug#342652: yaird missed support for CRYPTO_AES_586 and CRYPTO_AES_X86_64

2005-12-09 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Package: yaird
Version: 0.0.11-12

Since kernel version 2.6.8 there are also config option
CRYPTO_AES_586. With version 2.6.13 CRYPTO_AES_X86_64 was added.

So it would be good to add support also to perl/KConfig.pm
Otherwise you have a problem with compiled in support for
CRYPTO_AES_586 and a yaird dm-crypt setup.

Bug#336022: this is actually binutils bug

This is binutils (version 2.16.1cvs20050902-1 and newer) bug (feature?).
With binutils from testing (version 2.16.1-2) it is possible to compile
the kernel with any gcc version (2.95, 3.3, 3.4).

Binutils tightened on ix86 the checks for potentially invalid operands
recently, thus, without having looked at the code, I'm inclined to claim
this is a problem in kernel 2.4.31.

Ah yes, i reported it against gcc.2-95 because i was previously unable to
compile 2.4.31-rc1 with gcc4 and Adrian Bunk told me that gcc4 is not
supported with kernel 2.4 so i tried 2.95, you know the rest of the story... ;)

Bug#306907: libpam-ldap: Package upgrade corrupts bindpw password in configuration file

2005-04-29 Thread Stefan Schmidt
Package: libpam-ldap
Version: 178-1
Severity: normal

After the last upgrade of libpam-ldap (as well as libnss-ldap), the bindpw
passwords saved in my configuration files, pam_ldap.conf and libnss-ldap.conf,
got corrupted. In my case they contained an '@' character. After upgrading,
the @ sign and the remainder of the passwords were truncated.
I already encountered a similar problem when first configuring the packages
using debconf. I had to enter the passwords manually in the config files.
