Bug#843256: systemd: Follow-up to previous post

2017-12-17 Thread Stephen Liebbe
Package: systemd
Version: 235-3
Followup-For: Bug #843256

Dear Maintainer,

After comparing every man page in systemd package, I found that my previous
diff would introduce errors in many places.
The following diff singles out the particular problem man page and fixes the
error in it. Unless there are similar errors
in other man pages, this is the best that I can do.

Bug#823873: gnome-software: missing dependencies or setup for non-gnome desktops

2016-05-27 Thread Stephen Liebbe
Package: gnome-software
Followup-For: Bug #823873

Dear Maintainer,

This bug can be removed.

I re-installed from scratch the complete task-lxde-desktop. I then set the
default target in systemctl to multi-user, allowing me to use startx
from a console prompt. The program works in a minimal fashion. I believe it
needs gnome-control-center for more functionality, which draws in many more
dependencies. I shall continue using aptitude.

That's at best a wishlist bug. DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS isn't even mandatory,
fwiw.

Thomas

The following diff output applied to gnumach-1.3.99.dfsg.1/Makefile.in
will fix this error except for device drivers. The floppy and ide
device drivers are checked and are clear of problems.

---

  $(gnumach_o_LINK) $(gnumach_o_OBJECTS) $(gnumach_o_LDADD) $(LIBS)
--end-group

Diffs for device drivers will follow as I have a chance to test them

Bug#389277: This report should be closed.

2006-10-14 Thread Stephen Liebbe

I missed the wishlist items for netbase that leads to the history of
this problem. You are working on the problem already and once
openbsd-inetd is released for Hurd the dependency problem will go
away. netbase is still being used. I found that you have openbsd-inetd
in the buildd queue (is that right terminology?) and once it passes
the problem should be solved.

Thank you for the polite responses to a Debian newbie. I hope that I
do better in the future.

Regards,
Stephen

As I explained in my first answer, the point is:

  if hurd does not use
the netbase package then its replacement too should create inetd.conf.

So, what happened to netbase on hurd systems?

netbase is still in use on Hurd, although the upgrade from 4.25 is
stopped due to depending on openbsd-inetd and it is missing. I assumed
that the missing inetd.conf was the problem. I will find out on Hurd
mailing list what is happening.

Bug#389277: inetd.conf make found

2006-10-09 Thread Stephen Liebbe

The inetd.conf file is created in the preinst control script for the
openbsd-inetd package. I believe that this bug report can be closed
since I understand the "openbsd-inetd" package is to be replaced by
the "inetutils-inetd" package and the inetd.conf will need to be
changed for this.

Bug#389277: What package creates inetd.conf???

2006-10-07 Thread Stephen Liebbe

I have searched for the package that creates inetd.conf both in etch/Linux and
hurd and cannot find any. If I do a "dpkg --search inetd.conf" on either
system it returns just the man page.

I looked into the contents of netbase-4.25 on Linux and found no
mentiof of the inetd.conf file either in the files themselves (dpkg
--extract netbase...) nor in the control files scripts (dpkg --control
netbase...).

I went through a businesscard install of etch/Linux (2006/10/06) and noted that
the inetd.conf file was created when the base system files were put to
disk. Again, "dpkg --search inetd.conf" does not return listing for
the /etc/inetd.conf file. I searched other packages trying to find
mention of inetd.conf but could not find it.

I am a newbie so am probably missing something obvious. I hope to
track down the problem in the hurd-i386 distribution and perhaps help
with fixing on my own, but cannot find out where the inetd.conf file
is created on Linux either. The installer seems to create it without
leaving any traces behind in the packages installed.

If you want me to move this to mailing lists I will. I do understand
that Hurd is
not a high priority.

Bug#389277: nonexistent /etc/inetd.conf breaks update-inetd script

2006-09-24 Thread Stephen Liebbe
Package: update-inetd
Version: 4.27
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 11.2

hurd K11 install with updates does not create /etc/inetd.conf.
update-inetd script cannot add entries without file already present.
works OK if /etc/inetd.conf created manually, but this violates Policy.

Sorry if already aware of this. Hoped to file report on old netbase package,
but things are changing too quickly.

The "/etc/initd.d" should be "/etc/inetd.d".
Also, the "from a configuration pathnames" should simply be
