I tried it again and can confirm that it doesn't say anything with root.

However, attempting this in a tty with and without root gave me the
following error message:

setfont: ERROR setfont.c:406 kfont_load_font: Cannot find default font

Bug#1071847: Multiple plug-in packages

2024-05-25 Thread Sven Grewe
I got an idea. Wouldn't it be nice to have multiple packages only for
the plug-ins alongside the core one? The user can then choose to install
core + selected plug-ins if they want to. Full/standard option still
installs all of them.

Good for the user/enterprise and a lot more work for the maintainer
without any advantages when it comes to package size. A win-lose I guess.

Bug#1069743: keepassxc (minimal) does not support anything

2024-05-25 Thread Sven Grewe

Hi,

how dare you not read the NEWS of this package. Oh, you read it... This
is however NOT a bug but a newly added feature. No functionalities means
no vulnerabilities. It's that easy. Core plugins like this can be a
"[risk] for most users."[1] You just need to install keepassxc-full to
have anything from the original KeepassXC.

I created a separate issue about this.[2]

Kind regards,
Sven Grewe

Bug#1071847: keepassxc: Package doesn't contain it's core features

2024-05-25 Thread Sven Grewe

Subject: keepassxc: Package doesn't contain it's core features
Package: keepassxc
X-Debbugs-Cc: svengr...@posteo.de
Version: 2.7.7+dfsg.1-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Is it really a good idea to have a stripped down version of KeepassXC as
the standard package (keepassxc)? If normal users (pretty much everyone)
get to install it they would expect the advertised features of
KeepassXC. With the change in version 2.7.7+dfsg.1-2 you pulled most of
them out to a separate package (keepassxc-full).

I suggest to have the standard version of KeepassXC be called keepassxc
(or link it to keepassxc-full) with it's intended upstream features
built-in.
A smaller hardened (and hopefully working) version e.g. can be
keepassxc-core or keepassxc-minimal .

It shouldn't be Debian's job in my opinion to axe part of a program and
also break it because of (unfounded) "dangerous" opt-in functionality.
Features that the user even needs to enable. My advice would be to not
even plug your computer to the network to be even more safe and please
don't use any browser or this nasty thing referred to as email.

If that's not possible it would be at least a good idea to state that
the standard package comes "Without any features" in it's short description.

Kind regards,
Sven Grewe

PS: Upstream maintainers and users are mad because of this change.

Bug#1059809: apt-build: Bad error message for a missing source package

2024-01-01 Thread Sven Grewe
Package: apt-build
Version: 0.12.49
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: svengr...@posteo.de

Dear Maintainer,

when I try to build a package without it's sources in /etc/sources.list
I get the following:

$ sudo apt-build install nice-package
Missing source package name for source_by_source().

Something seems to be broken with this string here? Adding the source repository
into the list makes this go away.

Kind regards,
Sven Grewe

Bug#311675: Building the core component of the xserver

2024-01-01 Thread Sven Grewe
I could build and install the package "xserver-xorg-core" using
apt-build on Debian 12 and Ubuntu 23.10.
Is this a failed build or a dependency issue? And does this problem
still exists with similar packages in oldstable or newer (11+)?

Dear Maintainer,

If I type setfont into the console, I expect it to use the default font as
the manual says. It gives an error instead:

Bug#864795: Trademark rights and release schedule

2023-03-05 Thread Sven Grewe

Hello,

provided that everything in Brave is free software the trademarks could
still be a problem. The use of logos and trademarks of Brave Software
Inc probably requires prior written permissions.[1] The Mozilla Public
License version 2 doesn't give this rights.[2]

The distribution in official Debian releases (stable branch) also needs
special attention and active collaboration with the security and release
teams. More or less the same exceptions like for Firefox, Chromium,
Thunderbird, Webkit and co.

It would be a lot of work I guess.

Bug#1004589: GNUnet service doesn't start correctly

2022-10-07 Thread Sven Grewe

The GNUnet service still doesn't start correctly in version 0.17.6-1.

Bug#1004589: GNUnet daemon doesn't start successfully

2022-01-30 Thread Sven Grewe

Package: gnunet
Version: 0.15.3-4
Severity: important

I installed the gnunet package and the GNUnet daemon probably didn't
start successfully. I haven't change any config files.

"# service gnunet status" on a Debian Sid system reports:

●gnunet.service - A framework for secure peer-to-peer networking

preset: enabled)

'exit-code'.
Jan 30 19:54:54 debian systemd[1]: Failed to start A framework for
secure peer-to-peer networking.

I belief that this behavior is not intended.

I first backported the package for myself to my Bullseye system and
tested it there. It probably has similar problems to the original
package from unstable. After that I installed the package on a freshly
installed (Debian 11 without GUI) and upgraded (to Unstable) VM. The
GNUnet daemon seems not to work out of the box there too I guess.

Bug#978557: lutris: Add German translation

2020-12-28 Thread Sven Grewe
Package: lutris
Version: 0.5.8.1~bpo10+5
Severity: normal
Tags: patch upstream

Hello,

there is a German translation patch available in my own Github repostitory at
https://github.com/Sven792/lutris/tree/de. I tested it with an own build (fork
of pre-0.5.8.2) for Buster and it works. To use the newer development version
build of lutris I had to install the package python3-lxml on Buster (probably
applies to Bullseye too).

Sven
