Bug#623108: x11-xserver-utils: Reassigning anything no longer works

2013-02-09 Thread TheGZeus
Package: x11-xserver-utils
Version: 7.7~3
Followup-For: Bug #623108

I receive this same error, and it affects all xmodmap
evaluations/reassignments, not just altgr.
This breaks certain behaviour in stumpwm (likely another bug, but that's not
why we're here now) in ways that have me in the framebuffer.

I could theoretically do some testing/work under ratpoison, but I'll wait for
info.
Thanks

Bug#671535: emacs23: emacsclient -c fails silently when started with --daemon option, but -t works as expected.

2012-05-04 Thread TheGZeus
Package: emacs23
Version: 23.4+1-3
Severity: important

When starting Emacs with "emacs --daemon", startup proceeds as expected,
however emacs appears wholly unaware of X. emacsclient -c fails silently after
"Waiting for Emacs...", and any external commands that involve X fail to
recognise that it is running. (emms with mplayer starts a video file audio only
etc).

If emacs is started with no options, then an X window appears. If the server is
started manually (M-x server-start), both terminal and X clients can be started.

This is a fairly recent phenomena, but I cannot say exactly, as there were at
least two upgrades to the package before I restarted Emacs (it generally runs
for months).

Bug#618273: gambc: Version upgrade request

2011-03-13 Thread TheGZeus
Package: gambc
Severity: wishlist

The version in debian is 4.2.8 and the current version is 4.6.0. There are a
few projects that require higher versions than 4.2.x. Gambit Scheme is also
hard to build on computers with lower RAM levels. (took 10 minutes and 6-10% of
the RAM on a Sparc server with 8 procs and 16GiB of RAM! ^_^)
Just saying that it's not easy/possible to build on my machines.

Bug#587207: alsa-base: no audio with usb audio after upgrade(s?)

2010-06-25 Thread TheGZeus
Package: alsa-base
Version: 1.0.23+dfsg-1
Severity: important

I'm not sure how many upgrades I've gone through, as I'd had a 241-day up-time.

I've disabled the internal soundcard, and previously this setup Just Worked.
I've not configured anything manually.

I've tried --reinstall on all the alsa packages, multiple reboots, the old
*trunk version of the kernel, using experimental's kernel (only a reboot and
quick test with mplayer), and tried manually modprobe snd-usb-audio and
/etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart (and stop/start) each time.

Not sure what else to try.

Bug#575972: lxappearance: segmentation fault on trying to change themes

2010-03-30 Thread TheGZeus
Package: lxappearance
Version: 0.4.0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Upon trying to change to any theme after setting it to Qt4, it simply segfaults
upon clicking Apply.
I've tried removing .gtkrc-2.0 to no avail.
Furthermore, despite changing my Qt4 theme from Oxygen to Motif, newly launched
gtk applications continue to use Oxygen.
There are also a number of warnings about unknown icon file types in the
console, but I'm not sure that's related.

Might be an i386-only problem, as my amd64 box doesn't have this issue.

Bug#553484: slime: depends on an emacs version other than emacs-snapshot

2009-10-31 Thread TheGZeus
Package: slime
Severity: wishlist

I only have emacs-snapshot installed, and would prefer to keep things that way.
As such, I'd have to manually install from cvs, or do what I used to for
packages with this problem: install the emacsen it depends on, and then remove
them, and hope the package I wanted will stick around, which oddly worked.

emacs23 is great, but I like the weekly updates for various reasons, and slime
works fine on them.

Bug#546396: cl-clx-sbcl: fails to load

2009-09-12 Thread TheGZeus
Package: cl-clx-sbcl
Version: 0.7.3-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I believe I've got the right package this time(oops).
Debugger output:

other modules load, only clx fails of what I've tested. (CLisp is having a clx
problem, too, but that's a built-in for that implementation, so my guess is
it's a coincidence)
Same error on two different machines after yesterday's upgrades.

PS
Sorry about the clc bug report, jumped the gun there.
The fact that it was two implementations failing freaked me out. I should have
calmed down and tested before reporting. Weird coincidence.
asdf can load cl-ppcre, so it's likely not asdf, either.

Though the sbcl version of clx seems to be broken as well, in this case my

Bug#544646: console-setup: ~/.XCompose file ignored

2009-09-01 Thread TheGZeus
Package: console-setup
Version: 1.44

I'm not sure console-setup is to blame, but I'm unsure where else to file it,
and distros without it do not have this problem.
I've had some small issues with xmodmap and other small issues that weren't too
hard to work around.

not sure where to go from here.

Bug#539581: jackd always tries to run realtime

2009-08-01 Thread TheGZeus
Package: jackd
Version: 0.116.2+svn3592-2
Severity: important

I cannot get jackd to run, as it continues to try running in realtime mode,
despite a dpkg-reconfigure jackd, and selecting 'no' to the question
(mistakenly selected 'yes' previously)
now it simply refuses to start with the following error:

"JACK is running in realtime mode, but you are not allowed to use realtime
scheduling.

After applying these changes, please re-login in order for them to take effect.

You don't appear to have a sane system configuration. It is very likely that you
encounter xruns. Please apply all the above mentioned changes and start jack
again!"

Is it asking me to completely log out of every shell, X, etc before I can use
it?
Is this a debian bug, or some new, even more frustrating Jack thing?
I can't figure out if I'm having problems with Rosegarden until I get Jack
running (problem using plugins, not sure if it wants Jack running, or some
other problem, as I always had it running in the past).
