Bug#815298: linux-image-4.4.0-trunk-686-pae: sdhci module repeatedly crashes, eventually brings whole system down

2016-02-20 Thread Thomas Thurman
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.4-1~exp1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

I'm having intermittent crashes, apparently from the sdhci kernel module. At
least,
I assume that's what's causing it, since I'm getting a series of tracebacks
before each crash. The timing of the crashes is unpredictable, but they
generally happen with about twelve hours of uptime, and sometimes with
only a few minutes.

When there's a crash, the system freezes up rather than shuts down,
and it won't respond to any kind of input.

In addition, a number of PCI devices aren't listed in lspci (or
in the list at the end of this report). These include wifi and
sound. I'm mentioning this in case the sdhci problem has something
to do with it.

I apologise if I've got this report wrong-- I've never reported
a kernel issue before.

Thank you.

Here's an excerpt from kern.log a few days ago, showing the problem:

thanks

I must apologise for the delay in finishing the debianisation here;
I know a number of people are looking forward to seeing it finished.

The work I currently have is available via git from
https://github.com/tthurman/ploverdeb

and various versions of the package, along with their lintian reports,
are visible at
https://mentors.debian.net/package/plover

I think I'm making progress, but suggestions and help are always welcome.
Thanks to the folk on #debian-mentors for helping me get this far.

Perhaps not under that name, but this is more widely known these days by

See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastermind_%28board_game%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulls_and_cows

Various forms of the game, not all word-based, are already in the archive:

$ apt-cache search mastermind
4digits - guess-the-number game, aka Bulls and Cows
ace-of-penguins - penguin-themed solitaire games
colorcode - advanced clone of the MasterMind code-breaking game
gnome-mastermind - Mastermind (TM) clone for GNOME Desktop
gtkboard - many board games in one program
sgt-puzzles - Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection - 1-player puzzle
games

Of course that doesn't preclude the addition of another.

2012-01-04 Thread Thomas Thurman
Package: wnpp

X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org

Plover is a stenotype input method for X11. It allows input of English text
using
chords rather than letter by letter, enabling typing speeds to approach 300wpm
for a skilled user. It can use a dedicated stenotype machine, or a standard
QWERTY keyboard as long as it permits chords to be passed to the computer.

Plover is written in Python. The licence is GPL v2. Its name rhymes with
lover, not over, just as with the name of the wading bird.

Bug#471442: Turning Metacity's compositor on or off

2008-10-02 Thread Thomas Thurman
Since version 2.25.1, Metacity's compositor can be turned on and off
from the command line. --composite turns it on, and --no-composite
turns it off. --composite can be abbreviated to -c. Could you add this
to the README?

Actually, perhaps I should put it in some upstream file which then gets
included in Debian.

You can also set the gconf key which is what I'd recommend

--composite, -c, and --no-composite do actually set the gconf key
as well.

Bug#381509:

2006-08-09 Thread Thomas Thurman
There is a consensus on gnome bug #83892 that this isn't something they want to turn on. That's why I gave it a GConf entry so it would default to off. But Elijah says it shouldn't have a GConf entry at all: it should either be included and always on, or not included.
If the Debian people would like me to rewrite it in these terms, I'm happy to do so.

I'm Thomas Thurman, the developer who wrote the original patch. The schema patch looks good to me:Adalbert, would you mind also attaching it to gnome bug 83892?Incidentally, I was wondering whether you wanted it to default to true or false in Debian. (Defaulting it to false upstream seems like the best idea.)
