Hi,

the security team proposed to fix CVE-2011-4099 through p-u. I've prepared a
fixed package at http://people.debian.org/~twerner/ based on a backport of the
fix from unstable/testing. You can find additional information about the problem
at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2011-4099. Please consider
updating the squeeze version.

Cheers,
Torsten

Bug#653964: glassfish predictable hash collisions

2012-01-02 Thread Torsten Werner
Hi,

It was reported that Glassfish is affected by the predictable hash collisions
attack that made its rounds around the net this week. This is tracked at
 http://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2011-5035

I do not think that we are vulnerable because Debian does not ship a
full glassfish stack. We build some core libs only.

Can you ensure that fixed packages are uploaded to sid as soon as possible,
and assert whether a fix for lenny and squeeze would be necessary?

I do not even understand how to reproduce the issue. May you elaborate
on that, please?

Thanks,
Torsten

Shipping multiple, different JAR files means that once you load multiple
ASM-using libraries, some of them are bound to use different JARs, and
the JVM will have to open all of them.  At best, this wastes resources,
at worse, compatibility problems result, depending on the order classes
are loaded in the JVM.  (Symlinks are fine, the JVM performs path
 canonicalization.)

I don't think Debian needs to ship the subset JARs at all.

upstream packages sometimes directly reference the individual jars. It
would be too much work to maintain patches for all them.

I've checked your patch but I am not fully satisfied. :) I prefer

patch upstream). It shouldn't be too hard and I'll look at it tonight.

Bug#581487: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Failed to locate resource: XmlRpcClient.properties

2011-09-26 Thread Torsten Werner
Hi,

thank you for your bug report! I am sorry for my late reply. May you
come up with some patch to fix the issue? Or something similar, maybe
more detailed instructions? Any example property file?

Thanks!

On Thu, May 13, 2010 at 8:20 AM, R B rjbbu...@gmail.com wrote:
 Package: libxmlrpc3-client-java
 Version: 3.1.3-2

The version of libxmlrpc3-client-java which went into testing in April
contains a change to allow the library version to be included in the
client's user agent string, instead of hard-coding a more generic user agent
 string in the XmlRpcHttpTransport.java file.

This change was implemented by adding an XmlRpcClient.properties file to the
org/apache/xmlrpc/client directory which contains a property named
 user.agent
whose value is the user agent string to use. The XmlRpcHttpTransport class
 was
modified to look for this property file in that location and use the
user.agent property contained therein as its USER_AGENT string.

Presumably, the tool used to create the xmlrpc-client.jar file is supposed
 to
first create or update the XmlRpcClient.properties file with the current
version that is being built and include it in the jar, but the
XmlRpcClient.properties file is missing in this release (and possibly from
 the
upstream release, too), which results in a not-too-informative exception
 message.
It is not possible to get a working client until an
 WEB-INF/classes/org/apache/xmlrpc/client/XmlRpcClient.properties file
containing a user.agent property is added to the jar.

It may not be a bad idea to add a fallback mechanism in the
XmlRpcHttpTransport class in the event the XmlRpcClient.properties file is
inadvertently forgotten in the future which will use a default hard coded
 user
agent string if the attempt to load from the properties file fails for any
reason, and maybe log some kind of warning.

I have fixed the asm3 package recently. Sorry for that, because it
triggers some packaging bugs. The asm3.jar has been a symlink to
asm3-full.jar in the past but it is now the real core library. Some
packages relied on getting the full library by referring to the core
library only. I suspect the current bug is in clojure. I'll look at
it.

Okay, the bug is in /usr/bin/lein. The line 66 must be changed from

I am not able to commit the change into the git repo because I do not
understand the vcs layout. It looks like that I have to rebase the

part of the Apache Jakarta project. I'll file a separate bug report for
experimental.

Thanks,

Bug#406279: Try rolling back libjasper-java to 5.5.26-5

Then, I looked in the log and found a message that said eclipse couldn't

libjasper-java to version 5.5.26-5 and lo and behold - everything was
 fine.

I've recently upgraded libjasper-java from version 5.5.26 to 5.5.33.
That means we do no longer have a file
/usr/share/java/jasper-5.5.26.jar but we have jasper-5.5.33.jar and a
symlink jasper-5.5.jar. We did not have the symlink in the old version
of the package. And this OSGi header changed 'Bundle-Version: 5.5.33'.

Bug#641757: ITP: maven-project-info-reports-plugin -- Maven Project Info Reports Plugin

2011-09-15 Thread Torsten Werner

  Version : 2.4
Upstream Author : Johnny R. Ruiz III
* URL :
http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-project-info-reports-plugin/
* License : Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Maven Project Info Reports Plugin

Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Based on the
concept of a project object model (POM), Maven can manage a project's build,
reporting and documentation from a central piece of information.
 .
Maven's primary goal is to allow a developer to comprehend the complete
state of a development effort in the shortest period of time. In order to
attain this goal there are several areas of concern that Maven attempts
 to deal with:
 .
* Making the build process easy
* Providing a uniform build system
* Providing quality project information
* Providing guidelines for best practices development
* Allowing transparent migration to new features
 .
The Maven Project Info Reports Plugin is a plugin that generates standard
 reports for the specified project.

Bug#641298: libmaven-scm-java: circular dependency hell

bill.allomb...@math.u-bordeaux1.fr wrote:

I've re-read the policy. I've found out that the circular dependency
'hell' is about the configure phase and can happen only if *all*
packages in the circle have a postinst file. That is not hard to
check. On my local system I can find no match for *maven*.postinst
(that renders the current bug report invalid) and only a few matches
for lib*java*.postinst. The matches can be categorized into:

1) install-docs snippets added by old versions of debhelper. A simple
rebuild is enough to fix this.

2) ldconfig snippets added by debhelper in jni packages. Such packages
are not very common and are probably never part a dependency circle.

3) rebuild-gcj-db snippets in gcj packages. Many of these package will
get dropped if they still exist. We will maintain only a small set of
gcj packages in the future and they probably won't be part of
dependency circle.

4) There is a very small number of packages left. The risk is low that
they will cause real issues.

IMHO there is no reason to file random bug reports for innocent packages.

I see. But I am not convinced that we currently have a real problem
that can be reproduced. I must admit that i do not have time to hunt
unreproducible bugs.

This also a matter of good taste: it is pointless to provide 3 packages if
 the user is forced
to install them all: a single one would do. Most of the time it is caused by a
 packaging bug (e.g. a typo in debian/control).

The packages can be updated independently. Such a use case is not
pointless and is even important because the upstream code is released
independently.

Indeed. Given that this circular dependency was introduced yesterday, it
 could not have
 caused problem with previous upgrade.

I do not mind splitting one of those binary packages into two packages
as long as we do not have to split the jar files. But I am expecting
some proposal from your side. I simply do not know what kind of
splitting would resolve the issue.

That is why I am filing individual removal requests for each source package.

your package fails to build against iceweasel 4.0 (currently in
experimental). iceweasel 5.0 will soon be uploaded to unstable, so
your package needs to be updated to cope with the new version, or
 will have to be removed.

 Build logs are available at

the only reverse dependency of libjdic-java is paros. What are your
plans with paros? Do you want keep maintaining it? May you help us
fixing the rc bug in jdic, please?

Bug#639715: ITP: libjsoup-java -- Java HTML parser that makes sense of real-world HTML soup

2011-08-29 Thread Torsten Werner
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Torsten Werner twer...@debian.org

* Package name: libjsoup-java
  Version : 1.6.1
  Upstream Author : Jonathan Hedley
* URL : http://jsoup.org/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Java HTML parser that makes sense of real-world HTML soup

Jsoup is a Java library for working with real-world HTML. It provides a very
convenient API for extracting and manipulating data, using the best of DOM,
 CSS, and jquery-like methods.
 .
jsoup implements the WHATWG HTML specification (http://whatwg.org/html), and
parses HTML to the same DOM as modern browsers do.
 .
   * parse HTML from a URL, file, or string
   * find and extract data, using DOM traversal or CSS selectors
   * manipulate the HTML elements, attributes, and text
   * clean user-submitted content against a safe white-list, to prevent XSS
   * output tidy HTML
 .
jsoup is designed to deal with all varieties of HTML found in the wild; from
pristine and validating, to invalid tag-soup; jsoup will create a sensible
 parse tree.

Jsoup is a build dependency for release 1.0 of wagon.
