Bug#1042759: scim-gtk-immodule: assumes windowing system is X11, segfaults if not

I have tried to fix the scim-gtk-immodule upstream but although the x11 window issue is addressed there are still other problems. It seems that it is impossible to get the global coordinates for a widget in wayland so it is difficult to place the "candidate window" alongside with the input cursor in the correct position. I am investigating it and hope that I can find a way to address it soon. Thanks, Tz-Huan

The scim daemon will write back the config file to the disk when exit. However, in some cases the scim daemon exists before the writing is finished. It leads to the empty config file so all the settings are lost. In general it should be very rare but it depends on how the desktop environment system stops the scim daemon. We will try to avoid or mitigate the problem. Thanks again for the bug report. Thanks, Tz-Huan

Bug#747154: Backspace and delete keys dysfunctional in gedit
Hi, I can confirm that it is scim's bug (actually, scim gtk-immodule's bug). The bug came from the migration of scim-bridge, I tried to fix it once but I didn't figure it out at that time. I will try to fix it if my time is available... By the way, there is a workaround for this bug. Since the bug is in scim's gtk-immodule, use XIM should work fine. $ env GTK_IM_MODULE=xim gedit It works fine here. Thanks, Tz-Huan

Hi Takashi Yano, On Fri, Jun 14, 2013 at 6:37 PM, Takashi Yano takashi.y...@nifty.ne.jp wrote: Hi, Tz-Huan, Could you please remove the scim-bridge-agent and scim-bridge-client-gtk then try scim-setup again? I have removed these packages and have tried again, but nothing gets better. Sorry for the wrong information. The scim-bridge is not related to this issue. After all, I have learned the package ii scim-anthy 1.2.7-3 i386 SCIM IMEngine module for Anthy is not provided for Wheezy. It seems that this scim-anthy (1.2.7-3) is from Squeeze which was previously installed. I have confirmed that scim-setup works fine if scim-anthy is removed. If you just want to setup the scim itself (not scim-anthy), there might be a workaround to make the scim-setup work but also keep the scim-anthy installed. Please install scim-anthy again and just delete this file or move it to anywhere else: /usr/lib/scim-1.0/1.4.0/SetupUI/anthy-imengine-setup.so Then, scim-setup won't load anthy's setup module and should work fine. Of course, you cannot setup scim-anthy this way. I wonder why scim-anthy is not provided for Wheezy though it's available for Squeeze, Jessie and Sid. It was a long story... Since Wheezy is released, we cannot add it back to Wheezy easily except backport. However, you can try the scim and scim-anthy from Jessie. They should work in Wheezy at this moment. Should I use ibus instead of scim? While I am the developer of scim, I just use scim. Therefore, I cannot provide any suggestion about that. :-) Thanks, Tz-Huan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? You can send me anything... but please be sure it is under 5 MB, and also give me instructions. Or maybe we should just wait a few days for others to hit the same bug. Sorry for the ambiguity. I mean virtual machine. I use VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/) to setup a virtual machine, and install i386 sid on it to try to re-produce the problem. It is easy to use, the problem is that it is impossible to be less than 5MB. Actually I won't send it to you via email, I'll put it somewhere so that you can download it. How do you think? Yes. The version of scim-modules-socket and scim-gtk-immodule should be the same as scim itself. Also, the scim-anthy/scim-canna/scim-modules-table should be updated to work with the latest scim. Could you please try the packages here? http://www.csie.ntu.edu.tw/~tzhuan/debian/ I see there is a scim 1.4.14-1x1 in experimental, but as I understand from the changelog, this version fixes a FTBS on other platforms than i386. Hi Chris, On Wed, Jul 11, 2012 at 1:28 AM, Physicman c...@physicman.net wrote: Anyway, thanks for your help. Will you upload these packages in unstable soon? I've pinned them on my system to avoid accidental breakage for now. Glad to hear that they work for you! Here is the status of those packages: * scim: my package contains a small fix for 1.4.14-1 FTBFS. The fix is in 1.4.14-1x1, which has been uploaded to experimental. * scim-tables: it has been removed. Now we are trying to re-add it to debiain. * scim-anthy: 1.2.7-4 in sid should work fine for you excepts the configuration UI. There is some bugs in configuration UI. My package contains the fix and I'm discussing it with the maintainer now. Note that my version number is wrong. The next debian version contains the fix might be 1.2.7-5 I think. * scim-canna: I have tried to contact the maintainer to update the patch but no reply yet. Bug#678890: scim kaput
Hi, after the latest upgrade, as of yesterday, my scim does not start anymore. I have this in my .xsession: scim -c simple -e pinyin,chewing,libprime,libprime-imengine-setup,m17n,pinyin,prime,rawcode,socket,table,uim -d We are very sorry about this. The scim-1.4.13-5 is built against gtk3 by default. However, other scim related modules are still built against gtk2. The mixing of gtk2/gtk3 causes the crash of scim. Could you please try not to load the libprime-imengine-setup? e.g., scim -c simple -e pinyin,chewing,libprime,m17n,pinyin,prime,rawcode,socket,table,uim -d If it works, please use it temporarily and we will fix it as soon as possible. We are upgrading all scim related modules now, but it requires some time to finish. The binary files themselves are in the toplevel directory. My apologies for the mistake and ensuing confusion. Since I have only amd64 system, I built amd64 version of scim_1.4.13-0 myself and it works fine. I think these two bugs (632094 and 642929) are fixed as well as this one: http://bugs.debian.org/641140 . Thank you. You might need the newly-introduced scim-gtk3-immodule package. I don't find the link to download the packages but I'd like to confirm that scim-1.4.13 solves the problem. Thanks. Bug#632094: gnome-terminal: fails to input via scim

However, it doesn't work via XIM. GTK3 should still support XIM as well, shouldn't it? Yes, but XIM is not the default input method, you have to select it by hand. I have tested XIM but it didn't work either. When the input method of gnome-terminal is switched to XIM, the hot-key to toggle the input method is useless and there is no menu popup when I click the scim icon on the system tray so that I cannot select any input methods. It tunes out that I don't find a way to change the input method. I have tested scim on XIM-based program such as rxvt-unicode and they work fine.
