Bug#930294: Nautilus slow to respond and consumes 100% CPU resource

2019-06-14 Thread Vikram Vincent
Package: nautilus
Followup-For: Bug #930294

Nautilus found files with duplicate filenames in some libreoffice templates in
the Templates folder and was looping on that. The moment I deleted the
content, nautilus behaviour came back to normal.
Question is why was nautilus looping forever?

I disabled all gnome extensions and reset GNOME applications using
Gnome-tweak
and yet no respite. The problem started with a nautilus upgrade.

Nautilus runs perfectly fine as a new guest user. Now how do I
know what config files got modified to create the problem in the first
place?

I tried removing the ~/.cache/tracker folder and then hard reseting the tracker
but to no
improvement.

htop show nautilus using close to 100% of a processor core.
Do let me know if I can provide more specific info to diagonise the problem
Thanks

The bug is confirmed on my system as well. I need to manually disable the
eth0:avahi in order to be able to access the internet. The problem arises
during bootup when the system is trying to raise the network interfaces.
However, creation of the interface is NOT brief as mentioned as it
continues to survive until the system is shutdown. I have attached the

A fresh install of squeeze does not display the problem (udev 164-3).
I suggest that the work-around be put into the documentation section
related to Lenny-Squeeze upgrade.

udevd is supposed to be killed by

I ran the script by hand but could not find udev being killed.
Looked through the INITRAMFS-TOOLS(8) man page. Other than the ps tool is
there any other way to track the status of udev? Am I missing something?

Bug#593083: udev - system hangs at login screen

2010-08-15 Thread Vikram Vincent
Package: udev
Version: 160-1
Severity: critical
Tags: squeeze sid

Reproduce bug:
Upgrade udev to 160-1, reboot.
During booting, you will get errors saying udeverror- udev already running
acpi_fakekeyd will also not run with an error message.
At the login screen, mouse, keyboard will not work.
If you remove and re-insert usb mouse - mouse will work again but not
laptop keyboard
(have not tried with usb keyboard).

Solution:
Boot into single user mode -
cd /etc/rc2.d/
mv S02udev K02udev
cd /etc/rc3.d/
mv S02udev K02udev
init 6
Works fine except for some acpi problems (will file another bug report for that)

Don't people use proper (dist-)upgrades for upgrading their systems?

No. I have 'testing' set in my sources.list file and simply install
newer versions with Synaptic.

 Already fixed in sid.

Bug#432850: Problem in print pages option

2007-07-12 Thread Vikram Vincent

Package: Iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.4
(Debian-2.0.0.4-0etch1)
Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686
Severity: *important

*Bug Report***
When we need to print a single page we do the following:
1. ctrl-p
2. Print range, select 'Pages' from #1 to #1

The expected result is that only the first page prints.
But along with printing the first page the printer also prints a second
empty page.
This defect has been noted for all values of 'from' $$ 'to' as long as
'from'=='to'.

Bug#428958: Iceweasel crashes/behaves abnormally when given print preview of huge document.

2007-06-29 Thread Vikram Vincent

Package: Iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.4
Debian Etch 4.0
Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686

With the upgrade to the latest version in the Etch repository, it appears
that the problem has been solved.
No abnormal behavior has been observed. I have even installed the latest
iceweasel-dbg pkg and put it through GDB and till now it has passed.
I suggest that this bug be closed.

Bug#428958: Iceweasel crashes/behaves abnormally when given print preview of huge document.

2007-06-15 Thread Vikram Vincent

Package: Iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.3
Severity: Serious

**Bug report**
The application crashes/functions abnormally when given the 'print preview'
command for very large documents eg., 1382 pages.
Description of abnormal functioning: Check the screen format when given the
'print preview' command. When running multiple tabs, all the tabs appear as
if all were given the 'print preview' command. All the tool bars disappeared
save the 'print preview' toolbar.
I was unable to install the ice*-dbg pkg as it is a huge download :-(
