Loging in is possible, desktop is shown. After clicking on some application icon the screen breaks into a lined pattern and mouse and keybord is blocked. Hard reset is required. I have this problem with all kernels from backporst. I did as you said: I installed version 2.12 and the change was that th X server didnot fall, but it restarted into login gdm only instead - so different but still problem. I downgraded back to version 2.9. Problem with failing X server returned. Then I deleted directories .gconf, .gconfd, .gnome2 and .gnome2_private from my home directory. After reboot screensaver works fine, locking and unlocking (ctrl+alt+l) works and the X server runs. So my problem is solved out. Little unuderstandable way - for me :) Thank you Viktor P.S. Bug#482375: On some systems sendmailconfig doesn't recognise local host name

When I run sendmailconfig on _some_ servers I get message: WARNING: local host name (;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached) is not qualified; see cf/README: WHO AM I? As we can see there in brackets is an error message instead of true local host name. This message is returned from dns lookup procedure. But dns lookup has no problem (responses are pretty fast): hostname -f server.example.com host server.example.com server.example.com has address 10.22.19.126 host 10.22.19.126 126.19.22.10.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer server.example.com host -t mx example.com example.com mail is handled by 10 server.example.com. cat /etc/mailname server.example.com That error message appears on some lines in sendmail.cf too: Dj;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached Cw;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached CG;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached Which results in situation when other mail servers refuses e-mail from this server for that nonsense name. I must repair it myself by hands, but Debian has helpful feature - after reboot is sendmail.cf autogenerated again with those error messages inside. I repeat: This problem occurs on some systems only. I can't find rule causing this abnormality. Bug#424640: debian-installer: installer cannot regonize harddrive
I used DVD iso builded by jigdo. The last two isos (may 14 and 10) don't work, but previous (april 30) worked well. I tested the last iso (jigdo may 14) also on another computer based on VIA, and result was the same - Cannot recognize hard drive. I did lsmod immediatelly after booting (when insatller asks for language selection) and the correct module for harddisk appears on list... You advice may work - Install Etch first and then upgrade for Lenny, but it is not long time solution. And - I remind - former dvd iso worked well. Package: debian-installer Version: debian-testing 2007-05-14 Severity: normal Debian-installer says it cannot recognize any harddrive controller in my computer. It falls back to screen with offer kernel modules for harddrive controllers. I used debian-testing-i386-DVD1.iso for installation. This error appeared in DVD image built by jigdo-lite 2007-05-10 and also 2007-05-14. I use Debian Testing on my computer normally without any problem. I try to install Debian testing on different disc partition.
