Bug#901919: this bug hits hard

2018-07-03 Thread Vladimir Zhuravlev
Please at the very least spread the word about the
usercopy_fallback workaround, if the bug cannot be fixed for
now.

I was also affected, it took me several hours to find what
the problem was. There was also an unrelated timidity bug
that killed sound too in the recent update. So yesterday I
updated the system and both video and audio went down hard.

By the way, why is this an "important" bug? I think it
should be classified as "grave" or "critical". It clearly
broke my system, and made the package unusable.

Bug#802544: similar here

2015-10-22 Thread Vladimir Zhuravlev

I am getting the same

xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O
  (Operation not permitted)

error in gdm3 / startx

after the recent xorg update.
Only root can run startx with 7.7+12 on my machine.

Luckily, downgrade to 7.7+7 fixed the regression.

Bug#719554: Remove that font server from your fontpath

2013-08-13 Thread Vladimir Zhuravlev
You are right. I removed those lines, and it does not crash
anymore.

Thank you, Julien.
The bug should be closed, I guess.

Bug#515962: [Fwd: Re: [Pkg-octave-devel] Bug#515962: octave3.0-emacsen: octave mode does not respect tab-width]

2009-02-18 Thread Vladimir Zhuravlev

Hi John,

I set tab-width to 8, but Octave mode does not care about this.
Then I tell it to indent (say, M-C-q), it uses tabs of two
spaces,
which is _not_ nice.

regards,
Vladimir

Looking at other Emacs programming modes, I don't see
that this is the common way to define indentation widths,
so I don't see why Octave mode should do it.

BTW, are you setting tab-width to something other than 8?
I think that is almost always the wrong thing to do,
because then if you share your files with someone else
who doesn't know what your special tab-width setting is,
the file will likely look garbled.

Hi,

I just wanted to add that even making
~/.stardict/stardict.cfg root owned
and stripping writing rights on that file from my user did
not help.
After running for some time stardict starts to ignore the
settings in the config completely.

This is rather annoying.

Bug#486655: gdb

2008-07-02 Thread Vladimir Zhuravlev

Hi,

I installed libgl1-mesa-dri 7.0.3-4, but this did not fix the problem.
I also installed libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg, but this made things worse -- my whole
machine freezes now instead of just xmoto crashing(I ran gdb xmoto).
Maybe I could still ssh to it, but I dont have another computer at home
to check.

best,
Vlad
