Bug#918149: terminator: Unstated Dependency On `dbus-x11`

2019-01-03 Thread Ben Whitney
Package: terminator
Version: 1.90+bzr-1705-1
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,

I am installing Debian on a new system and found that terminator did
not start. Running 'terminator' with no arguments on a command line
resulted in the following being printed to standard error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/terminator", line 105, in
ipc.new_window_cmdline(optionslist)
File "/usr/share/terminator/terminatorlib/ipc.py", line 177, in _exec
bus = dbus.SessionBus()
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/dbus/_dbus.py", line 211, in __new__
mainloop=mainloop)
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/dbus/_dbus.py", line 100, in __new__
bus = BusConnection.__new__(subclass, bus_type, mainloop=mainloop)
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/dbus/bus.py", line 122, in __new__
bus = cls._new_for_bus(address_or_type, mainloop=mainloop)
dbus.exceptions.DBusException:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: /usr/bin/dbus-launch
terminated abnormally without any error message

I believe I already had `dbus` installed. I did not have `dbus-x11`
installed, and installing that fixed the problem.

Here is the content of `/etc/apt/sources.list`:

Bug#681247: aggregate is producing different results with the same list (sorted and unsorted)

2012-07-11 Thread Sean Whitney
Package: aggregate
Version: 1.6-6
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Starting with a list of cidr addresses, I would expect a similar result
regardless of the order
of the entries.

I have two text files https://dl.dropbox.com/u/108553/blacklist.txt and
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/108553/blacklist.sorted.txt, which are the same file
however the sorted file has been processed with

cat blacklist.txt|grep -v ^#|sort -u -t . -k 1,1n -k 2,2n -k 3,3n -k 4,4n
blacklist.sorted.txt

When I run aggregate on the two files I get different results. I am using
aggregate -t for processing.

Thanks,

Sean

Bug#557119: klogd stops logging after a period of less than 24 hours after a reboot

2009-11-19 Thread Sean Whitney
Package: klogd
Version: 1.5-5
Severity: important

After a reboot klogd works as expected. 15 and 1/2 hours later it stopped
logging. Note: It stopped at exactly 4:00am (I couldn't find any cron jobs
that might have caused it to stop exactly then). Since then it will restart
and dump everything in its buffer to my remote syslog host and no more.
Restarting it again will produce the same behavior. Note most log entries are
Shorewall log entries. In the 15 1/2 hours it worked it processed 58599 log
entries.

Bug#519590: snort: Snort now uses all available CPU cycles contiuously

I have had snort installed for several years without any issues. The last
update has changed snort's behavior so now it is utilizing all available
CPU cycles and memory usage. I set the lowmem setting which has helped the
memory, but I haven't figured out how to lower the CPU load. I have
another identical server running ubuntu gutsy with the ubuntu 2.7.0-6 snort
version, without any noticable CPU or memory issues.

The only changes in the Snort engine from 2.7.0-6 to -22 where the changes in
the fragment preprocessor (security issue, see CVE-2008-1804). To see if this
is the issue you can comment out the following lines in the snort.conf
configuration file:

preprocessor frag3_global: max_frags 65536
preprocessor frag3_engine: policy first detect_anomalies

This should disable the preprocessor. Please let me know if the behaviour is
improved after commenting out these lines.

In any case, I would like you to upgrade to 2.7.0-24 to see if this fixes the
issue? 2.7.0-22 is not any longer in the archive.

Thanks,

Javier

Right after I filed the bug I realized there was an update, which I have
since installed.

dpkg -l|grep snort |sed s/flex.*$//
ii snort2.7.0-24
ii snort-common 2.7.0-24
ii snort-common-libraries 2.7.0-24
ii snort-rules-default 2.7.0-24

I did the update, here's what I'm seeing in top

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
15218 snort 20 0 62856 25m 3168 R 49.3 23.691:06.48
snort
15188 snort 20 0 62856 18m 3168 R 48.6 17.491:11.77 snort

With a load average of above 3. So there is still a lot of CPU and
memory usage.
I'm running snort on two interfaces, however before when I was running
one it was still

using all available CPU.

Bug#519590: snort: Snort now uses all available CPU cycles contiuously

2009-03-13 Thread Sean Whitney
Package: snort
Version: 2.7.0-22
Severity: important

I have had snort installed for several years without any issues. The last
update has changed snort's behavior so now it is utilizing all available CPU
cycles
and memory usage. I set the lowmem setting which has helped the memory, but I
haven't figured out how to lower the CPU load. I have another identical server
running ubuntu gutsy with the ubuntu 2.7.0-6 snort version, without any
noticable CPU or memory issues.

I was also concerned that an older configuration file might cause issues, so I
purged snort and associated packages, removed the older configuration files and
reinstalled snort, with the same behavior.

Bug#387174: Acknowledgement (snmpd: SNMPD fails at 6:30 am daily)

2006-10-13 Thread Sean Whitney

Hi Sean,

I have repeated entried like this every day since upgrading. Cricket
graphs confirm that at this time snmpd stops responding. This webpage
seems to display a similar discussion which makes me think it is related
 to the upstream package.

Do you have dynamic interfaces (like ppp0) on that machine?

I am using openVPN2.0 and this does seem related to this interface.

Does it help to rename or delete /var/lib/snmp/snmpd.conf?

I renamed this file, and it recreated it several hours later

Sean

Thanks,
Jochen

seems to display a similar discussion which makes me think it is related
to the upstream package.

Bug#351750: azureus: Azureus will not start with new version of libswt-gtk-3.1-jni

2006-02-06 Thread Sean Whitney
Package: azureus
Version: 2.3.0.6-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

I don't know whether this should be filed with libswt-gtk-3.1-jni or
azureus, but I'm filing it here initially.

After upgrading libswt-gtk-3.1-jni today, I noticed that azureus
wouldn't start.

I received this error.

This patch to /usr/bin/azureus, is a work around.
