Hi, there is a conditional statement testing whether mplib is present, thus metafun will work if mpiv can be used and mpii is not needed. This means that it sometimes works and sometimes not. I have not tried on my computer. Bug#907784: [tex-live] repeated xelatex call destroys pdf output
Hi,
I tried again and it really works even with the fontenc package so it might
be something Debian specific. I use Fedora with TL from TUG, not the rpm's.

Bug#907784: [tex-live] repeated xelatex call destroys pdf output
Hi all,
the sample file is intended for XeLaTeX but requests the fontenc package to
encode unicode to the T1 encoding, which is wrong, it cannot work. As a
result it probably writes an illegal code into the .aux file and XeLaTeX
then crashes without completing the output to PDF (and the most important
xref tables are close to the end of the PDF file). Just removing
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc} solves the problem and it works fine on my
computer.

downstream at Debian we got a bug report concerning missing diacritics.
I confirmed that it is also a problem with an up2date TL2011 installation,
so it is nothing specific to TL2009 which we ship in Debian:

If you compile the latex below to DVI, and then to PDF using dvipdfmx,
dvipdfmx produces the following error and the resulting PDF contains
no diacritics.
With xdvipdfmx in TL 2010 as well as 2011 I get the same error and the
resulting PDF file is unreadable. I know that seac is used to create
composite accented characters and the syntax very restricted. Maybe
some font experts can help (Karel Piska?)
The font works fine in pdflatex.

It seems that the PDF file written by xdvipdfmx is really damaged and
some viewers may be able to recover at least partially.
The font works fine in pdflatex.

Time for change. The inputenc package makes use of active characters
and multibyte characters come in pieces. If your macro contains
\futurelet\somechar\dosomething then \somechar may contain a part of a
character. another example, suppose that you redefine \chapter so that
it changes the first character into an initial by:

Now #1 may contain just a part of a character and using this part will
cause an error. That's why I cannot use inputenc even with Czech, I
need above mentioned constructs in my LaTeX macros and the same macro
must work both with accented and non-accented characters. Moreover,
non-accented characters can be compared by \if, multibyte characters
and active characters cannot.

THis patch actually looks quite reasonable to me, so what about
including it in our texlive repository?

What about CVS and RCS subdirectories (no initial dot in their name)?
Also it may be more efficient to not have alternatives starting with a
common character, something like
\.\(bzr\|git\|hg\|svn\)\|CVS\|RCS\|_darcs
CVS contains just a few files, namely Entries, Repository, Root,
Template. There is just a small risk of filename clash with something
meaningful. CVS contents are currently included in ls-R and I have not
found any problem so far while svn and git may cause problems.

As a matter of fact, cspsfont.doc does not contain any license at all. I have GPL version 2, June 1991 in the same directory. Probably I chose it because authors of other parts of CSTeX used it. The installation script, cspsfont.ins, does not contain any license either. Thus the message is the default from docstrip because I did not redefine it. As far as translation is concern, I do not think that it would be appreciated. I liked the tool 11 years ago when I created because development was easier for me than studying fontinst. I am afraid that translation of this obsolete tool is just waisting time and the only meaningful solution is to change the copyright of generated files.
