Dear Maintainer,

This app is evil. Eevry 'upgrade' is worse, especially for webmail access.

Users might consider tossing this browser, as a longtime debian user I
am concerneced I might quickly toss gmail and chromium in the garbage.

I won't try to explain how they are mining personal ino, it's so daMN OBVIOUS.

It was very pleasant. Thank you.

Too much cleanup of pkgs installed for no reason, no big deal, used to it...

I think installer logs are attached if not I'll follow upand attach them.

The attachment file /var/log/installer/installer.tar size is bigger than the
maximum of 10485760
bytes: reduce its size else the report cannot be sent

Much obliged, this very brand new computer is very happy with bookworm.
I really appreciate the free os.

Bug#1042399: I confirm there is a problem

2023-08-21 Thread Debian User
Hi

I am new to this Debian mailing lists and have started to learn what
and how things are working here because I want to support Debian in
some way in future.

About this issue:

The MariaDB Website say there is even a newer version "MariaDB 10.11.5
Stable (GA)" released.

https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-10-11-5-changelog/

I am not sure this issue here is fixed with the newer version.

What would be the right way to report this to the issue? Should I just
post it to the mailing list or directly to some responsible person?

Sorry for asking you

best, Carsten.

Bug#767682: Debian Bug #767682 - D-I: Installer Hangs on Re-Formatting Ext4 Partition

2016-01-29 Thread Debian User
This is a nasty bug! It took us by surprise. We were using netboot.tar.gz
installer build=20150422+deb8u2 and successfully installed Debian 8.1 and 8.2
prior to end of November/December 2015. It had failed to install in the same
environment for the past couple of weeks or since about January 20, 2016.

The pxe installs are again successful by downloading netboot.tar.gz
build=20150422+deb8u3 even installing on top of an old Debian system.

Bug#773586: phoneuid: doesn't start or crashes during startup - probably due to problem in phonefsod

2014-12-20 Thread Debian user
Package: phoneuid
Version: 0.1+git20130505-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

This is sort of a continuation of #766114 which to me seems rightfully closed.

There are four things to note in advance please:
1. I'm not sure whether phoneuid is the correct package to file this report
against. It could be anywhere in this chain:
fso-deviced - phonefsod - phoneuid - phoneui-apps

2. apt doesn't install recommends or suggests on this system by default:

# cat /etc/apt/apt.conf
APT::Install-Recommends "0";
APT::Install-Suggests "0";

3. The automatic screen-blanking that's done by (I think) phonefsod works fine,
however the lock screen with the slider (by phoneui-apps) doesn't come up.

4. I tested this first with sysvinit, then with systemd as the init system, but
didn't see any differences. All of the following outputs are with systemd.

After installing phoneui-apps and trying to start any of the apps (e.g.
phoneui-quick-settings), no app window comes up.
There's an strace output further down.

The problem seems to be that phoneuid is either not starting or dying in the
process:

Bug#742775: openssh-server: Please re-enable btmp logging

2014-03-27 Thread Debian User
Package: openssh-server
Version: 1:6.5p1-6
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Debian bug #314956 disabled logging to /var/log/btmp due to
security concern over the file permissions of /var/log/bmtp.

Those permissions have changed now so the rationale behind
bug #314956 is no longer applicable. btmp should no longer
be disabled.

Please re-enable btmp logging in the openssh-server package.

Bug#732728: quassel-core: 1024 bit key is not secure

2013-12-20 Thread Debian User
Package: quassel-core
Version: 0.9.2-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

When installing quassel-core a 1024 bit private RSA key is generated,
but a 1024 bit key is considered not sufficient for quite some time now.
In the postinst script the nbits value is explicitly set to 1024 and I
see no reason why. According to man:req
"The argument takes one of several forms. rsa:nbits, where nbits is the
number of bits, generates an RSA key nbits in size. If nbits is omitted,
i.e. -newkey rsa specified, the default key size, specified in the
configuration file is used."

So by not specifying the nbits part, the default (currently 2048) is
used, so the following patch does exactly that.

Bug#715222: DSA-2720-1 breaks xul-ext-adblock-plus (2.1-1)

2013-07-10 Thread Debian User
Stable is still broken.

Also how will plugin upgrades will be handled because I think the ESR cycle
will upgrade again in ~5 months.

Bug#715222: DSA-2720-1 breaks xul-ext-adblock-plus (2.1-1)

2013-07-06 Thread Debian User
I made a mistake about the compatibility. I was looking at the 2.2.1
revision. However, I am not completely wrong if you look at the following
revision:

https://hg.adblockplus.org/adblockplus/rev/c8cfe3956af2

This is three revisions after upstream's 2.1.1 release. The three
revisions are trivial, one is a comment change and the others are simply
changing version numbers in the source. The following are links to
upstream in order ascending:

   - https://hg.adblockplus.org/adblockplus/rev/080a46e3d6d2
   - https://hg.adblockplus.org/adblockplus/rev/cb334b336096
   - https://hg.adblockplus.org/adblockplus/rev/c8cfe3956af2

So instead of changing to 20.0a1 you only need to change the break
requirement to 17.0a1.

Bug#715222: DSA-2720-1 breaks xul-ext-adblock-plus (2.1-1)

2013-07-06 Thread Debian User
Package: xul-ext-adblock-plus
Version: 2.1-1

The latest update of icedove 10.0.12-1 to 17.0.7-1~deb7u1 breaks
xul-ext-adblock-plus.

aptitude show xul-ext-adblock-plus

Breaks: adblock-plus (< 1.1.1-2), iceape (> 2.13~a1+), iceape (< 2.5),
icedove (> 16.0~a1+), icedove (< 8.0), iceweasel (< 8.0)

Upstream indicates Thunderbird 9.0 to 20.0a1 is compatible with this
version (2.1-1). I suggest changing this package to allow 20.0a1 like
upstream or at least 17 so not to break the new icedove package.

Thanks.

Bug#679613: xorg: Virtual mouse (shift+numlock) stops working after upgrading from squeeze to wheezy

2012-07-07 Thread Happy Debian User

Hello,

Le 30/06/2012 09:40, HDU a écrit :

Recently I upgrade my system to wheezy, and Shift + NumLock no longer
activates the virtual mouse (move cursor and click with the numeric keypad).
Google does not help me on this one.

By googling "xorg shift numlock" (instead of "wheezy xorg virtual
mouse", which gave me no leads), I found a solution to my problem. And I
learned that you english speakers call it "mouse keys", and not "virtual
mouse".

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=904880

Freedesktop decide to remove this function by default. I was not warned
by Debconf. And effectively, KDE reactivated it. BTW, I don't understand
why it work in kdm and sawfish for some users of the Debian User French ML.

To reactivate it, I put this in xorg.conf:

Section "InputClass"
Identifier  "Keyboard Defaults"
MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
Option  "XkbLayout" "fr"
Option  "XkbVariant" "bepo7"
Option  "XkbOptions"
"keypad:pointerkeys,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"

EndSection

I really struggled with this problem. I think Debconf should warn the
user, as for the removal of Ctrl+Alt+Backspace shortcut.

Maybe this bug sould be forwarded to the package xkb-data, since it
seems contain the file in question:

"I think the file /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/pc is missing a piece.
Changing the following line:
key  { [ Num_Lock ] };
back to as it was in version 2.0.1:
key  { [ Num_Lock, Pointer_EnableKeys ] };
brings back the mousekeys functionality for me."

But I don't know how to redirect a bug, and if I'm allowed to do so.

Thank for your attention,
HDU.

Bug#672458: installation-reports: IPv6 privacy extensions should be enabled by default

2012-05-11 Thread a debian user
Package: installation-reports
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I know that I can enable the IPv6 privacy extensions after the installation of
debian.

But I think it is important that I can enable the IPv6 privacy extensions for
the installation in the debian installer.

The problem is that debian sends my unique MAC-dress to some servers during and
after
the installation of debian if the privacy extensions are disabled.

So please include the feature to the debian installer that the debian installer
will ask
the user if he wants to enable the IPv6 privacy extensions.
If the user wants to build a server with the debian installer, he do not have
to enable the
IPv6 privacy extensions.

Yours faithfully,

your debian user

Bug#572820: dmsetup: Man page broken, does not give full argument syntax

2010-03-06 Thread Debian User
Package: dmsetup
Version: 2:1.02.27-4
Severity: important

The man page for demsetup fails to describe arguments,
such as the "--showkeys" in "dmsetup table --showkeys".
>From what I gather this seems to be a pass-through
argument to the dm-crypt target, i.e. dmsetup can take
target specific oprtions without mentioning the target
device. THIS URGENTLY NEEDS TO BE DOCUMENTED!

Currently this is not only completely undocumented,
but the man-page suggests this syntax is not even
available. As dmsetup does not have a "--help" output,
the information in the man-page is critical.

If you do not want to document it in the dmsetup man-page
itself, then at least you absolutely and clearly need to
describe the possibility, give an example and refer to the
documentation for all known targets under "SEE ALSO".
Anything else is badly broken and makes the feature
(which is needed, somebody just had an urgent need on
the dm-crypt mailing list) unusable.

Hi,

I never managed to solve this, and I've moved on to another computer
now. The problem was fairly obscure anyway, I guess you can just close
the bug.

Best regards,

 Registering /dv/cap1/c1022.dv with the tracker
The program 'kino' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 2620334 error_code 1 request_code 252 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Thanks in advance!

Bug#406934: Bug ?? in the 'debian.css' file on Debian website used by 'gucharmap.html' on the gucharmap (1:1.4.2-1) package web-page

2007-01-14 Thread Debian User

Version: current (NOW)

I tried the 'reportbug' program, but it aborts with an error message
when I enter 'www.debian.org' as the bug category.

The "bug" is described bolow.

File: debian.css on Debian's web site [gucharmap (1:1.4.2-1) package
web-page], line 229:

#navbar .hidecss, .hidecss {
  display: none;
}

causes konqueror 2.2.2 to crash.
The problem is the 2nd '.hidecss' (after the comma).
I know that Woody is a bit old, and that its version of konqueror is not
perfect, and DON'T know if this is a 'debian.css' bug or a konqueror's
one; I however thought

this could interest you.

Bug#392695: Bug 392695

2006-10-14 Thread Debian user
Hello;

I have read this and will be as helpful as I can, if the answers are not
clear please help me to provide the correct info.

My exact configuration of ssh tunnel is this;

I use a remote service, www.cotse.net, and I have created in my home
directory a .ssh folder which contains:
Host cotse
User mll
HostName tunnel1.cotse.net
LocalForward 9000 news.astraweb.com:23

I connect to the tunnel server by opening a terminal window and type:
ssh news and the server responds with a request for my password, which I
enter and then start pan. Before the upgrade pan would connect and
download all the headers in the groups I am subscribed too after the
upgrade neither connects or times out.

I have pan configured to connect to localhost and port 9000

I am not sure how to give you this: The output of pan with --debug
enabled

I have supplied back traces for crashed packages before but not those
that hang.

Please provide at least the following information:
- The output of pan with --debug enabled
- The exact configuration of your ssh tunnel setup

If at all possible a backtrace/strace of the hanging pan process would be
useful as well.

No.

I did not notice that the wacom input driver went into an seperate
package and was not built in anymore.
So the solution was to build/install the wacom_drv.o driver from the
linuxwacom project.

Bye.

Bug#360381: linux-image: root 2812 1930 0 14:00 ? 00:00:00 /USR/SBIN/CRON

2006-04-01 Thread Debian User
Package: linux-image
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Something is causing entries in ps ie. /USR/SBIN/CRON which increase in number
over time.
 This condition does not allow a shutdown or reboot for resetting the system.
 The system must be powered off to recover.
 I have seen as many as 680 of these processes.
 Machine does not lock totally but some things do not work like su and starting
a new ssh session.
 I can not log into the desktop after about 10 minutes after power off/on.
 I am eliminating programs one by one to determine which one may be the
problem, however
 the larger issue is the inability to reboot and having to power off. The
system should
 be recoverable and immune to a program creating hung/zombie processes. Also ps
 reports /USR/SBIN/CRON which does not exist in the system.

Bug#321409: Problems gone after changing hard drive

2006-03-17 Thread debian-user
The first drive in my Inspiron 500m was the the included 4200 RPM
Hitachi drive. It had the problems listed here.

I received a new identical drive from Dell, but the problems didn't
disappear. This made me believe that the chipset was the source of this
problem.

Until now. A couple of weeks ago I switched to a new 7200 RPM Hitachi
drive bought from a third party. All DMA problems disappeared.

There can, as I see it, be two reasons for this:

1) I received two faulty hard drives from Dell.
2) The chipset had problems with the hard drive models I received from
Dell, but not with other drives.

I don't know which it is. I had no problems with the "faulty" hard
drives when I tested them with other fairly equal computers (one year
older 500m and one year newer 510m). Maybe a overly sensitive chipset?

Anyway, I'm just happy I have a working computer again.

Henrik

Bug#354600: hplip: Same purge problem

2006-03-08 Thread debian user
Package: hplip
Version: 0.9.7-4

After hp-probe failed to do anything with my parallel port (inrecognized uri

I'm getting the same error messages mentioned by the previous reporter.

Adding the -x the the postrm script, I'm getting:

All packages are from unstable as far as I can see. I still need
libcairo2 from testing to run eclipse.

I solve this right now by putting /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2.2.2 from
libcairo2/testing into ~/lib, and running eclipse with

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$HOME/lib/ eclipse

Best regards,
Henrik

Bug#335934: linux-source-2.6.13: preemptive kernel (sometimes) doesnt suspend to ram

2005-10-26 Thread Debian User
Package: linux-source-2.6.13
Version: 2.6.13-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I tried compiling a laptop kernel from the linux-source-2.6.13 2.6.13-1.
Unlike the debian precompiled kernel I tried the most agressive
preemption option. The resulting kernel worked for some time, but then I
installed the xfree synaptics driver.
>From then on, the process writing "mem" to the /sys/power/state would
stay in uninterriptible sleep until system shutdown (did not try to go
to runlevel 2 or something like that). Simply restarting X did not help.
A kernel without preemption or X without synaptics driver works.
The machine is an old Dell laptop with BX chipset.

I am not sure if the Debian patches affect this behavior in any way.
I will try to test with a vanilla kernel later.

Thanks

Michal Suchanek

Bug#320216: logwatch: pb with compressed samba logfiles

2005-07-27 Thread Debian User
Package: logwatch
Version: sarge
Severity: minor

/etc/logwatch/conf/logfiles/samba is configured like that:

LogFile = samba/*

thus permitting inclusion of gzipped files in the mail that appear
as binary data! The files log.winbind, log.smbd and log.nmbd are rotated
and compressed by default.

Solution:

LogFile = samba/*[^.gz]

and use an "Archive" line if needed.

Bug#310624: gcc-3.3: Old code is not compiled with gcc > 2.95 (with error: initializer element is not constant)

2005-05-24 Thread Debian User
Package: gcc-3.3
Version: 1:3.3.5-12
Severity: minor

Hi folks,
I have a bulk of code which doesn't want to compile with new gcc 3.x.x

The problem is reduced to following example:

-
$ cat test2.c
struct _struct1 {
int i;
int j;
};
struct _struct2 {
int a;
int b;
};
union _union1 {
struct _struct1 struct1;
struct _struct2 struct2;
};
static union _union1 union_table[] = {
(union _union1)
(struct _struct1)
{
i: 1,
j: 2,
}
};
int main(void)
{
return 0;
}

This is not my code, please don't blame me with it!

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:tmp$ gcc-2.95 test2.c
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:tmp$ gcc-3.3 test2.c
test2.c:20: error: initializer element is not constant
test2.c:20: error: (near initialization for `union_table[0]')

As you see it compiles without errors with gcc-2.95 but failes with
gcc-3.3

Regards,
Andrei

Bug#305747: samba: 'hide special files' option hides *all* files in 3.0.14a-1

2005-04-21 Thread Debian User
Package: samba
Version: 3.0.14a-1
Severity: important

After upgrading to 3.0.14a-1 suddenly all my users home directories
appear empty, both on Linux and Windows clients. I traced this to the
'hide special files' option; commenting that line out and restarting
makes everything reappear again.

The smb.conf page states:

hide special files (S)
This parameter prevents clients from seeing special files such
as sockets, devices and fifo's in directory listings.

Default: hide special files = no

My home dirs are clearly not falling in the category 'special files' nor
do any of the current contents.

Attached my fairly simple smb.conf (with the line in question commented
out). Just for clarity: the problem appeared after upgrading samba from
3.0.11-1.

Bug#295115: xboard doesn't handle xterm not being installed

2005-02-13 Thread Debian User
Package: xboard
Version: 4.2.6-2.1
Severity: normal

I do not have xterm installed on my debian system.
If I choose menu Help,"info xterm" or Help,"man xterm" nothing happens, apart
from this error message in the console:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xboard
sh: line 1: xterm: command not found

I have had a look through the source code and xboard just spawns xterm
without checking that this file exists in the path and without checking
whether the call completed successfully.

So xboard needs either to check for the existence of xterm and popup an
error message if it doesn't exist (as the user would not see the
console error message unless they had started xboard from a console) or
alternatively spawn /etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulator instead of xterm
which would be better as it would prevent a dependency on an arbitrary
package. I assume that all x-terminal-emulators will respond
appropriately to -e command line parameter (x-terminal-emulator -e $command).
I have tested this with konsole and gnome-terminal-emulator and they
both do at any rate.

As a consequnce xboard should suggest either xterm or x-terminal-emulator,
and info and man-db as well.
