Bug#985255: Systemd initiates fsckd for no apparent reason

2021-03-15 Thread haagmj
Package: systemd

Version: 247.3-1

Every few system restarts fsckd runs and fails with the following error message:

[TIME] timed out waiting for device /dev/sdb2

I am subsequently dropped into a terminal session (busybox?)

There are no problems with the filesystem or the hard disk (SSD) in question.

Pressing Ctl-Alt-Del almost always results in a successful reboot. Rarely,

the system will halt again with the same error message requiring yet

another reboot. In any case, the system eventually boots without error.

This problem first appeared on a hard disk that has since been replaced.

Manually initiating fsck on /dev/sdb2 has never resulted in an error

on either the old disk or the new one. Occasionally, systemd reports an

error indicating missing system files (/dev/sda1). Again, manually

running fsck against the referenced partition has never resulted in an error.

I tried sending this via reportbug, but I've never received an email reply

indicating it was received. I was previously running Debian Buster without

issue. I upgraded to Debian Bullseye several months ago, but did not

experience this problem until sometime after the initial upgrade.

If you require additional information, feel free to contact me with your

request.

Bug#965241: Previous email on this topic

My previous report of a working Pulseaudio on a recent upgrade from Buster to
Bullseye was incorrect. I'm not sure what happened. I rebooted my PC after the
upgrade and was met with a GRUB rescue prompt. I reinstalled GRUB from a rescue
CD and all appeared to be well. However, today after booting up my PC sound was
completely broken. Games, system sounds, etc. The only sound that was emitted
was a repetitive, low volume, distortion in all cases. I had to perform a
system rollback to restore sound.

Bug#965241: Pulseaudio is not the problem as originally reported

Pulseaudio is not the problem. The original bug report was posted after a clean
install of Bullseye. I subsequently performed a simple upgrade from Buster to
Bullseye (NOT "full-upgrade") and Pulseaudio was working fine. Both front panel
microphone and OSS sound output were working.

Bug#965241: No sound from microphone, no sound from osspd

2020-07-18 Thread haagmj
Package: pulseaudio

Version: 13.0-5

After a recent upgrade from stable (Buster) to testing (Bullseye) I lost sound
from my front panel microphone. Pulseaudio detects the microphone, but there is
no sound coming from it. Changing the volume settings had no effect. Hardware
follows:

ASUS Prime B-350-Plus motherboard with Realtek ALC 887-VD2 audio chip

I also did a clean install of bullseye on an old Dell laptop. Sound from the
onboard microphone was badly distorted, but sound from an external microphone
(mic jack) was fine.

Lastly, there is no sound during game play on an old game requiring OpenAL (via
osspd).

None of the above problems exist with Buster or with Ubuntu 18.04, but the same
problems exist on Ubuntu 20.04

Bullseye installations were done as a simple upgrade from Buster, as a
full-upgrade from Buster, and as a clean install. All Ubuntu installations were
clean installs. Kernels on all systems were stock as were all installed
applications. No backported programs were installed.

The referenced bug report can be removed. The problem turned out to be hardware
related involving TOSLINK.
