Bug#994187: squidguard: Squidguard cannot access DATADIR as a symlink

2021-09-14 Thread Tim Herwig

Hello Joachim,

We distribute the configuration of Squidguard to different systems where
DATADIR is not always in the same place and therefore we have solved it
with a symlink.

Have a nice day.

Tim

I think it is untypically using a symlink for DATADIR. What is the reason?

Bug#994187: squidguard: Squidguard cannot access DATADIR as a symlink

2021-09-13 Thread Tim Herwig
Package: squidguard
Version: 1.6.0-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,
* The problem exists on Debian 10 and Debian 11 when Squidguard tries to access
DATADIR as a symlink.
* I have fixed the problem by changing it from (file /usr/sbin/update-
squidguard line 75)
 find ${DATADIR} -type d
 to
 find ${DATADIR}/ -type d
* And now it is possible that Squidguard can access symlinks in DATADIR.

This also happens with qemu-system-ppc64le. The warnings can be avoided by
using "-M pseries-3.1" but this has no effect on the crash.

Bug#769028: rawtherapee: SEGV in rtengine::HaldCLUT::correct()

2014-11-10 Thread Björn A . Herwig
Package: rawtherapee
Version: 4.2-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Film simulation is a great tool to instantly get your
colors right. That's why I'm experimenting a lot with
it. Unfortunately there seems to be a problem:
- Entering a directory with RAWs using film simulation
 in their pp3s, or
- changing the simulated film in before-after view, or
- going from editor back to file list
sometimes crashes the application. In that case, it will
often crash again, as soon as the thumbnail for the
affected image becomes visible or the image itself
is double-clicked.

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

It might be also related to cropping, as it only
started to happen after a crop was applied.

I already removed the whole cache, but that made
it effectivly crash more often.

I hope this has already been fixed upstream, so
it won't take to long to find the culprit.

Best,
Björn

is this bug still (or again?) present in Debian Squeeze?

I think I hit this problem multiple times during last week, getting
something like:

After finding this bugreport I disabled ipv6 on the server which seems
to fix the issue.

Bug#637631: sudo touch /etc/pm/power.d/readahead

2011-08-18 Thread Björn A. Herwig
There might be some way to setup pm-utils to not do anything on this
 raid array.

Yeah, read the manpage for pm-powersave.

sudo touch /etc/pm/power.d/readahead

That solved the issue! Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure how it's related to xfpm, but the fact
that the “spin down disk on ac” setting didn't work, there might be a
bug there, which I'll try to investigate.

Though it might just be that starting xfpm “pings” upower about the
system state and that it somehow activates the powersave mode (not sure
why though).

No, it's calling the scipts with false as parameter, which means tune for
performance. Though the readahead script has a negative impact on my RAID0.

Regards,
Yves-Alexis

Thanks a lot,
Björn!

Bug#637631: Severe RAID0 performance drop after starting xfce4-power-manager

2011-08-13 Thread Björn A. Herwig
Package: xfce4-power-manager
Version: 1.0.10-4
Severity: important

Whenever xfce4-power-manager is started, the RAID0 performance drops severely:

$ sudo hdparm -t /dev/md0

/dev/md0:
Timing buffered disk reads: 624 MB in 3.01 seconds = 207.47 MB/sec
$ xfce4-power-manager
$ sudo hdparm -t /dev/md0

/dev/md0:
Timing buffered disk reads: 452 MB in 3.01 seconds = 150.33 MB/sec

Furthermore it seems that the rootfs gets remounted showing the following line
in dmesg:

[ 36.443770] EXT4-fs (sda1): re-mounted. Opts:
discard,errors=remount-ro,commit=0

The problem shows on two of my systems, both running an up-to-date Testing
with EXT4 rootfs on SSD and /home with XFS on RAID0 (via device-mapper) HDDs.

The performance is only regained after reboot, stopping xfce4-power-manager
has no effect.

Changing spin-down-on-ac
in .config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml has no
effect, too.

The performance drop could be related to AAM, as I get the same drop when
setting hdparm -M128 for the RAID disks.

As an interim solution I removed xfce4-power-manager from autostart.

Best,
Björn

Bug#637631: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#637631: Severe RAID0 performance drop after starting xfce4-power-manager

That looks like a behavior from laptop-mode or upower hooks. Can you
check if they're installed, and if there's log from them when xfpm
starts? Itmight be worth running xfpm from command line with debug
options.

Bug#579702: mkinitramfs fails on mylex raid devices (DAC960)

2010-04-29 Thread Claus Herwig
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.94.4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

mkinitramfs fails to generate a initrd file for root filesystems on an
old mylex raid controller (kernel module DAC960).

In my case this breaks installation for lenny (5.0.3) on a FJS Primergy
server - as this bug is not only in the mentioned version but also in
0.92 which ships on the lenny install cd: The installer can boot, as the
old kernel module is still present. But the base install step fails when
it tries to generate the initrd.

The error in detail, when invoking mkinitramfs manually with -x

So the reason is that mkinitramfs fails to derive the correct block
device notation from the root device as the DAC960 driver uses a strange
format for it.

Once figured out, this is easily corrected. Please find a short patch
for /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions attached.

Thank you,

Bug#579313: new upstream features

2010-04-26 Thread Claus Herwig
Package: digitemp
Version: 3.5.0ds1-1
Severity: wishlist

There is a new version 3.6.0 upstream for some time now. It has a useful
new feature for all multisensors: With parameter -A you can get the AD
voltage value directly, so you can use all types of sensors, not only
temp/humidity as in older versions.

So could you please update the debian package?

Thank you,
 Claus

Bug#419209: lvm2: Hangs during snapshot creation

2009-11-02 Thread Claus Herwig
found 419209 2.02.39-7
severity 419209 critical
thanks

Any progress on this bug?
Any hints where to start looking for a cause?

Otherwise this unfortunately is another me too bugreport for now. I'm
getting hit by this bug on a production machine, which is extremely
annoying as it causes the whole machine to hang.

This is more or less reproducable: I rely on daily snapshot creation for
backup purposes. The system doesn't hang on every snapshot creation, but
it doesn't run for more than three or four days whithout hang.

Concerning the severity, citing debian policy
(http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer.en.html)
critical
makes unrelated software on the system (or the whole system) break,
or causes serious data loss, or introduces a security hole on systems
where you install the package.

Doubtlessly this is the case for more than one or two people. So please
stop playing the severity game and lets start fixing this bug. It's
original report is more than two years old now. Thank you.

Some more information:

I've got a second, almost identical machine (concerning mainboard,
kernel version, debian version, filesystem setup...), which does lvm
snapshots without any problem.

Source volumes for the snapshots are always XFS, no MD devices involved.

The machine which hangs has a significantly higher filesystem activity
on some of the volumes than the one which runs the snapshots ok. For now
this is the only significant difference I can produce.

Hanging machine has 1x Quadcore Opteron, working machine has 2x QC
Opterons. But I don't think this makes any difference.

Any further hints are appreciated...

umh, this is certainly non-trivial on second thoughts.

What I've found when trying to figure it out:

Does it break general backward compatibility? Yes, it does.
- - Unassigned IPs: old --, new database treats them (mostly) as
belonging to the last preceding assigned IP range.
- - IANA reserved IPs: old --, US or I0, L0 (as you mentioned),
new ZZ
- - some new ccTLDs: RS (serbia), ME (montenegro) for example

Does it work with awstats anyway? Yes, it does.
- - ZZ gets reported properly on its own line as unknown
- - RS and ME get listed as unknown, each on their own line
- - awstats could list I0 (not L0) as local network host (this is in
/usr/share/awstats/lib/domains.pm).

Does it break handling of local IPs?
I wouldn't say so, because handling of local IPs is more or less
incorrect with the old version anyway. 172.16.0.0/12 and a lot of other
special blocks are wrong/missing in the old database. See
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3330#section-3
http://www.iana.org/assignments/ipv4-address-space
for details.

What to do?
I would support your first solution. Patch the test, document the
changes, forget about the obscure special cases mentioned in these
iana/ietf documents.

Of course, a more satisfying solution could be to patch the
webgeo2ipct.pl to distinguish between the different types of reserved IP
ranges (private use, loopback, link local, multicast...) correctly and
to recognize unallocated space properly. But this still wouldn't be
backward compatible or improve compatibility with awstats. And honestly,
I doubt that it would be real useful to anybody ;-)

Bug#494285: mylvmbackup exits with error on empty prefix

2008-08-08 Thread Claus Herwig

Package: mylvmbackup
Version: 0.9-1
Severity: normal

By default mylvmbackup uses the prefix backup for naming the
compressed backup file and as leading directory for the backed up files.

If you want to get backups without any prefix and try to set
prefix=
in /etc/mylvmbackup.conf, mylvmbackup exits with an error:
Error: Please make sure Temp dir (/snap//) is empty.

The Temp dir was empty before starting mylvmbackup, but the aborted
backup leaves a directory

mountdir/-pos
behind.

Other perhaps relevant parameters in mylvmbackup.conf:
xfs=1
mountdir=/snap/
relpath=/var/lib/mysql/
backuptype=tar
(omitting the trailing slashes doesn't change the error)

Seems like this happens because of mylvmbackup trying to store the two
internal files

*_mysql.pos
*_my.cnf
in a special subdirectory. (Why is that?)

Package: mylvmbackup

Package installs a default version of /etc/mylvmbackup.conf which
contains full path names of used external utilities in section [tools].

In this section the line

So if you don't have appropriate paths set (e.g. when invoking
mylvmbackup from crontab) mylvmbackup complains about the missing lvs
command.

Bug#413087: Kernel with bcm43xx

2007-03-02 Thread Herbert . Herwig

package: bcm43xx-fwcutter (1:005-2) [contrib]

Dear friends,
some weeks ago I posted this in an userforum. A lot of reading, but no
answer / solution to the problem . I'd like to use my laptop normally under
DEBIAN, but the wireless-LAN issue keeps me from doing so.
I upgraded DEBIAN last weekend , but the problem stays the same . Is there
any solution to make my bcm4318 Broadcom chip not only running, but make it
useful.
Thanks herbert herwig

I succesfully installed Debiann SID on my Amilo 1655g and was able to
make the wlan run.
I run wpa-supplicant with wpa2.
First it seems that I could not get any IP-Adress from my AVM-FRITZ
router, but then I realized that there was an attenuation low
problem.
Putting the laptop directly beneath my latop -it works.
But it works only for a distance of about 1 meter - so it isn't
really usable.
With that other OS I can do my work at the other end of my flat -
more than 12 meters.
Any suggestions on how to raise the sensibility of the antenna ?
Tried different bcmw5l native driver - no effect.

Bug#398296: Omit --with-dv1394

2006-12-13 Thread herwig
Hi,

is it possible to omit the --with-dv1394 configure option, as dv1394 seems to
be deprecated (replaced by raw1394) and does not support AVC?

Bug#363556: missing dependency causes java exeption

2006-04-19 Thread Claus Herwig
Package: fop
Version: 1:0.20.5-8
Priority: minor

FOP requires some X libraries (at least libXp.so) to be present for some
(all?) rendering tasks. They're used by the java.awt package, which
failes with a fuzzy exeption if they're not present:

Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError at
org.apache.fop.layout.LineArea.addSpacedWord(LineArea.java:1520)
 at org.apache.fop.layout.LineArea.addText(LineArea.java:924)
 at org.apache.fop.fo.FOText.addRealText(FOText.java:278)
...

At least in a server environment the X libs aren't always present, so
IMHO a dependency to the libxp6 package should be added.

Greets,
 Claus Herwig
