2011-02-06 Thread kA kA
Dear KiBi,

below you find the desired backtrace.
The symbol table for the most interesting part is missing however (#0).
Note that I am running the current squeeze distribution and thus my
fglrx-driver has version 1:10-9-3.

I hope this bit of information helps.

Best regards,
Ralf

Bug#608189: Xorg -configure crashes on system with on-board and dedicated AMD graphics processor

2010-12-28 Thread kA kA
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Severity: normal

Dear all,

first of all thank you for all your invested time and efforts.
I am experiencing problems with a dual graphics setup.
One monitor is attached to each graphics card. This setup works with MS-Windows
without any trouble.
I would like the same setup to be available in linux, yet I am right now stuck
with a single monitor in vesa mode.

I would like to jump-start the configuration with Xorg -configure but
unfortunately, the Xorg somehow crashes during execution. I included a
corresponding log below.

Best regards,
Ralf

Bug#587955: Install resolvconf is indeed an alternative

2010-12-27 Thread kA kA
Dear Andrew,

you are absolutely right. Installing resolvconf solves the problem for me.
Thanx for the hint.

So from my point of view, a fix is still desirable but not so urgent any more.

Best regards,
Ralf

P.S. I used to install the absolute minimum of packages possible since the
installation sits on a flash drive. But prices have come down so much in the
last several years that this is no longer necessary.

Bug#587955: Please fix this bug

2010-12-22 Thread kA kA
Dear all,

I am also plagued by this bug, which has an easy fix.
My key issue with this bug is that when I update packages, I often forget to
reapply the patch.
Since the installation is used on several computers by normal users, the
users are unable to normally navigate through the www in such an instance.
Hence I am truely annoyed by this bug.

So please fix this bug once and for ever.

Thanx for all your efforts in advance.

Best regards,
Ralf

Bug#602373: Breaks Xorg -configure on systems without Voodoo hardware and leaves system in uncontrollable state (for normal users)

2010-11-04 Thread kA kA
Package: xserver-xorg-driver-glide
Version: 1.0.3-2
Severity: serious

First of all thanks for all your efforts in advance.

I do not have any Voodoo video hardware but installed all Xorg drivers on three
different systems. On all of them Xorg -configure leaves the system in
unusable states, i.e. keyboard does not work any more, screen is blank.
Shutting down the system via the power button still works.
If I delete /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/glide_drv.so, Xorg -configure
performs as expected.
Since it is not obvious to a normal user what to do if Xorg -configure does
not work, I suggest that this behavoir of
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/glide_drv.so is a serious problem.

Best regards,
Ralf

Thanx for that quick reaction.

Sorry for the following misunderstanding: I did not upgrade fglrx-driver but
only upgrade my installation from lenny to squeeze.

not have fglrx-driver installed.

so the problem is that the submitter does not have a fglrxrc file on
his system (how he lost that, who knows). we should be able to fix that
by testing for the presence of each file to preserve, rather than
basing it on whether the /etc/ati directory exists.

i'll take a look at that when i get a chance. i'm lowering the
severity since this state is likely due to something this particular
user did wrong.
