Bug#476888: ntp: Use /etc/ntp/ directory for configuration files (Version control support)
Package: ntp Version: 1:4.2.4p4+dfsg-3 Severity: wishlist SUGGESTION: Easier VCS support The NTP configuration is not stored at /etc/ntp.conf, which unfortunately makes it difficult to put in in version control separately, because Version Control Systems (VCS) operate on directory basis. Please consider moving the file to /etc/ntp/ntp.conf which would allod versioning the directory /etc/ntp/ Separately from the rest of the /etc structure. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) (ignored: LC_ALL set to C) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ntp depends on: ii adduser 3.106 add and remove users and groups ii libc6 2.7-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcap1 1:1.10-14 support for getting/setting POSIX. ii libreadline5 5.2-3 GNU readline and history libraries ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8g-4 SSL shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.1-24 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii netbase 4.30 Basic TCP/IP networking system Versions of packages ntp recommends: ii perl 5.8.8-12 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#407109: axiom: loops forever while )read'ing expression
Greetings, and thanks Tim! Does this mean that there is an issue with the original missing mate error on the unbroken expression? I did a clip of the line and fed it to Axiom. I suspect the issue is that the line length was exceeded and clipped, leading to a shorter line being fed to Axiom. Separately, is there any clear path to accelerate the relevant algorithms along the lines of Waldek's suggestions? Or is this inadvisable? I believe Waldek has identified 6 places where Axiom does GCDs. If I were to attack the problem I'd probably: a) ask Waldek for those locations b) develop a set of increasingly expensive test cases for each one c) examine the detailed behavior with profiles to determine what costs d) make a change e) measure the difference f) loop back to c g) document the algorithms, measures, and results (conf paper?) This is a fairly well contained problem and, if I had students, I'd assign it as a path toward a publication. Perhaps with Google's summer of code we could get a student to work on it. At the moment all of my resources are pressing toward a new hyperdoc that uses firefox so we can all drop the old code and use something that is both portable and useful for things like Sage. The code and pages I'm developing should work for all three systems. But as a side-effect, I have no time to look into the gcd issues. This isn't a large expression for Axiom. I've generated larger so I think Axiom can certainly handle it. I'm checking a later version (the one on Debian is from 2005) Tim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I've never used the )edit command since I always run Axiom in an emacs buffer. The issue is that the source filename is broken. The problem is caused because iprop attempts to resend the same entry many thousands of times; this causes both /var/log/auth.log and /var/lib/heimdal-kdc/log to grow on the slave servers, and these quickly fill up over 3gb of log space in a day. The messages in auth.log read: ipropd-slave[8760]: kadm5_log_replay: 2469: Entry already exists in database These repeat and repeat the same errors, often creating over 100,000 error messages in two hours. I've reported this on the heimdal-discuss mailing list, and tried the advice I received there: to stop the servers, truncate the logs using the undocumented truncate_log command (or also simply zeroing them), recopy the database manually or using hprop, and restarting. This did not help. More recently I tried dumping the master data base (using kadmin dump) then reloading. This did not appear to work at first, but my second attempt has produced about half an hour without a single error. -- Dr A O V Le Blanc University of Manchester -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#407034: nagios-pgsql: scheduling downtimes doesn't work on AMD64
Package: nagios-pgsql Version: 2:1.4-3 Severity: normal Hi! I recently migrated an i386 Nagios setup to amd64. Now, however, there are problems with scheduling downtimes. When I schedule downtime for a hostgroup (or group of services), Nagios happily sends out warnings in the specified timeperiod. A look at downtime in the CGI shows some hosts with multiple entries for the same scheduled downtime, and others with none whatsoever. If I restart Nagios after scheduling downtimes, everything's as expected, and warnings for hosts in scheduled downtime are no longer sent out. An example: - no downtimes scheduled currently: http://www.waldner.priv.at/photos/nagios-downtime/no-downtime.jpg - select hostgroup, select schedule downtime for all hosts.. http://www.waldner.priv.at/photos/nagios-downtime/select-downtime-for-group.jpg - schedule downtime http://www.waldner.priv.at/photos/nagios-downtime/commit-downtime.jpg - downtime from the CGI http://www.waldner.priv.at/photos/nagios-downtime/downtime-group.jpg - select first host from downtime list http://www.waldner.priv.at/photos/nagios-downtime/viele-downtimes.jpg - second host http://www.waldner.priv.at/photos/nagios-downtime/no-downtime-visible.jpg In the postgres db it looks like I'd expect: nagios=# select * from hostdowntime; hostdowntime_id |host_name| entry_time | start_time | -+-+-+-+ 3693 | sheakkacs02 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | 3694 | sheasracs01 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | 3695 | sheavbacs01 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | 3696 | sheawjacs01 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | 3697 | vheafracs01 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | 3698 | vheakiacs01 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | 3699 | vhearoacs01 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | 3700 | vheasdacs01 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | 3701 | vwbipheabiacs01 | 2007-01-15 15:18:54 | 2007-01-15 15:17:14 | Any hints? Bug#403846: update-initramfs: mount/losetup are broken in initrd
Package: update-initramfs Version: update-initramfs Severity: normal my / is on sdb; sda+sdc are set up as RAID=/dev/md0 At the moment, I boot my system on sdb; file systems of sdb have been copied to md0. After booting sdb, I can run successfully: mount -o offset=2564014080 /dev/md0 /mnt/whatever So, to boot and use md0 as root, I changed the boor arguments from /vmlinuz ro initrd=/initrd.img root=/dev/sdb3 to /vmlinuz ro initrd=/initrd.img root=/dev/md0 rootflags=offset=2564014080 In short, at bot time I am said that md0 is not mountable; then, I fallback to some prompt. Ther, I try to mount md0 manually, running exactly the same command: mount -o offset=2564014080 /dev/md0 /mnt/ and I am said from memory invalid argument. After 2 weeks trying EVERY THING I could think of, I have embedded losetup from the main system in the ramdisk; once in the prompt, the procedure became: - losetup -o 2564014080 /dev/loop4 /dev/md0 - /scripts/dhp/losetup -o 2564014080 /dev/loop6 /dev/md0 - mount -o ro /dev/loop4 /root - mount -o ro /dev/loop6 /root First call is using losetup from the ramdisk made by update-initramfs; the second one is using losetup I put in the ramdisk. 3rd call fails, 4th works. This means losetup actually embedded in initramdisk does not support properly the offset option. The result is that loop device can not be set up, and everything fails. I do not know if other scripts also have this failure (to assume that the offset option is never passed), but please, check so. I will do more testing within days, to see if rebuilding the ramdisk manually and swicthing the losetup binary solves the problem; if yes, then other scripts are OK. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: alpha Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-alpha-smp Locale: LANG=en_GB.ISO-8859-15, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.ISO-8859-15 (charmap=ISO-8859-15) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#398169: lighttpd: invoke-rc.d fails on force-reload
Package: lighttpd Version: 1.4.13-4 Severity: important maybe related to bug #380080 the lighttpd logrotate config file calls invoke-rc.d with force-reload which only stops the server, claims failure and doesn't attempt to restart. I changed it here to reload. works fine. force-reload is actually restart in the init script, that may be the wrong thing. either way, this is a big no-no. one small thing I'm doing here different but should not be a problem - I make sure I don't have leftover rails fcgi dispatchers that often stay up after lighty exits. to the end of the stop section of the script I added the command: pkill -9 -P 1 fcgi I doubt this should effect this force-reload problem in any way. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-em64t-p4-smp Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages lighttpd depends on: ii libattr12.4.32-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.3-6 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libldap22.1.30-13+b1 OpenLDAP libraries ii libpcre36.7-1Perl 5 Compatible Regular Expressi ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8c-3 SSL shared libraries ii lsb-base3.1-15 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii mime-support3.37-1 MIME files 'mime.types' 'mailcap ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime Versions of packages lighttpd recommends: ii php4-cgi 4:4.4.4-6 server-side, HTML-embedded scripti ii php5-cgi 5.1.6-5server-side, HTML-embedded scripti -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#346552: [Axiom-developer] Re: Bug#346552: naive methods of exiting axiom can blow up catastrophically
Greetings, and thanks! Can anyone see what this might suggest in the sman code? Take care, Waldek Hebisch [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: root wrote: Camm, Architecturally there is a process called sman which starts up other processes including axiomsys, which is a saved GCL image. sman handles the terminal. by default a special terminal handler called 'clef' (command line edit function) which is our own version of readline-like handling is started. try starting axiom with axiom -noclef and see if the problem still happens. Reproducible (using build-improvements) both with and without clef. When AXIOMsys is run directly ^D exits it. When AXIOMsys is run via clef ^D\n exits it. With sman present Axiom crashes. Apparently the ptys are opened in raw mode and do not interpret the control characters but pass them down the pipe to AXIOMsys. However the (read) from axiom simply gets the cntrl-D and tries to parse it. I'm not really sure how this should be handled. Clearly you don't want sman to open up a pty that interprets control characters. Nor do you want lisp's (read) to interpret control characters. Which raises the question why are you trying to pass cntrl-D and what do you expect to happen? And why do you expect this? t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#390369: nbsmtp: Doesn't provide working /usr/sbin/sendmail as an MTA should
Package: nbsmtp Version: 1.00-2 Severity: normal This program provides mail-transport-agent, which means that installing it on a system will break its ability to send mail normally -- whatever package currently provides /usr/sbin/sendmail will be uninstalled, because of the mail-transport-agent conflict, but nbsmtp does not provide /usr/sbin/sendmail as required by policy 11.6 (it provides /usr/bin/sendmail instead). For example, on this system right now, mailx and reportbug do not work properly -- I need to install esmtp after opening the editor in order to send this bug report :-). In addition, nbsmtp does not provide a sendmail-compatible interface, so even symlinking /usr/bin/sendmail to /usr/sbin/sendmail doesn't give me working email. IMHO nbsmtp should either: 1. Stop providing mail-transport-agent and /usr/bin/sendmail, or 2. Update its interface to be more-or-less sendmail-compatible and move /usr/bin/sendmail to /usr/sbin/sendmail -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-2-486 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages nbsmtp depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6-15 GNU C Library: Shared libraries nbsmtp recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#383554: 'pump' fails after receiving IP address, and card is disabled
Package: pump Version: 0.8.21-2 Severity: normal Pump fails after obtaining an IP address from a DHCP server. It sends a DHCPDISCOVER request, gets a DHCPOFFER reply, then sends a second DHCPDISCOVER request. This gets a DHCPOFFER, which sets my IP address, then I get failed to set default route, which then stops the interface and disables the card. (See daemon.log snippet below.) I replaced 'pump' with 'dhcp3-client', and it all works. I've swapped between dhcp3-client and pump several times, and the failure came and went with pump. I've seen similar reports on the 'net, and it appears to be a combination of 'pump' and Prism2 cards. Jeff Root -- System Information: My OS: Debian stable (Sarge), up-to-date. Bug#375035: (no subject)
Subject: kernel: Kernel 2.6.16 attempts to access root device before running initramfs init Package: kernel Severity: important After upgrading from 2.6.15-1-powerpc to 2.6.16-2-powerpc I received the message VFS: Cannot open root device /dev/sda8 or unknown-block(somenumber, somenumber) I checked the initrd and it contains the necessary modules, but none of the initrd's console messages appear on the console before the error message which leads me to believe that the kernel is attempting to look at the root device before loading the module needed to see it. The root device requires the mesh module (scsi hba) which is in the initrd. I have confirmed that the failed boot stops at the point where the initrd is loaded by carefully watching the boot messages with a working boot with 2.6.15. The point where the initramfs (initrd-xxx.img) is loaded appears to be after the freeing memory line. Bug#368627: mysql-server-4.1: crashes every time immediately at startup, after upgrade to 4.1.11a-4sarge3
Package: mysql-server-4.1 Version: 4.1.11a-4sarge3 Followup-For: Bug #368627 I just upgraded my MySQL to version 4.1.11a-4sarge3 using 'apt-get upgrade'. It now refuses to start, with a stack trace very similar to the original submitter of bug 368627. It has been working fine for months prior to the upgrade. apt-get also upgraded libc6, I don't know if this is relevant, as I've had no issues with any other installed packages. I have tried removing and reinstalling mysql-server-4.1 and related packages such as libmysqlclient14 with no success. I also tried removing and installing the previous version (4.1.11a-4sarge2) but this fails as well. I checked the consistency of the tables (as suggested on the mysql website) using myisamchk but no errors were reported there. Here's the stack trace: May 30 17:37:10 muntfish mysqld_safe[2844]: mysqld got signal 11; May 30 17:37:10 muntfish mysqld_safe[2844]: This could be because you hit a bug. Bug#353877: slapd: missing pid because of corrupted bdb db
Package: slapd Version: 2.2.23-8 Followup-For: Bug #353877 I dont know why, but slapd corrupted my bdb database. Thats why slapd didnt create a pidfile and didnt listen on the network interface (but it didnt tell me why, argl). I lost my complete new ldap setup. Perhaps ldbm should be the default backend ? -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-386 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages slapd depends on: ii coreutils [fileutils] 5.2.1-2The GNU core utilities ii debconf 1.4.30.13 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libdb4.2 4.2.52-18 Berkeley v4.2 Database Libraries [ ii libiodbc2 3.52.2-3 iODBC Driver Manager ii libldap-2.2-7 2.2.23-8 OpenLDAP libraries ii libltdl3 1.5.6-6A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libperl5.85.8.4-8sarge3 Shared Perl library ii libsasl2 2.1.19-1.5 Authentication abstraction library ii libslp1 1.0.11a-2 OpenSLP libraries ii libssl0.9.7 0.9.7e-3sarge1 SSL shared libraries ii libwrap0 7.6.dbs-8 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii perl [libmime-base64-perl 5.8.4-8sarge3 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii psmisc21.5-1 Utilities that use the proc filesy -- debconf information excluded -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#347199: [Axiom-developer] Re: Bug#347199: axiom-doc: Book is all-monospace after page 1019
At page 1019 of the Axiom book (the 1036th page of the pdf file), the text becomes all-monospace. I believe this is due to a typo in the file book.pamphlet, line 62236, where it says: {\tt n}. If {\tt n} is a negative number, it refers to the \tt n-th Instead, the final \tt should have some braces, probably like so: {\tt n}. If {\tt n} is a negative number, it refers to the {\tt n}-th fixed in next release. t -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
