I've just retried rmadison on my console of choice, "lxterminal", and
rmadison is working perfectly. Its possible that my multiple reboots
yesterday cleared the problem, so could you please close my bug report?
Thanks, and sorry for the noise, in future, I'll try a reboot to see if
it closes any problem!

Thanks
Sharon.

No, it seems that my email proggie, "gnus", doesn't pick up the bug
report address from your email. I do a "very wide reply and yank", which
should just pick up every email address associated with the email, but it
only picks up yours. Like it has done with this one, so I've hunted for
the bug email address which I've included.

Is it possible that I have a corrupted font which is causing the
mish-mash? Do you know the font that "rmadison" uses please?

Thanks
Sharon.

Bug#801770: devscripts: rmadison does not run properly but instead has a mishmash of rubbish

2015-10-14 Thread Sharon Kimble
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.15.9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

When trying to use "rmadison emacs24" I get this -

rmadison emacs24
<0
El9[)fՀ֌؇{OK)t7}"S8ە1ʹEGA24zp׹EqJQa4

   @Ri0OOAA
H%"BvB7h%%y4";

This is on a fresh install of jessie yesterday, 64bit. I've tried upgrading to
the version of devscripts in testing, but it makes no difference, still the
same mishmash.

I was hoping to see the output showing what version of emacs24 in all debian
repos.

Thanks
Sharon.

 Hi Sharon,

I can't reproduce this bug in sid or jessie installations.

As Jakub indicated, this looks like some local issue due to Python
libraries installation outside the distribution. Nothing wrong with
that, but please make sure this is not interfering with Turpial
 dependencies.

I'm downgrading the severity of this bug and I'd like if you can retry
and confirm if there is really an issue with Turpial.

 Cheers,

Thanks for this. I've been able to get turpial to load and function
normally using the turpial from the sid repo [turpial 3.0+dfsg-1]. I
wasn't able to delete the particular python library, so I've renamed it
and am waiting to see what bleats first! If there are no calls to it
after about a fortnight, then I'll just physically delete it.

Thanks
Sharon.

You have an old version of python-requests installed in /usr/local.
It'd probably help if you got rid of it.

I've tried to remove it, or upgrade it, but its failing with the exact
same error report as it has from turpial. So I've renamed it and am now
able to run turpial from sid.

gpg: problem with the agent - disabling agent use
We need to generate a lot of random bytes. It is a good idea to perform
some other action (type on the keyboard, move the mouse, utilize the
disks) during the prime generation; this gives the random number
generator a better chance to gain enough entropy.

We need to generate a lot of random bytes. It is a good idea to perform
some other action (type on the keyboard, move the mouse, utilize the

This means some package in your system is using an absolute path
to update-alternatives, which is wrong and should be fixed. A bit
more context would help here to diagnose where the actual problem
is, so that the bug report can be reassigned to the correct place.

Otherwise I'll be closing it as this has been a planned change for
some time now, and not a problem with dpkg itself.

It seems the installation went fine, and something after that failed,
 maybe some hook?

 Could you «grep -sr update-alternatives /etc/apt /etc/dpkg»? If that
does not match anything maybe check what gets executed from the hooks
in there and grep those other scripts?

  Here it is.

Would it be possible for you to isolate / narrow down whatever is
causing this issue for you in your .conkyrc? There's lots of extra
noise in your .conkyrc, and a bunch of execi/execpi calls to other
scripts on your filesystem. Ideally, it'd be best if you could provide
a minimal, self-contained .conkyrc that can be used to reproduce this
reliably, and which I can then forward upstream. Thanks!

The original bug report was for .conkyrc-basic, which do you
want .conkyrc-basic or .conkyrc please? They are both two different
scripts with different outputs.

Thanks
Sharon.

Any progress on this since 18th March please? I have a need of it for
using with 'gcacli', and the ubuntu package, although it installs,

Thanks
Sharon.

Could this be related to google instituting a two-step verification process
recently, which broke this version and the previous one too?

Thank you
Sharon Kimble.

Package: logcheck
Version: 1.3.15

Dear Maintainer,
I applied the patch as detailed here, but there is no change in the situation
even after rebooting, I am still getting lots of messages like this
'/usr/sbin/logcheck: line 100: kill: (26603) - No such process' . This is how I
installed the patch.
  if [ -n $LOCK ]; then
debug cleanup: Killing lockfile-touch - $LOCK
kill $LOCK unset LOCK
fi

Replace the third line with

kill -0 $LOCK kill $LOCK unset LOCK

Thank you

Bug#545559: Init script: Cannot _stop_ mpd when START_MPD is set to false.

2012-11-25 Thread Sharon Kimble
Package: mpd
Version: 0.16.7-2
Followup-For: Bug #545559

Dear Maintainer,

I came across this bug today on wheezy , and the only solution I found is to
amend /etc/default/mpd and amend # MPDCONF=/etc/mpd.conf and uncomment it and
amend it to MPDCONF=/home/boztu/.mpd/mpd.conf to my local conf file for it.
Then I was able to sudo service mpd stop knowing that mpd would restart and use
my local conf file. In this way I'm able to run mpd as a $USER.

Thank you
Sharon Kimble.

Bug#694074: conky-all: Incorrect link in man page

2012-11-23 Thread Sharon Kimble
Package: conky-all
Version: 1.9.0-2
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

At the end of the man page it says 'SEE ALSO' where there is the link to
http://wiki.conky.be which is a 'joke site' and nothing to do with conky the
programme.

I feel that this link should be removed, to improve the quality of the
information in the man page.

Thank you

Bug#688428: apt times out post download when processing triggers

It has. The error you receive:

Processing triggers for man-db ...
Setting up alpine (2.02+dfsg-1.1) ...
Setting up alpine-doc (2.02+dfsg-1.1) ...
Error: Timeout was reached

is not from apt but output as a result of one of the Post-Invoke triggers.

How often do you receive such an error and is your system under
increased load when it happens?

Every time now, its just happened again with updating this morning.

Searching your apt conf. for the term “timeout” matches this entry:

DPkg::Post-Invoke:: /usr/bin/test -e /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.PackageKit.service
 /usr/bin/test -S /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket /usr/bin/gdbus call --system --dest
org.freedesktop.PackageKit --object-path /org/freedesktop/PackageKit --timeout 1 --method
org.freedesktop.PackageKit.StateHasChanged cache-update  /dev/null; /bin/echo  /dev/null;

which is calling /usr/bin/gdbus. Grepping the source of that package
(libglib2.0-bin) indicates that it does contain a “Timeout was
reached” error.

This entry is added by packagekit, so reassigning.

Fair enough, thanks.

Regards

Sharon.

Dear Maintainer,
When downloading updates in wheezy, apt-get always timesout in post-download

I have tried to find where the 'timeout' is configured in all the apt

I expect apt to continue and complete, and show its working as part of the
download process.
