Bug#905531: snmpd: Stupid error during dist-upgrade

2018-08-05 Thread teo8...@gmail.com
Package: snmpd
Version: 5.7.2.1+dfsg-1+deb8u1+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

I ran apt dist-upgrade

   * What was the outcome of this action?

It ended with an error related to snmpd. These are the last lines of output:

Replacing config file /etc/perl/XML/SAX/ParserDetails.ini with new version
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-18+deb8u10) ...
Processing triggers for systemd (215-17+deb8u7) ...
Processing triggers for libapache2-mod-php5 (5.6.36+dfsg-0+deb8u1) ...
Processing triggers for libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0:amd64 (2.31.1-2+deb8u7) ...
Processing triggers for dictionaries-common (1.23.17) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 snmpd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

And there's no indication of what to do to fix it. It doesn't even tell me if
snmpd will be working or not.

* What outcome did you expect instead?

The error shouldn't exist in the first place, but if something went wrong, you
must tell me WHAT THE FUCK it is that went wrong and what I am supposed to d
o.

Bug#814678: cron: No information given about syntax error in /etc/crontab

2016-02-13 Thread teo8...@gmail.com
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-124
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Have a syntax error in /etc/crontab

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
see above
   * What was the outcome of this action?
A generic useless non-informative error message is logged
in /var/log/syslog whih reads more or less (quoting by memory):
Syntax error in /etc/crontab. This file will be ignored

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
The message should at the very least include the exact row and column
where the syntax error is, and ideally a description of the error
(e.g. "XXX expected" or "invalid YYY")

It's absolutely ridiculous that you have to figure out for yourself where
the error is in potentially thousands of lines.

Bug#783550: mrtg: install didn't create /var/www/mrtg nor /etc/cron.d/mrtg

2015-04-27 Thread teo8...@gmail.com
Package: mrtg
Version: 2.17.4-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
apt-get install mrtg

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?

1 No /var/www/mrtg directory was created
2 No mrtg.cfg file was created ANYWHERE
3 No cronjob was added, i.e. no /etc/cron.d/mrtg file

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

All of the above should have been created.
A directory /usr/share/mrtg was created which contains png files.
So maybe instead of (1), a file should have been added to
apache conf.d directory?

I had previously installed the mrtg before on the same server before,
and then uninstalled it. I'm almost sure the first time it did
work as expected (which is why I expected it, besides because all
the tutorials out there tell you that is what's going to happe)
Did I dream it? Am I confusing with cacti installation?

Anyway, what's sure is that apt-get mrtg does not result in a working
installation
nor does it give you hints of the missing steps.

Bug#783402: cacti package is completely broken, nothing works out of the box

2015-04-26 Thread teo8...@gmail.com
Package: cacti
Version: 0.8.8a+dfsg-5+deb7u4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
installed cacti package

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

apt-get install cacti
followed installation instructions

   * What was the outcome of this action?
cacti doesn't work.
It does not generate files in the rra/ directory
It does not show any graphs

Also, the installed HTML documentation has broken links to wrong paths of CSS
files

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Should work out of the box.
And the HTML documentation should be built and linked correctly

See these reports which have been closed by the upstream developer who says
they're the debian package's fault:

Bug#783403: snmpd: snmpd service doesn't start and gives no error message

2015-04-26 Thread teo8...@gmail.com
Package: snmpd
Version: 5.4.3~dfsg-2.8+deb7u1
Severity: important
File: snmpd

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Installed snmpd package

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
apt-get install snmpd

   * What was the outcome of this action?

snmpd daemon is not running. Also, trying to start it does nothing and does not
even show an error message:

# service snmpd start
# ps aux |grep snmpd
root 18976 0.0 0.0 7836 884 pts/1R+ 18:34 0:00 grep snmpd

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

the snmpd service should start, and if anything is preventing it from starting,
it should give an error message with
enough information to troubleshoot the issue

Bug#766293: exim4: dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config: question about root/postmaster user not asked any more

2014-10-21 Thread teo8...@gmail.com
Package: exim4
Version: 4.80-7
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
After a fresh install of Debian 7,
I ran dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config once
I selected "internet site; mail is sent and received directly using SMTP"
as the answer to the first question
then entered all the most common values for send-only email from localhost only.

There was one question that asked for a list of real users to deliver all email
for root and postmaster.
At first, I only entered "root" here.

After ending the process, I realized I should have also added a real email
address,
such as myrealn...@gmail.com.

So I ran dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config again.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

I was presented all the same questions again. So far so good.
All fields were pre-filled with the answers I had given the first time,
i.e. current configuration; so far so good.
BUT the question about the root users was missing!!

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

I should have been asked ALL the same questions as before.
I should be given an opportunity to change the value for that particular
question.
It's actually the only one I wanted to change and it was the one that I was not
asked.
