Bug#338684: gdb: support for command line arguments of program to be debugged

2005-11-11 Thread wim delvaux
Package: gdb
Version: 6.3-6
Severity: wishlist

It would be handy if you could run gdb with the command to be
debugged including its options

now you must split the command and the arguments and use 'r'

I would like something like

gdb GDBOPTIONS -- command COMMANDOPTIONS

so you could
# SomeCommand -a -b -c
- has bug - press key UP to use history and add gdb -- before
   command
# gdb -- SomeCommand -a -b -c

libc.so.6 = /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0xb7c46000)

Bug#309460: eating 100% cpu

2005-08-05 Thread wim delvaux
I have the same problem

In my case it occurs when I do things like

(gdb) b 'MSP_Core::deviceGroupsChanged(MSP_DeviceGroup*, bool)'

NOT when I break in a regular C function

like b DoSomething

I use a lot of dynamic libraries but I think it is a mangling problem

Also it relates to tabbing

when I do

b 'XYZ

and press TAB/TAB to find all XYZ

It also takes a long time to find them

if you provide me with a debuggable gdb I will do what you suggested but I do
not have the time to build gdb (knowing that it probably relates to lots of
other stuff like glibc etc)

for tools like makedepend, the current packaging of the gcc compiler
is not ideal.

lots of files (like stdarg) are in a gcc version specific directory.
for me that is
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.6/include/stddef.h

thie 3.3.6 is annoying since it changes with every (minor) upgrade
of the compiler.

Hence request to add a link to the package

ln /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.6 /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3

This way for each minor upgrade, the directory no longer changes

you should never include these directories directly. Is there a valid
   reason to do so?

it delivers missing includes, hence the makedepend needs -I ...

Bug#307868: gcc-3.3: request for additional link in /usr/lib/gcc-lib

2005-05-05 Thread wim delvaux
Package: gcc-3.3
Version: 1:3.3.6-2
Severity: wishlist

for tools like makedepend, the current packaging of the gcc compiler
is not ideal.

lots of files (like stdarg) are in a gcc version specific directory.
for me that is
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.6/include/stddef.h

thie 3.3.6 is annoying since it changes with every (minor) upgrade
of the compiler.

Hence request to add a link to the package

ln /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.6 /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3

This way for each minor upgrade, the directory no longer changes

Bug#305195: xmms-arts: arts in combination with crossfade plugin causes audio to 'skip'

2005-04-18 Thread wim delvaux
Package: xmms-arts
Version: 0.7.1-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

when I use crossfade with alsa plugin the xmms plays music just fine.

However when I want to activate arts output ( because of conflicts in
opening audio device with other applications ) the music skips.

There is audio and it plays ok but it seems that xmms skips parts
of the song. So a song of say 3 minutes is played in 30 seconds, the
parts that are played sounding OK but lots of parts of the song just
do not get played.

the time reflects the skipping. I.e. it starts at 3 minutes and
one second later it is at say 2.30 minutes etc.

if i interpret this correctly then dlsym (used somewhere in the write
function of valgrind), causes a free of the return string of a
dlerror() which is still needed by my application because it wants
to printf it.

if that free occurs all the time it might break other applications too.

Bug#290689: elvis: Just to make sure I understand ...

2005-01-17 Thread wim delvaux
Package: elvis
Version: 2.2.0-2
Followup-For: Bug #290689

This additional info after mail from steve kirkendall

My cursor color statement was

color cursor red on black.

Changing it to

color cursor red on red

effectively solves the problem ..

However I am not entirely sure that the explained behavior is correct.
I do not 'really' understand exactly when 'owning selection' occurs.

That is why I explain again what happens. (or better happened)

when I have some text and click-and-hold the left mouse button to
start rubbering some text selection. The cursor color remains black.

As long as I move the mouse with button pressed the color remains the
same.

However, the moment I release the button the cursor takes a black
color (even when the selection is still highlighted).

What I find strange with this is that 'owning selection' seems a
permanent thing. You make it sound that the color the cursor
takes depends on some X-state. This sounds to me that one can
go from one state to another and back. If that is the case why
then does the cursor color never go back to the 'origninal' state.

When the elvis is not in focus (i.e some other window is on top)
the cursor never changes color but goes from a fully filled red
sequare (focus) to a hollow shaped cursor (no focus).

If all this is expected behavior the bug can be closed

Thanx for the swift reply

Bug#290689: elvis: color of cursor alteres when being selected

2005-01-15 Thread wim delvaux
Package: elvis
Version: 2.2.0-2
Severity: important

Initialially the cursor has a certain color.

when you select with the mouse a certain part of the text and
the cursor happens to be on a character that will become a
part of the selection, after the selection is deselected (e.g
because you select another region or you have copied the region) then
the cursor does not revert to the original color.

In my case the cursor is red on black and the color after the
selection is black on black (difficult to see)
