Bug#1000482: neomutt: license conflict with libsasl2

2022-03-16 Thread Bastian Germann
mutt introduced gsasl support with v2.2. When neomutt eventually rebases on that or a newer version,
you might be able to enable it in favour of cyrus-sasl.

Bug#1000482: neomutt: license conflict with libsasl2

2021-11-23 Thread Bastian Germann

Package: neomutt
Version: 20201127+dfsg.1-1.2
Severity: important

Hi,

neomutt depends on libsasl2-2, which is licensed under CMU's BSD-4-clause
license and covered by the RSA-MD and OpenSSL
licenses. All of them have an advertisement clause in place, which is known to
be incompatible with GPL.
There are several possible solutions to this problem:

1) Build without SASL support.

2) Support my request at #996892.

3) Ask upstream to add a license exception for libsasl2-2, similar to the one
that was required by Debian for OpenSSL
for a long time.

Thanks for your consideration,
Bastian
