Bug#1024603: gnome-terminal: dose not show combining characters right

2023-05-07 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Hi,

As you've also noted, gnome-terminal is not the only app misbehaving here.

See also some of the followup comments (not the original report) in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/vte/-/issues/2624 , same story.

It's a problem with some of the fonts, or some font rendering component of
the system.

The bug should be triaged accordingly, it's not gnome-terminal or libvte
that needs fixing. Unfortunately I cannot help any further (I'm not a
Debian developer, just a random commenter.)

cheers,
egmont

Bug#1024603: gnome-terminal: dose not show combining characters right

2022-11-21 Thread Mr. T
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 3.38.3-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: t...@treaki.tk

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
trying about whith german Umlauten encoded with combining characters
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
i created a textfile that displays right in firefox, libreoffice and
xterm, but wrong in gnome-terminal, gedit and konsole
   * What was the outcome of this action?
i was confused on what software implements it right which wrong
(guessing firefox, soffice and xterm doing it right but your modern
open source stuff wrong, but am not sure)
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
that all software would display it the same

see attatched screenshots and text file

thanks for looking in to this and hopefully fixing it
