Test ISO (without any firmware, just a fresh minimal installer build)
available here for you to check whether that helps the touchpad become
alive:

OK, so the input device is definitely not seen in d-i.

Let me guess, `lsmod|grep lpss` returns stuff in your installed system?

I think that's something I've already seen during a BSP, but we got
side-tracked by falling into various other rabbit holes, something like
LPSS behind missing in d-i, which means some devices aren't seen. My
vague recollection around LPSS seems to be confirmed by things like
these:

which are about those, found on Celeron…

Alright, this is behind i2c/i2c_hid, and relevant modules seem to be
included in the installer environment. Please attach the complete
/var/log/installer/syslog (compressed) for further investigation. :)

Comments/Problems:

Laptop touchpad not working during install. Once installation completed and I
booted into the new install, it worked without issue. So for whatever reason,
the driver is just not being loaded during the graphical installation, even
though the touchpad is supported.
