Bug#1036272: youtube-dl - Should this be released with Bookworm?

I have ensured that they don't break with the transitional package (most upstream packages either check for yt-dlp and youtube-dl, or just fall back to doing something reasonable if youtube-dl doesn't exist), but it seems pretty late in the release process to go changing stuff like that. Once bookworm is released, youtube-dl can be dropped and packages that depend upon it can have RC bugs filed to change their dependencies. This is documented in the release notes [1], so totally fine for bookworm. > Do we really need to release this package in a not so usable state? It seems that currently mkchromecast still depends on this package. So just removing it would remove mkchromecast as well. But i'm not sure how much of mkchromecast works without a binary called youtube-dl. Also some users might benefit from automatically transitioning to youtube-dlp, on the other hand yt-dlp does not seem to provide youtube-dl as a binary, so maybe this is unexpected as well. - Martin

Source: youtube-dl Version: 2021.12.17-2 Severity: serious We have a maintained and uptodate fork of this package in the archive and the release: yt-dlp. Do we really need to release this package in a not so usable state? Hint: transitional packages are supposed to be at the target of a transiton and more empty.
