You can probably remove libdbus-1-dev as a buildtime dependency as well.

Yes, I already switched to dhcpcd as a dependency on that package and
with that it won't install dhcpcd-dbus anymore.
I've also asked an acquaintance of mine who is a DD to upload the
change (which I consider more urgent).
Thanks!

That dependency on dhcpcd-dbus can and should be removed.

Bug#1037244: dhcpcd-ui: new upstream 0.7.9 release

2023-06-21 Thread Roy
dhcpcd-ui no longer uses dhcpcd-dbus

The dhcpcd-ui source has libdhcpcd in the src directory which is the raw C
replacement.
The dhcpcd-ui binaries such as dhcpcd-qt use it when building.

Does this help answer your question?

Thanks, I was about to email him about that. He was the one who did
the first packaging and maintained it for a period.
In Alpine, for example, kept dhcpcd-dbus:
https://pkgs.alpinelinux.org/package/edge/community/x86_64/dhcpcd-ui

What I want to know is if this package still depends on dhcpcd-dbus,
if something has been merged, otherwise I will test the compilation
for qt5 and switch to dhcpcd. I add these two changes and ask someone
to DD to upload them. This package depends on dhcpcd-dbus which the
author has removed from their repositories since first upload for
Debian.
There is an issue that makes it possible to remove dhcpcd-dbus from
the distribution because of upstream discontinuities.
And I had already seen that he removed dhcpcd-dbus from his
repositories. Didn't created any repository for it on github.

Do you see any dhcpcd-dbus there?

Dhcpcd-dbus provides dhcpcd just check the link below and I didn't see
anything being merged about that in the commits made, are you sure
about that?
The only dependency that was missing was wpa_supplicant to be
installed that the package depended on.
Then I want to test compiling it to qt5 since the upstream mentioned
that it works. Already qt4 is not used anymore.
I remember using dhcpcd-ui to see how it worked when I worked on it to
release 0.7.8. It works fine without needing to enter any
dependencies.
Just in conclusion, there are no missing dependencies since this bug
closes (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1031092).

The dependency on dhcpcd is sitll missing.

Also, as far as I can tell, upstream no longer ships a separate
dhcpcd-dbus. Unless I misread, this has been merged in dhcpcd-ui
(which can now produce a QT front-end in additon to the GTK one).

Sure, no problem.

Btw, Matintxo (above in CC) is one dhcpcd-ui user that I know of. He
would be in a good position to help you test any future commit before
uploads to Debian.

Hi,

Thank you, but I am already aware of this and leave this bug open that
I must close it with the update.
Just remember that I am a volunteer who helps the Debian QA team on
unmaintained packages and I am not a maintainer of this package.

Bug#1037244: dhcpcd-ui: new upstream 0.7.9 release

2023-06-08 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Source: dhcpcd-ui
Version: 0.7.8-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Upstream released dhcpcd-ui 0.7.9 in April 2023 on Github.

This is upstream's first release on Github. Upstream's personal repository has
been discontinued.

This is also upstream's first release with GPG-signed tarballs and GPG-signed
Git tags.

Debian's dhcpcd package may be used as an example for importing upstream's GPG
key and for tracking GPG-signed Git commits. Merely tracking the tarballs also
is possible.
