I've tested pam-auth-update on both bookworm and unstable (simply by
fetching the script from the master branch on salsa) and now e.g.

./pam-auth-update --disable ldap

does what it is supposed to and removes all pam_ldap.so entries
from /etc/pam.d/*, invoking it interactively afterwards also shows
the module as disabled.

No, not currently.
But if you would agree to test in testing/unstable now, and test again
once it gets into stable-proposed, I'd be happy to raise the severity to
important so that it is eligible for bookworm and prepare an update.

Sounds good, I'll test on unstable and provide feedback here.

No, not currently.
But if you would agree to test in testing/unstable now, and test again
once it gets into stable-proposed, I'd be happy to raise the severity to
important so that it is eligible for bookworm and prepare an update.

Are there plans to get this into stable-updates?

This is needed in debian-edu-config in bookworm, we get libpam-ldapd as a
dependency via nslcd and need to programmatically disable pam_ldap as we use
Kerberos (see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1051841#20).
