Thanks for the report. I just hit the same thing, and figured it out.

I think we'll probably have it fixed soon. For reference, it looks like
we should be providing flavor-specific emacsclients. Currently the one
in emacs-bin-common (the only one) comes from the pgtk build, and when I
tried a lucid-built emacsclient with my lucid emacs daemon, the problem
went away.

So I'm in the process of moving emacsclient from emacs-bin-common to the
flavor-specific packages, i.e. emacs-pgtk, emacs-gtk, emacs-lucid, etc.

Bug#1050953: emacslient fails to start when -n is specified

2023-08-31 Thread Wang Yizhen

Package: emacs
Version: 1:29.1+1-5
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: wang1zhe...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

I recently noticed a bug for the emacs package in sid.

After upgraded to emacs 29.1+1-5, I found that the emacsclient command
is not working. More specifically, the following command hangs emacs in
daemon forever and no emacs frame pops up:

```
emacsclient -c -a "" -n
```

However, `emacsclient -c -a ""` summons the emacs frame properly
although it occupies the terminal.

Thanks for your help.
