Bug#1057689: minetest: calls home for upstream version check
Hi, I have no idea how to check what changes have been made due to the poor UX of the debian website. I would just like to point out that the correct way to disable the update checker is to pass -DENABLE_UPDATE_CHECKER=0 to cmake. You don't need to patch defaultsettings.cpp or minetest.conf Also, if you disable the update checker it would be great if you could update Minetest quicker, at least in Debian testing On Wed, 6 Mar 2024 22:32:23 +0100 David Heidelberg wrote: > Hello! > > as a workaround you can set empty `update_information_url` in > `~/.minetest/minetest.conf`. > > For Debian developer maintaining minetest, this can be patched in > `src/defaultsettings.cpp` same way by setting it to empty string. > > Please, consider this message also as a request to bump minetest up to > 5.8.0 version. > > Thank you! > > -- > David Heidelberg
Bug#1057689: minetest: calls home for upstream version check
Hello! as a workaround you can set empty `update_information_url` in `~/.minetest/minetest.conf`. For Debian developer maintaining minetest, this can be patched in `src/defaultsettings.cpp` same way by setting it to empty string. Please, consider this message also as a request to bump minetest up to 5.8.0 version. Thank you! -- David Heidelberg

Package: minetest Version: 5.6.1+dfsg+~1.9.0mt8+dfsg-4 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, When starting the game, it checks for new upstream version. This is inpractical/inappropiate for Debian, as users should use the packaged version and it is a privacy violation. -- tobi -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers unstable-debug APT policy: (500, 'unstable-debug'), (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'oldstable-security'), (500, 'oldoldstable'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.5.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/12 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_WARN, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages minetest depends on: ii libc6 2.37-12 ii libcurl3-gnutls 8.4.0-2 ii libfreetype6 2.13.2+dfsg-1 ii libgcc-s1 13.2.0-7 ii libgl11.7.0-1 ii libgmp10 2:6.3.0+dfsg-2 ii libjpeg62-turbo 1:2.1.5-2 ii libjsoncpp25 1.9.5-6 ii libleveldb1d 1.23-5 ii libluajit-5.1-2 2.1.0~beta3+git20220320+dfsg-4.1 ii libncursesw6 6.4+20231121-1 ii libopenal11:1.23.1-4 ii libpng16-16 1.6.40-2 ii libpq516.1-1 ii libspatialindex6 1.9.3-3 ii libsqlite3-0 3.44.0-1 ii libstdc++613.2.0-7 ii libtinfo6 6.4+20231121-1 ii libvorbisfile31.3.7-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.8.7-1 ii libxi62:1.8-1+b1 ii libzstd1 1.5.5+dfsg2-2 ii minetest-data 5.6.1+dfsg+~1.9.0mt8+dfsg-4 ii zlib1g1:1.3.dfsg-3 minetest recommends no packages.
