I consider the MR process as an unnecessary additional step which I have
never seen before.  While it is fine for me I'd say feel free to push
directly to the default packaging branch.

I've did some nitpicking changes and sponsored the package to new.

Hi Andreas, Francesco has prepared a debian dir in an MR on salsa.
Would be great if you could review the MR and merge
(for my part it looks fine to me)
