Bug#286758: kernel-image-2.6.9-powerpc: Same openpic hang on PowerBook
I have submitted bug #298472 concerning the flickering, so you can close this bug. Sorry for long lines in previous messages, the webmailer I used (because e-mail addresses are published on the web) doesn't include format=flowed. My graphic chip is ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 128 MB (I forgot 9600 in the previous mail). Regards, Jens -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#286758: kernel-image-2.6.9-powerpc: Same openpic hang on PowerBook
Hi Martin, kernel-image-2.6.10-powerpc (2.6.10-3) is working without this issue on my Powerbook G4 1.5 GHz, ATI Mobility Radeon 128 MB. On 2.6.8 I haven't seen this bug, but another one: It seems to be impossible to configure X so that it isn't flickering at all. Either you use 'append=video=ofonly' in /etc/yaboot.conf in order to avoid a slight horizontal flickering already visible in text mode, then there's only a wild flickering when you start X. Or you use 'append=video=radeonfb' in order to make X usable, but then this slight horizontal fllickering remains also in the graphical mode. See also http://debianhelp.org/modules.php?op=modloadname=phpBB_14file=indexaction=viewtopictopic=726730654 So if you are going to release sarge with 2.6.8, then there will be computers that won't work with Debian stable for probably another 3 or 4 years, regarding the release cycles of Debian. So Sarge will be out of date when released. The only possibility would be to use testing or unstable, which sometimes is what the name says, or another distribution or Mac OS X (which is what I'm doing most of the time anyway). But at the moment 2.6.10-3 is in testing/sarge. Do you want to downgrade? Jens Arcor-DSL: die echte Flatrate für alle Bandbreiten. Jetzt ohne Einrichtungspreis einsteigen oder wechseln. Bug#286758: kernel-image-2.6.9-powerpc: Same openpic hang on PowerBook
* Jens-Erik Weber [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2004-12-22 01:40]: After writing openpic: exit the boot process hangs. I'm quite sure that after the installation of 2.6.9-3 I booted once without problems, but since then it hung. The poblem doesn't occur on 2.6.9-1, the only * Mark Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2005-01-12 10:46]: I'm seeing the same hang on my PowerBook. I'm pretty sure I had seen the same with -3, but only when the machine was running on battery (I hadn't written up a bug report since I wanted to confirm the failure mode). 2.6.9 has been removed from the archive. Can you please test the 2.6.10 kernel from the archive to see whether this issue is still there? Also, can you confirm that you've never seen this with 2.6.8 (which is the kernel we'll release with sarge). thanks. -- Martin Michlmayr http://www.cyrius.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
