Bug#293176: Setting system wide defaults.
On Monday 07 Feb 2005 22:22, John McMonagle wrote: How about be real convoluted and link the cache into var :) Linking things around is not wonderful because it a) is really difficult to manage from a packaging point of view and b) confuses people who are used to the current layout and annoys upstream when it breaks other stuff (see for example the problems with the font installer). Would you mind taking this upstream to see if you can get any sort of consensus about how they would like this solved? It would make life a lot easier for everyone if there was an agreed way to do this. Thanks Chris -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#293176: Setting system wide defaults.
Made a lot of progress. Here is what I tried: Made a fresh user install. Did customizations as that user. Even added a clip art and template. Zipped up user/ I did exclude a couple things but did most everything. Created /etc/openoffice/uno_packages Linked to/etc/openoffice/uno_packages into /usr/lib/openoffice/share copied zip into /etc/openoffice/uno_packages ran /usr/lib/openoffice/program/pkgchkhk -s It worked just fine! Need to check out a few points yet but at worst case I'm real close. From my experience so far the only reason everyone with a multiuser environment is not doing it is because they do not know it can be done! So my request can be changed to: Create /etc/openoffice/uno_packages directory link it to where ever you put share /usr/lib/openoffice/share I can of course just do it myself as that is what the uno_packages directory is for can feel pretty confident that safe and will not be clobbered. The worst that could likely happen is an upgrade would remove the link and I doubt if that would happen. If you put it in the package that covers that possibility. Hi, John McMonagle wrote: Created /etc/openoffice/uno_packages Linked to/etc/openoffice/uno_packages into /usr/lib/openoffice/share copied zip into /etc/openoffice/uno_packages ran /usr/lib/openoffice/program/pkgchkhk -s uno_packages should be in /var if outside /usr/lib/openoffice/share. Any particular place? I'm not familiar with debian rules but /usr/lib/openoffice/share is a really bad place as you should be able mount /usr ro also it just seems wrong ;-) How about be real convoluted and link the cache into var :) John Rene Engelhard wrote: Hi, John McMonagle wrote: Created /etc/openoffice/uno_packages Linked to/etc/openoffice/uno_packages into /usr/lib/openoffice/share copied zip into /etc/openoffice/uno_packages ran /usr/lib/openoffice/program/pkgchkhk -s uno_packages should be in /var if outside /usr/lib/openoffice/share. Bug#293176: Setting system wide defaults.
Package: openoffice.org Version: 1.1.2dfsg1-3 Severity: wishlist I need the ability to set system wide defaults. Currently set things like default fonts, data sources and autosave. I suspect others with an enterprise environment would find this useful. I have tried a couple things over the years but nothing has been 100% satisfactory. Current I'm running rh7.3 with a generic openoffice 1.1.0. I'm switching to debian sarge and want to use the the debian packages. What I currently do is to edit the xml files /usr/local/OpenOffice.org1.1.0/share Can get away with this because I have complete control over the installation. I'm sure I could so the same with in /usr/lib/openoffice/share but I assume my changes would be killed with every update as I doubt it is anticipated that these files will be edited. If charges are checked for, that may be a possibility, but really do not like config files in /usr As far as I can see openoffice merges the configurations from /usr/lib/openoffice/share with the users personal install user/ files. A really nice solution would be to merge in configs from /etc/openoffice. Another method that I have done is to add a hook in the install part of openoffice startup program to copy in additional configuration data into the personal install. I need some sort of solution very soon. Is there something in place that I'm not aware of? Any plans? I need to do it anyway I can contribute what I do. Appreciate any comments or suggestions on the best way to proceed. John -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
