What's happening is that libdockapp essentially forces apps using it to render to the icon window. This is the same with the libdockapp examples, so I don't think wmacpi is misusing the library. The window maker dock seems to display things fine whether it's displaying to the icon window or the app window, but most other window managers will only display the icon window when the app is iconified - this is why iconifying wmacpi under twm causes it to work. The WM dock displays things happily either way (try running wmifs under twm - it works exactly as expected, so it must be drawing to the main window), so I'm not sure why libdockapp is doing it this way . . . Sadly, my X11-fu is insufficient to modify libdockapp to switch the drawing around, so I can't change it to test. However, I'm fairly confident this is the problem. I guess this should be handed off to the libdockapp maintainer. I'm agree with you. Bug#293546: wmacpi just display a black box
I probably should have waited a bit before sending my last message, because I've two new observations: On Tue, Feb 08, 2005 at 11:20:34PM -0700, waoki wrote: [snip] > When run on its own, wmacpi displays only a black window. Deiconifying it returns to the black window. I've just downloaded and tested old versions of the upstream source, and while 1.99r6 works fine, 1.99r7, the first version to use libdockapp, displays a black window except when iconified. I did a quick search for other Debian packages which require libdockapp2, and from the limited selection chose, installed & tested wmusic. I see exactly the same behavior with wmusic as I do with wmacpi: I get a black window except when iconfied. I therefore think that bugs #280495 and #293546 result from a problem in libdockapp2, not in wmacpi. (It's also possible that wmacpi and wmusic are both using libdockapp incorrectly. I don't know enough about libdockapp to determine this, and I don't have any other programs which use it to try.) The wmusic package appears to have had a black-window problem once before - see bug #89516. -- William Aoki KD7YAF [EMAIL PROTECTED]/"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign \ / No HTML in mail or news! Bug#293546: wmacpi just display a black box
I'm now seeing #293546 after upgrading from wmacpi 2.0-1 to 2.1-1. The only other change to my system was the addition of libdockapp2 0.5.0-1.1. I normally run wmacpi swallowed by FVWM's FvwmButtons module. Run this way, wmacpi only shows a black box. When I run wmacpi on its own, I observe the following symptoms, which are almost the same as those of bug #280495: When run on its own, wmacpi displays only a black window. (With 2.0-1, I observed the stuck display symptom of #280495.) When I iconfiy it, its icon displays the normal battery status display, with proper animation and status updates. Deiconifying it returns to the black window. I believe that #280495 and #293546 are the same bug, changed slightly between releases. -- William Aoki KD7YAF [EMAIL PROTECTED]/"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign \ / No HTML in mail or news!
