From my side can be closed ;-)
All 2.6.12 variants do compile with gcc-3.4 and 4.01.

gcc (GCC) 3.4.4 20050305 (prerelease) (Debian 3.4.3-11)
gives the same error :(

Using gcc-3.3 (GCC) 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8) compiles well.
