 Hi,

I just tried to reconfigure ClamAV to enable syslog-logging and disable
 file-logging. Enabling syslog-logging worked like a charm.
On the other hand, while the debconf message explains that an empty
answer to the clamav-base/LogFile will lead to disabling file-logging,
it does not work, as the config script immediately resets the template
 to the default /var/log/clamav/clamav.log value.
 This is rather confusing.

Fortunately, as you are using ucf, I can nuke the corresponding line in
/etc/clamscan/clamd.conf, and it won't come back.

Yes, I just took a look at the configure script, and you are absolutely
correct. I think what happened is someone complained that they just hit
enter on the question, thinking they would get the default, and as a
result got no logfile. So, I added a test for a null input, giving the
default in that case, without updating the template. Dammit.

OK, well I can easily make a new rule that allows for entering 'none' to
give you no logfile, and then update the templates, but that means
asking all the translators to update their translations while we are in
a freeze, and they are very busy with other stuff right now.

Well, I will see what I can do.

Thanks for reporting,

Hmmm, I did not read your scripts thoroughly, but I don't understand how
such a problem can happen, since the default value for the template is
/var/log/clamav/clamav.log.

No problem. And thanks for your fast answer.

Cheers,
