Bug#317756: Framebuffer settings

Well, at least we have a workaround.

Are such kernel args actually documented anywhere?

Only in the module source, I'm afraid. You can do something like

grep -i module_par drivers/video/aty/atyfb_base.c

to see all the the options supported by the atyfb driver and their (very
short) descriptions.

 To test whether the problems you are
 experiencing are due to the wrong MCLK value, you can try setting it
 by adding a kernel boot argument

 video=atyfb:mclk=100

The framebuffer output is similar, just in bigger characters (fewer
lines per screen).

 since that worked for 2.6.8. You can also try disabling framebuffer in
 console completely by adding the boot arguments

 video=atyfb:off vga=normal

That does get me the pointer under X. When X shuts down, it leaves
traces of the desktop around a shrunken version of the console in the
middle of the display; I don't know if that's expected.

Bug#317756: Framebuffer settings

2005-07-20 Thread Jurij Smakov

Hi Dave,

I've tried to look at the diff between 2.6.8 and 2.6.11/12 atyfb driver,
and it's pretty huge, so I wasn't able to get any useful information that
way. To test whether the problems you are experiencing are due to the
wrong MCLK value, you can try setting it by adding a kernel boot argument

video=atyfb:mclk=100

since that worked for 2.6.8. You can also try disabling framebuffer in
console completely by adding the boot arguments

video=atyfb:off vga=normal

Please try these options and send the followup to the bug.

Thanks and best regards,
