Comments/Problems:

I have tried the sarge install but was unable to detect the network card so i
swap to netinstall testing.
HD create troubles, debian was unable to identify the disk saing that there
wasn't one. Selecting the source of the netinstall there was a discrepancy btw
the menu reporting stable test unstable and the script because debbootstrap was
unable to find on the server (all italians) the testing stable unstable, seems
to works if from shell i gave the command with etch, sarge or sid.
I have used debian since a long time and installed it on several computers, the
only problem I had was with my new laptop. THe only distro that
has been able to identify my hardware is Mandriva Limited Edition 2005, HD
detected with succes, bluetooth and other stuffs.
lspci's output cames from mandriva LE05

I hope this report would be usefult to inprove the installer.

Are there any SATA configuration options in the BIOS?

Most likely it is a matter of 2.6.8/2.4.27 not supporting your SATA
chipset or at least not in the default configuration.

You might have better luck with booting the installer with 'linux26' to
pick the 2.6.8 kernel if you didn't try that already, although a number
of people have not been able to get any intel AHCI SATA controllers to
work with anything

Do you know what module should be loaded for your harddisk?
Can you try loading the module manually by switching to VT2 (alt-F2) and
using modprobe?

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean here. Could you rephrase?

Cheers,

Note that a daily build of the installer was used. That means the 2.6.11
kernel and makes this comment irrelevant.

Not now, I'll do as soon as possible.
When I'll be able, I'll send the list of modules loaded from Mandriva
LE2005.

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean here. Could you rephrase?
OK, net install lets you choose what kind of distro you want install and
the server. Selecting one of the option stable, testing, unstable the
installer was unable to retrive the packages saing something about
discrepancy in debdootstrap' scripts. I saw that in script directory
there was only scrpt named sarge, etch, sid not stable testing unstable.
Makes sense?
