Bug#323413:
reopen 323413 thanks On Sun, Sep 25, 2005 at 10:34:29PM +0200, Bastian Blank wrote: The interface don't change since ages and the given message shows up, if the dm module is not loaded. So I don't see this as a bug, as you don't I agree that this is not a bug in the package, BUT you didn't care to mention this in the bug report. I did check for help there first. So how should I know? showed the relevant part of the output: First of all I didn't report the bug, just in case you didn't notice. All I did was give you the information you asked for in the bug report, namely the kernel version. | /proc/misc: No entry for device-mapper found | Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel? | Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver. | Incompatible libdevmapper 1.01.04 (2005-08-02)(compat) and kernel driver I did not get this message. I only got that one line that was mentioned in the original bug report. If Noel, who reported the bug, or anyone else, whould have run something else to get this message, how about telling them? Finally one last question, how come it worked with the old version. I never loaded the dm module by hand, but still it works with sarge, but not in etch or sid. I would say it might have to do with you removing the init script that used to modprobe dm_mod, don't you think? Bug#323413:
severity 323413 grave thanks I was just hit by the very same bug because your downgrade allowed the buggy package to enter testing. After upgrading my etch machine I wasn't able to use cryptsetup anymore. This machines runs the 2.6.12 kernel from etch: linux-image-2.6.12-1-k7 version 2.6.12-6. After finding this problem I tried on my sid machine that has the 2.6.12 kernel from sid (2.6.12-7) to no avail. Goign back to the sarge version of libdevmapper fixed my problem. A bug like this shouldn't make it into testing, please be careful with a downgrade of severity. Bug#323413: libdevmapper1.01: Same error on 2.6.13
Package: libdevmapper1.01 Version: 2:1.01.04-2 Followup-For: Bug #323413 Hello, I have the same error on a 2.6.13 but this is due to the fact that devfs has been dropped : initrd configuration relies on devfs and I use cryptsetup in an initrd. Therefore, libdevmapper is unable to find /dev/mapper. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.10-zoro.2 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages libdevmapper1.01 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.5-6GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libselinux1 1.26-1 SELinux shared libraries libdevmapper1.01 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#323413: bug in sarge too
I got the same error on a clean installation of sarge using the debian default kernel 2.6.8-2-386. I can use cryptsetup create without any problems on a shell, but inside an initrd.img it fails with the Incompatible libdevmapper message. -- kiu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
