Bug#325187: texlive: missing aliases file (was: tetex-base: Missing aliases for documentation)
Hi Frank! On Don, 11 Jan 2007, Frank Küster wrote: In TeXlive, there is no alias file at all. Is there a reason for that - I think the idea is quite nice. No idea. What programs do support these aliases? All of the TL suite? Would be surprising ... Honestly, I have no idea. No idea. What programs do support these aliases? All of the TL suite? Would be surprising ... Of course, it's a kpathsea feature: , kpathsea.info | 3.4 Filename database (`ls-R') | == | | [...] | A second database file `aliases' allows you to give additional names | to the files listed in `ls-R'. This can be helpful to adapt to 8.3 | filename conventions in source files. | | The `ls-R' and `aliases' features are implemented in the source file | `kpathsea/db.c'. ` I'll ask on the TeX Live list. I think someone once said aliases are a bad idea, but I do not agree... Regards, Frank P.S. as for the mail thing, I hoped you would do it because you understand a bit what's going on on the Launchpad side. I only can say they want to send us a confirmation e-mail. But that is probably enough, I'll try to contact the Debian listmasters. Regards, Frank -- Dr. Frank Küster Single Molecule Spectroscopy, Protein Folding @ Inst. f. Biochemie, Univ. In that case it would be supported by all applications that use kpathsea. cheerio ralf

Hi all, Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: tetex-base Version: 3.0-7 Severity: minor As discussed this week on debian-tetex-maint, - currently aliases don't work because the documentation files are gzip'ed - a lot of packages could use new aliases. Some of them are: - all the packages in psnfss, to psnfss2e.pdf.gz - pxfonts to pxfontsdocA4.pdf.gz - to be continued. In TeXlive, there is no alias file at all. Is there a reason for that - I think the idea is quite nice. Regards, Frank -- Dr. Frank Küster Single Molecule Spectroscopy, Protein Folding @ Inst. f. Biochemie, Univ.
