Bug#327512: debian testing

2005-09-28 Thread Robert Wildenrath
I allways use ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/|
As I remember, the bootprocess stopped before the questions for the
bootloader. I suppos I made mistaks during installation of the xserver.
Last installations startet correctly. I allways have to reconfigure the
xserver, I do not like the default settings.

Between I found one failure in most of my systems: My SCSI lines where not
properly terminated. I do not think that that was the reason of breaking the
bootprocess with kernel 2.6. , with 2.4. everything run fine.

Best greetings
robert

Comments/Problems: Booting from CD (Disc1) worked well.
Installing kernel 2.6 stopped during the installing process killing the
system. I tried few times and could not get any errormessages. PC dead.

I assume this was 2.6.12? That is not good as 2.6.12/13 will probably the
next stable kernel. At what stage of the installation did it fail
 exactly?
We may be able to get needed info from the system if you're willing to
 spend some time on it.

Installing kernel 2.4 run easy and fine.

 Good.

The installation finished in text-mode. I had to run `dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg`, no problem. I will be happy to send you any helpfull
  data.

Did you make a mistake during the configuration the first time?

 Cheers,
 FJP

That still does not tell us which image you used. That mirror has a lot of
them... I would guess you used an official Sarge (3.1r0a) full CD though
and thus a 2.6.8 kernel.

Could you try with a daily build (using a 2.6.12 kernel) from:
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ ?

Could you tell us what exact version of the installer you used? It isn't
clear from your report.
If possible, please give the full URL you used to download the CD image.
