Bug#329346: cupsys-driver-gutenprint: Lexmark Z45 stopped working after switching to gutenprint
Alberto Gonzalez Iniesta [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Package: cupsys-driver-gutenprint Version: 4.3.99+cvs20050901-1 Severity: important After my last dist-upgrade, cupsys-driver-gimpprint-data was replaced by cupsys-driver-gutenprint. That changed didn't affect my Laserjet 4 printer (still working) but my shitty Lexmark Z45 is no longer working at all. It just spits blank pages. I tried runing cups with LogLevel debug but no errors were found. I also tried with different Lexmark drivers, all without success. Please could you try your Lexmark Z45 with the new release of Gutenprint. This new release (in unstable, version 4.3.99+cvs20060521-2) fixed a number of problems, so I would appreciate it if you could give it a try. It was just paperweight, not being able to use it on Debian. So I bought a new (shitty) one for the price of a new ink cartridge... I guess I could have kept it a while, but too many old HW lays around at home already. I'm attaching access_log and error_log with LogLevel debug. From the addition of the printer to the Test Page request. The result was a *completely* blank page. Thanks. If you look at the very end of the error_log, you'll see that only 60 bytes were sent: not very much at all, even though it spent over 20 seconds processing the job. Unfortunately, the start of the job wasn't logged, and that might have had some useful information. You might need to raise the MaxLogSize to e.g. 10 MiB. It looks like a driver bug, so I'll have to see what upstream can do about it. Sorry Roger, didn't notice the log was truncated. Here's the complete one (or so I hope). Checking both gimp-print 4.2.7 and the current gutenprint releases, neither have support for the Z45 model. Which driver/model were you using with gimp-print? Which driver/model are you using with Gutenprint? I was using Z43 with no ppd hacking at all. Default options. I tried suppling the older ppd (changing version numbers so that Gutenprint won't complain) to cups, but all I get is: E [22/Sep/2005:12:13:26 +0200] PID 2857 stopped with status 22! And the debug output wasn't helpful at all. Yes, the old PPD will not work with the new version. If you create a new print queue from scratch, and choose Lexmark Z43 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0-rc1, can you print a test page successfully? With LogLevel set to debug, what is logged when you try to print the test page? Hi Roger, Thanks for looking into this. I'm attaching access_log and error_log with LogLevel debug. Long holidays ;) cupsys-driver-gutenprint replaced cupsys-driver-gimpprint over two months ago. Did you do a complete upgrade, so your system is 100% up-to-date? Yep, 100% updated.
