Hi Barry,

unfortunately gabber2 is not stable enough and is really missing a lot
of features when compared to gabber1. We have even removed it from
Debian.

There are many options for GNOME Jabber clients currently (eg. gajim,
gossip and pidgin) so, unless someone really wants to have gabber2 back
into Debian (and to assume its upstream maintainership), that's the way
to go.

Sources for the last uploaded packages of jabberoo and gabber2 are
available at http://people.debian.org/~goedson/gabber/ if someone wants
to bring it to life again.

Best regards,

Hi,

Is gabber2 stable enough yet? I don't know that there's a choice with
the pending removal of gnome1 libs?

Thanks,

I would really like to be able to do this right now. But as it is now,
gabber 2 still can't replace gabber 1. Gabber 2 is not stable enough
for a release and still lack many features from Gabber 1. I'm
currently working o stabilizing the current code base in order to
start adding the missing features. Until we finish this task, we'll
have to continue having two versions of gabber in the archive.

Package: gabber
Severity: wishlist

OK, so after filing the last bug (about the C++ transition) I realized that
gabber 2 has already been uploaded and is in pretty good shape. :-)

Gabber 1 isn't.

Rather than messing around with making it undergo the g++-4.0 transition,
dealing with all its bugs, etc., I suggest removing it from Debian, replacing
it with a dummy package depending on gabber2 (or vice versa, but either way
leaving only one gabber package). Is gabber2 stable enough to do this yet?
Is there some reason not to?
