Bug#336774: Info received (Bug#336774: xserver-xorg: X hangs randomly)
Finally I got around to re-enabling DPMS and managed to reproduce the problem. Currently the monitor is stuck in power-saving mode and no amount of banging the keyboard or wiggling the mouse is waking it, but I can still SSH to the machine and "do stuff". I got a backtrace: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# gdb --pid 12103 GNU gdb 6.4-debian Copyright 2005 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Bug#336774: xserver-xorg: X hangs randomly
I believe I am experiencing a similar problem with Ubuntu Dapper and an Aladdin TNT2 card (on-board) with the "nv" Driver of Xorg. It only seems to happen for me when DPMS is enabled -- disabling DPMS causes the problem to go away, but the monitor never goes into power-saving mode, just sits there with a black screen. When it does happen, hitting the keyboard and moving the mouse don't wake the monitor. For a certain amount of time, I'm still able to SSH into the machine, so I may be able to get the logs and a gdb bt. I have DPMS disabled now, so the problem won't manifest itself, but I'll post my xorg.conf now, and Xorg.0.log and a gdb bt later if I can grab them.
