All build deps are satisfied. I think it is something that is present on your system, but not normally. I can reproduce the error on a newly installed system (base only) with only automake1.7 and pango builddeps installed [1]. I've attached a full log; maybe you can deduct it from there. I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with this. #d-devel was very helpful getting me this far. > Timestamp skews? Checked 1.10 too and you are correct, that version does not have the problem. Cheers, Frans [1] Had just done an installation test, so had a clean system "lying around" ;-) pango1.0.log.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data pgpAB3pZ5eYRM.pgp Description: PGP signature

I see no reason why "./configure" would fail on your system if you didn't run autoconf. > Apparently the presence of automake1.7 causes configure or aclocal.m4 or > some such to be regenerated incorrectly. I can't reproduce that. Or perhaps it is regenerated and I don't have another problem which is only visible on your host (missing m4 macro, missing package...)? Timestamp skews? Please try diagnosing further, or try with 1.10, which doesn't seem to suffer from this. -- Loïc Minier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> "What do we want? BRAINS!When do we want it? BRAINS!"
Bug#341132: pango1.0: FTBFS if automake1-7 installed
Package: pango1.0 Severity: important I have not set higher priority as this problem does not occur on the buildds, but it still is strange for a build to fail when a particular version of automake is installed. The failure occurs while building pango-1.8.2-static: ./configure: line 22554: syntax error near unexpected token `1.0' ./configure: line 22554: `GTK_DOC_CHECK(1.0)' Apparently the presence of automake1.7 causes configure or aclocal.m4 or some such to be regenerated incorrectly. On the buildds the error does not occur as automake1.7 is not installed. Instead the following warnings can be seen in buildd logs, which is missing in my build log. /usr/bin/make -C build-tree/pango-1.8.2-static [...] WARNING: `aclocal-1.7' is missing on your system. [...] WARNING: `automake-1.7' is missing on your system. The workaround is of course to purge automake1.7. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-16.0508-2 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) pgpAiFgEh9D74.pgp Description: PGP signature
