jonas, you are clearly blind to the problem in trying to justifying yourself.

The fact that it is not even built on powerpc, is proof enough that there is
no way that this module should be *NEEDED* in the ramdisk, as it works just
fine without it. And this fact will not change with any number of random
configurations you might or not build, so please fix this bug and be done with
it.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this issue.

I am unsure if this is the right approach to the problem, so is
awaiting comment from upstream.

Jonas, ...

As i told you in person, i don't suppose this is the right approach, the fix
is really trivial, and i don't see any way (sane or otherwise) it could break
something.

The ide-generic module is not built on powerpc, so clearly it is not needed on
top of via-ide, so making the line conditional on powerpc which adds
ide-generic cannot break anything as you fear.

Please include the patch to fix the issue, and in the unlikely case that
upstreams has something negative to say about this fix, you can revert it.

The other alternative is to remove the patch which caused the bug in the first
place, as it is a much better candidate for a wrong-and-hacky fix, and Erik
even said so if i remember well.

Friendly,

Sven Luther
